00:00The idea was can we get into the found footage space with Shelby Oaks in a way that I haven't
00:06really seen done before.
00:15I love found footage, I always have the last broadcast, Blair Witch of course, Lake Mungo, Wreck.
00:21I think what it allows filmmakers is pretty obvious in that you're encouraged to be unrefined in that way.
00:27In fact, the more grainy and out of focus and soft everything is, the better, because it feels more real.
00:34Like when we shot our scenes in the film that are found footage, we used a real camcorder from that
00:39era, we shot on mini-DV.
00:41I even edited them on my old iMac from 2007. I wanted everything to feel authentic.
00:53I wanted it to feel very personal, where we can also have traditional narrative filmmaking side-by-side with found
00:59footage,
00:59so you can get the best of both worlds. And for me as a filmmaker, it was selfish where I
01:04got to play around in the found footage area,
01:05but I also got to do really grand sweeping wide shots for the big screen.
