00:00Two weeks in, and a glove could crack the case.
00:04Found near Nancy Guthrie's home, DNA inside.
00:07Now the question, does it match the masked man on that doorbell camera?
00:12Plus, homeland security goes dark, funding frozen, lawmakers gone.
00:17TSA, FEMA, the Coast Guard, caught in the middle, and no deal in sight.
00:21And the U.S. and Iran talk this week, quietly, indirectly.
00:26Diplomacy or escalation?
00:28And behind the scenes, Israel weighs its next move.
00:34The stories that matter, clear and credible, from across the country to around the world.
00:40These are your unbiased updates from Straight Arrow News.
00:45Good morning, I'm Craig DeGrelly.
00:47The search for Nancy Guthrie is now entering its third week,
00:50and investigators say a key piece of evidence may be emerging.
00:54The FBI tells Straight Arrow News a black glove found about two miles from her Tucson home contains DNA
01:01and appears to match the gloves worn by the masked suspect seen on her doorbell camera the night the 84
01:09-year-old vanished.
01:10Agents say investigators recovered roughly 16 gloves as they scoured the area,
01:16most belonging to search crews.
01:17But one, they say, is different.
01:20Preliminary DNA results came back over the weekend.
01:23Final confirmation is pending before the profile is entered into the national database.
01:29Authorities still have not named a suspect.
01:31The FBI previously described the masked man as about 5'9 to 5'10,
01:36average billed wearing dark clothing, black gloves, and carrying an Ozark Trail backpack.
01:42Late Friday, deputies shut down a nearby road,
01:45swarming a gray Range Rover in a restaurant parking lot before towing it away.
01:51No arrests were made.
01:52Outside Guthrie's home, law enforcement remains present as neighbors continue leaving yellow flowers,
01:59calling for her safe return.
02:00Last night, her daughter, Today Show co-host Savannah Guthrie, posted a new video message.
02:07And I wanted to say to whoever has her or knows where she is
02:21that it's never too late.
02:26And you're not lost or alone.
02:33And it is never too late to do the right thing.
02:36The FBI has increased the reward to $100,000 for information leading to her location or an arrest.
02:44The Department of Homeland Security is shut down this morning,
02:48with Congress in recess until next Monday.
02:50The stalemate could last at least a week.
02:53The Trump administration's immigration enforcement operations will continue.
02:58ICE has separate funding coming from last summer's One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
03:03But the department's independent watchdog says the funding lapse could delay active investigations.
03:09The inspector general is currently reviewing eight cases,
03:12including the use of facial recognition technology
03:15and allegations of excessive force by ICE agents, according to Politico.
03:19Experts say most Americans won't feel the impact right away,
03:23though prolonged disruptions could eventually affect services like air travel.
03:28Meanwhile, Democrats are holding firm on demands for changes at ICE and Customs and Border Protection,
03:34following the deadly officer-involved shootings of two American citizens in Minneapolis.
03:39One sticking point?
03:40Whether agents should be allowed to wear masks during operations.
03:44Border czar Tom Holman says he's not a fan of the masks, but defends them.
03:50Look, you know, I don't like the masks either.
03:52But because threats against ICE officers, you know, are up over 1,500 percent, actual assaults.
03:58And threats are up over 8,000 percent.
04:01These men wouldn't have to protect themselves.
04:03As far as identifying themselves, they all have placards identifying themselves as ICE, E-R-O, H-S-I, D
04:09-E-A, FBI.
04:10So they all have placards on them.
04:12So I'll let the White House and members of Congress, you know, fight that out.
04:18Democrats are also pushing for body cameras, judicial warrants before entering private property,
04:24and an end to racial profiling, which Holman says is not occurring.
04:28House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries says Democrats are not backing down.
04:33Well, we're willing to have a good-faith conversation about everything,
04:36but fundamentally we need change that is dramatic, that is bold, that is meaningful, and that is transformational.
04:42And these are common-sense things.
04:44As for Minneapolis, Holman says more than 1,000 immigration agents have left Minnesota
04:50since Operation Metro Surge ended last week, with more expected to follow.
04:55He says a small security force will remain in Minnesota.
04:59Two ICE officers could face charges after new video evidence appears to contradict their testimony
05:06about a Minneapolis shooting involving a Venezuelan immigrant.
05:10Protests broke out almost immediately after the shooting last month, which was not deadly.
05:15At the time, the officers said two other immigrants attacked them with a broom and shovel
05:20as they tried to make an arrest, and that the shooting was self-defense.
