00:00When creating and levelling up your character, particularly in an RPG, you'll be wanting to give them the best stats
00:07possible.
00:08Maybe that's a focus on damage dealing, stealth, just something that's going to make them exceptional.
00:13But sometimes the path to becoming exceptional is not quite so straightforward.
00:18Looks can often be deceiving, as some skills may appear useless when you get them,
00:23offering nothing beyond a cosmetic change or a weak ability,
00:25but in reality, they might possess a hidden use that makes them well worth the investment.
00:31So, these video game abilities may look weak on the surface, but they are secretly packing one hell of a
00:36punch.
00:37I'm Jules, this is WhatCulture.com, and these are 10 useless video game abilities that are secretly deadly.
00:43Oh, hey, actually, just before we start here, you're going to notice something a little bit different about this list.
00:49And that's mainly the fact that Jess is also...
00:51Hello!
00:52It turns out that there was a bit of a miscommunication over who was actually going to be recording this
00:55one,
00:55so we both went ahead and did it.
00:57So you get two presented for the price of one.
01:00And that price is zero, by the way, unless you subscribe and join and do all the other stuff as
01:03well,
01:03so consider yourself lucky, I guess.
01:06Well, at least it'd be 50% better now that Jess is in it.
01:09Anyway, enjoy.
01:10Nurgle's Foul Stink, Total War Warhammer 3.
01:13Composing your army in Total War Warhammer 3 can be a pretty daunting task.
01:18You've got hundreds of different units to choose from, and each one can seem deadly in its own different way.
01:23But if you're playing as the Beastmen faction, the greatest weapon in your arsenal is actually a bunch of really
01:29stinky cow people.
01:30One of the unique traits that the heroes and lords of the Beastmen factions can gain is Nurgle's Foul Stink.
01:37The trait allows them to slightly lower the enemy army's leadership in combat,
01:41which on its own doesn't really sound that useful.
01:43But the thing that makes this deceptively minor debuff, as strong as it is, is that it stacks.
01:49Meaning if you create an army consisting of only very stinky heroes,
01:54their combined stench will lower any army's leadership below zero.
01:58Then all you have to do is kill a few of the hostile units to immediately cause the rest to
02:03flee.
02:04Even the mightiest of forces will run away from your bovine stink,
02:08so if you don't feel like strategizing or getting particularly good at the game and want an easy win,
02:13just make sure you pick really smelly leaders and you are good to go.
02:16Now we're talking about Mortal Legend from Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous.
02:20Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous is an RPG based off of the tabletop game of the same name.
02:26Well, it wasn't going to be Cluedo, was it?
02:28The game's most prominent mechanic is Mythic Parts,
02:31which allows your character to gain the powers of a demigod.
02:33You can gain the abilities of devils, angels, liches and more,
02:37becoming far more powerful than regular heroes.
02:40This being said, late into the game you may choose to reject your superhuman powers
02:44to instead become a Mortal Legend.
02:47Now doing so will take away all of your Mythic abilities in exchange for raising your level cap,
02:52which kinda sounds worthless, but is secretly the best way to break the game.
02:57While spawning hordes of the undead or smiting foes with the powers of heaven itself sounds pretty cool,
03:02the raised level cap is actually far more fun,
03:04as it doubles the number of levels you can have from 20 to 40,
03:08meaning that you can boost your stats to the point where even level 20 enemies
03:11will feel as if they're level 1 to you.
03:14Your Legend character will deal damage in the thousands,
03:17and have so much HP that even the strongest bosses will only take away a tiny fraction of that health
03:23bar.
03:23Who needs divinity when you can simply break the game and become god itself?
03:28By not being a god.
03:30You know what I mean.
03:31Swords and Sandals.
03:32Swords and Sandals is an old but classic Flash game about fictional gladiators.
03:37Although its original version has been lost with Flash's demise,
03:40you can still play the Steam version,
03:42and if you do, you're gonna want to try out this strategy.
03:46Leveling up your gladiator correctly in Swords and Sandals can often feel kind of intimidating,
03:51as you don't have a lot of time between new matches,
03:54and you need to raise a lot of stats simultaneously to have a chance at surviving the tournaments.
03:59That is, unless you just dump all your points into Charisma.
04:03While most people would tell you that creating the perfect gladiator requires a balance of strength,
04:08stamina, and top-shelf gear, Charisma can secretly obliterate your enemies on its own.
04:14Charisma makes your shout actions in the arena more successful,
04:17and while that might sound like it's not that useful,
04:20in reality, high Charisma shouting has a high chance of dealing large amounts of damage to your opponent
04:25or making them immediately forfeit the duel.
04:29You can use Swords and Shields, absolutely,
04:31but if you want to, you can just yell at your opponent enough that they just decide they don't want
04:36to fight you
04:37because it's too hard and you're too tough.
04:39You're too charismatic.
04:40They don't want to take you on and you win.
04:42Okay, it's time to repair some toasters in Wasteland 3.
04:45Wasteland 3 is a post-apocalyptic RPG filled with psychotic raiders and mutated monsters,
04:50and so, as such, it makes sense to give your characters the necessary skills for survival.
04:55Now, most people assume that that means just making them more proficient with, like, guns and melee weapons.
05:00However, true fans of the series know that the deadliest of all things lies inside broken toasters.
05:05Toaster repair is a skill in Wasteland 3 that very obviously sticks out from the rest of the more survival
05:11-related talents.
05:12However, despite it doing exactly what it says,
05:15giving you the ability to repair one of the most basic appliances in your kitchen,
05:18the world of Wasteland is actually full of bread burners with ridiculously powerful items just hidden inside.
05:25Every toaster that you repair comes with a secret prize,
05:28some of which are simple things like money,
05:30and some of which are unique weird science weapons like the Argon Lance,
05:34which can immediately vaporize your enemies,
05:37or a blueprint for the Tarthrower launcher that can burn hostiles for thousands of damage.
05:43How any of these items fit inside the appliance is anyone's guess,
05:46but I guess that's why they were broken in the first place.
05:49All you need to know is how to repair toasters, so pick up that skill.
05:54Waterwalking.
05:54World of Warcraft.
05:55Each class in World of Warcraft comes with a set of unique abilities that range from deadly to absolutely gimmicky.
06:02In terms of the Shaman class,
06:04the spell Waterwalking might seem like it belongs to the latter category,
06:08but with the right preparation and tactics,
06:11it can become your greatest weapon against a horde of enemies and nasty gankers trying to kill you in the
06:16wild.
06:16As you might expect, Waterwalking is a utility spell that allows you to walk on water.
06:22It lets you walk on water for 10 minutes at a time.
06:24While at first glance that appears to be nothing but a party trick that you can use to impress your
06:28friends
06:29with your overly accurate Jesus impression,
06:31in reality, the skill can turn you into the apex predator of every pool of water in the game.
06:38Since swimming underwater is incredibly slow and takes away your ability to cast certain spells,
06:43not to mention the breathable air limit,
06:46when you can fight submerged enemies while walking on the surface,
06:49you basically become invincible and significantly stronger than your opponents.
06:53Knowing this, you can also lure land creatures and players into bodies of water
06:58and you'll have your full suite of combat abilities while they're just flailing about underwater.
07:03As you can imagine, you'll probably come out on top then.
07:06Let's talk about Campfire Making from Valheim.
07:08So Valheim is a Viking-themed survival game in which you take on powerful mythical monsters
07:13to prove your warrior skills to the Norse gods.
07:16Now the game offers you a variety of different weapons and combat skills in order to do this,
07:21but if you're taking on the first two bosses,
07:23then the only ability that you really need is how to make campfires.
07:27Yeah, you see, the fastest way to kill the two starting bosses in the game
07:30is by placing campfires and letting them burn themselves to death by stepping on them.
07:33To make this exploit work, you first need to gather enough wood and stone
07:36to be able to build four walls and a handful of campfires.
07:39The trick is to quickly build the walls and campfires around the spot where the bosses spawn
07:43so that they become trapped inside and constantly burn themselves on the fire
07:46as they try to escape the walls.
07:48Now the timing here can be tricky as you only have like a few seconds to localize the spawn point
07:53and build the trap after activating the boss's altar,
07:56but learning this skill is definitely worth the effort
07:59as the campfires can kill both starter bosses in less than a minute,
08:03making them the fastest and most resource-sufficient weapons.
08:06Fear, The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim.
08:08The Illusion School of Magic in The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim
08:11might be one of the most underrated skill trees in the game.
08:15The Calm and Fury spells are perfect for killing off your enemies
08:18without ever actually having to fight them,
08:21as they'll either let you effortlessly stab them in the back or kill each other for you.
08:25However, the same can't be said for the spell Fear.
08:28It's a more expensive version of Calm and as you can imagine,
08:32instead of having your enemies wait around to be killed,
08:35it causes them to run away from you.
08:36That said, although the spell seems kinda useless,
08:39the perks for Fear spells are secretly the greatest damage buffs in the game.
08:44It's just that they don't actually apply to your Fear spells.
08:48The description of the perk aspect of Terror says that it buffs Fear spells to work on higher opponents,
08:54but in reality, it does way more than that.