05:23Now, ICE acting director Todd Lyons says a joint ICE and Justice Department review
05:29found newly discovered evidence that contradicts their account.
05:33He says both officers were immediately placed on administrative leave,
05:37while a more thorough investigation moves forward.
05:39Meanwhile, the U.S. government has dropped charges against the two men
05:43who were accused of attacking the agents.
05:45This week could shape what happens next with Iran.
05:49Iran's top diplomat has arrived in Geneva this morning for another round of indirect talks
05:55with the United States, focused on Tehran's nuclear program.
05:59Over the weekend in Slovakia, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that for now, diplomacy is the goal.
06:06We are focused on negotiations.
06:08That's what we're for.
06:09The president's made that clear.
06:10If that changes, it'll be obvious to everyone,
06:13and obviously whatever the law requires us to do, we'll do.
06:15The U.S. delegation, including Envoy Steve Witkoff,
06:20is expected to meet through Omani mediators on Tuesday, as they did earlier this month.
06:26Iran has signaled it's willing to curb some enrichment of uranium,
06:30but not eliminate it entirely.
06:33That's still the sticking point.
06:35At the same time, the military pressure is unmistakable.
06:38The Pentagon has moved a second aircraft carrier into the region.
06:42CBS News reports President Trump has signed off on Israel targeting Iran's ballistic missile program
06:49if negotiations collapse, including potential U.S. support like aerial refueling.
06:55Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday he's skeptical of any deal,
07:00even though Trump, he says, told him he's still optimistic.
07:03I will not hide from you that I've expressed my skepticism of any deal with Iran,
07:11because, frankly, Iran is reliable on one thing.
07:15They lie.
07:16And they cheat.
07:18Netanyahu says any agreement must also dismantle Iran's nuclear program
07:23and remove enriched material from the country,
07:26conditions Tehran has historically rejected.
07:29So the posture this week is clear.
07:31Talks in Geneva, military leverage in the region,
07:35and a narrow window to see whether diplomacy holds.
07:38Israel's cabinet has approved a new land registration process in the occupied West Bank.
07:44The government calls it an administrative fix,
07:47but Palestinian officials and settlement watchdogs call it de facto annexation.
07:53The policy focuses on Area C, about 60 percent of the West Bank,
07:58which remains under full Israeli military control.
08:02Under the new rules, anyone claiming private land ownership must submit formal documentation
08:07or risk having the area automatically registered as Israeli state land.
08:13Israeli officials say the move is about order and security,
08:16and describe it as a response to what they call illegal land registration efforts
08:21by the Palestinian Authority.
08:24Palestinian leaders say it will entrench settlement expansion
08:27and permanently shift control of disputed territory.
08:31The Israeli anti-settlement group Peace Now warns the ownership requirements could be draconian.
08:37Its settlement watch director told the AP Israel could take over as much as 83 percent of Area C.
08:44Separately, Axios reports, the White House is preparing a meeting this week
08:48for a Gaza Board of Peace aimed at advancing the next phase of the ceasefire
08:53and raising reconstruction funds.
08:55Finally this morning, a piece of Great Lakes history resurfaces.
08:59A shipwreck team has announced the discovery of the Lac-Lebel,
09:03a luxury steamer that sank in Lake Michigan more than 150 years ago.
09:09Listen to this.
09:09The 217-foot passenger steamer ran between Cleveland and Lake Superior in the mid-to-late 1800s.
09:17In October of 1872, the steamer, with 53 passengers on board, set out from Milwaukee, then sprang a leak.
09:25The captain tried to turn back, but rough weather and heavy waves overtook the vessel.
09:31The Lac-Lebel sank.
09:33Eight people died after escaping into a lifeboat.
09:36Fast forward to 2022.
09:38Shipwreck hunter Paul Ehren says a commercial fisherman tipped him off
09:43after snagging something on the lake floor that didn't belong.
09:47Ehren and his team followed the lead and found the wreck about 20 miles offshore
09:52between Racine and Kenosha, Wisconsin.
09:55The upper cabin is gone, but the hull remains largely intact,
10:00with much of the interior preserved.
10:02The discovery was kept quiet until a dive team could create a 3-D model of the site, completed last
10:09summer.
10:09And here's the stunning part.
10:11The University of Wisconsin Water Library estimates there may be between 6,000 and 10,000
10:19undiscovered shipwrecks across the Great Lakes.
10:22That number is amazing.
10:24I mean, who knew, right?
10:26All right, there's a lot of news out there.
10:27We sort through the chaos to get you the good stuff.