08:57The perk actually buffs all Fear-inducing abilities to be stronger.
09:01Meaning, if you combine it with the Augmented Flames perk,
09:04which causes your Fire spells to cause fear,
09:07Aspect of Terror will make them deal a ton more damage,
09:11turning even your base Flame spell into a weapon of mass destruction.
09:16Much more frightening than guys that just run away.
09:19It's brutal damage and easier to loot them.
09:21Luck from the Fallout series.
09:23Now, the first two Fallout games are a lot more unforgiving than the latter titles in the series,
09:28and a poorly made character will not be long for this savage world.
09:32Now, most Fallout players try to make their characters as combat-focused as possible
09:35to give them a chance to even make it to the end.
09:38However, the most seemingly useless attribute, luck,
09:41is secretly the most overpowered combat skill in your entire arsenal.
09:45You see, in the early game, high luck might not seem to do much,
09:48besides altering the game's ruthless RNG to be, well, marginally less ruthless,
09:53and it won't really boost your damage on weapons in any meaningful way,
09:56so it might feel like a waste to put too many points into it.
09:59However, if you make it to level 18 with a 10 luck character,
10:02and you have 8 points in Agility and Perception,
10:05you can purchase the Sniper perk,
10:07that will suddenly make you appreciate your seemingly useless attribute.
10:11You see, Sniper increases your probability to make a critical hit by 10% multiplied by your luck,
10:17meaning that a max luck character will have a 100% chance of doing critical damage with every single shot,
10:24and just like that, you can become the Wasteland's luckiest head-bursting badass.
10:30Create Water, Baldur's Gate 3.
10:32Your spellcaster's magical arsenal in Baldur's Gate 3 is staggering,
10:36which can make it kind of difficult for new players to figure out which ability is the strength.
10:41You have your Fireball, Disintegration, and a ton of other deadly spells,
10:46but most players will probably be surprised to learn
10:49the most powerful ability in the game is the humble magic of Create Water.
10:54Create Water is a level 1 spell that, much like water walking,
10:57does exactly what it says on the tin.
11:00It lets you create a puddle of water,
11:02and while making your enemies wet might seem completely pointless,
11:05it's actually a hidden way of totally obliterating them.
11:09When a creature is in a puddle of water, they gain lightning vulnerability,
11:12which doubles the amount of damage they receive from that element.
11:16On top of that, once a wet surface is hit with a lightning spell, it becomes electrified.
11:21This causes everyone inside to receive additional damage and potentially become stunned.
11:27Combining lightning spells with watery surfaces will let you deal hundreds of points of damage
11:31to multiple enemies at once, even with low-level spells like Witch Bolt.
11:36This is even deadlier if you've specced into the Sorcerer's Storm Sorcery subclass,
11:40which lets your lightning spells become even more effective.
11:43Basically, you're just combining two elements to be an unstoppable killing machine.
11:48And finally, let's talk about Barrelmancy from Divinity Original Sin 2.
11:52Divinity Original Sin 2 is a fantasy RPG set inside a world full of magic and supernatural powers,
11:58and when you create your character, you can make some pretty weird choices because there's some very weird abilities.
12:04But if you think spells like fireballs and necromancy are the most devastating attacks that you can unleash upon your
12:10enemies,
12:10think again, my friends.
12:12Because actually, the most powerful thing you can do here is take a barrel filled with worthless junk.
12:16You see, ever since the release of the game, fans of Divinity knew of a forbidden technique known as Barrelmancy.
12:23When you throw an object in the game, the damage it deals to a creature is calculated using your relevant
12:27abilities,
12:28but also, more importantly, the object's weight.
12:31Usually, the heaviest throwable objects don't have enough weight to deal serious damage,
12:35but if you stuff any large container, like a barrel with random items,
12:39you can make it so hefty that you'll be able to throw it at your enemies for a ton,
12:44excuse the pun, of extra damage.
12:46The only limiting factor here is that the extra weight might also be too much for your character to lug
12:50around,
12:51but if you take the telekinesis spell and master it,
12:54any amount of weight in the game will only be your enemy's problem instead,
12:58because you've just thrown a massive barrel at their head.
13:01Plus, it's hilarious, taking down the end boss with that,
13:03just kind of like, I will destroy the world and reshape it in my own...
13:06Oh, a barrel! God damn! Ow!
13:09Oh, I'm gonna need to sit down for a bit.
13:11That went right in my eye, you bastard.
13:13That's the end of our list.
13:14Let me know down in that comment section if you know of any other useless abilities
13:18that are actually amazing that we may not have mentioned here,
13:21and which one of the ones I mentioned is your favourite.
