00:00Well this is a fun game isn't it? If I suddenly go into a much harder gear, watch this.
00:07All right we'll go easier. Look what's just arrived. Yep if you're looking for a new turbo
00:13then there's a new one to consider. This is the new Elite Revo and whilst most other turbos are
00:20bashing on about how many decimal places they can measure your power to, this one promises
00:25something a bit different. Premium features in a compact and accessible format. Elite says that
00:31this makes it ideal for those new to indoor cycling or anyone who wants to keep ease of use
00:36and advanced performance at the centre of their experience. So here's everything that you need to
00:41know about it and a few things that you probably don't. Firstly let's take a look at some of the
00:47headline stats that I have here. So the new Revo starts at £499 which makes it one of the most
00:54affordable in Elite's interactive turbo trainer range. Number two, it's available with either
01:01a free hub body to take whichever cassette you might want to fit to it or the one that we
01:06have here which
01:07is compatible with Zwift's new cog and click system. More on that in a minute. Three, it has an accuracy
01:15of plus or minus 2.5% which let's be honest is probably more accurate than the power meter that
01:21you use outside. The turbo also has a maximum resistance of 2000 watts at 40 kph and that means
01:29that it can simulate gradients of up to 18% which let's be honest I'm not going to be troubling
01:35those
01:35kinds of numbers. And finally something quite unique about this turbo is the fact that it can be used
01:41without a connection or power going to it. So that means that you can set the resistance to whatever
01:47you want in the app beforehand. It remembers that and then you can use it without an internet connection
01:53or power. You know how I'm meant to be setting this up? Well what if we gave it to a
02:00absolute indoor
02:01training newbie? I think that would be better wouldn't it because then we'd get sort of their take on it
02:07rather than just all the super nerdy details which which I like. Who can I ring?
02:14Hello. Hiya mum, how are you? I'm alright, how are you? Are you alright? Yes, yes, yeah I'm fine.
02:21I was just wondering, I've got a new turbo trainer at work and I wondered if you wanted to come
02:26and try it out.
02:29Does that sound like something I'm qualified to do? Yeah, well the thing is this one may be yes.
02:39Go on. Oh okay. Come on, give it a go. Okay, yeah I'm up for that if you reckon I'll
02:45be able to do it.
02:48We'll see you in a bit. Right mum, here it is, the new Elite Revo. So it's a turbo trainer
02:56but potentially
02:57not like you've seen before. I don't know what that bit's for. We'll get to that bit in a minute.
03:05What have you got? Plugs. Plugs, good. Yeah, we'll need them as well. Right, grab it out then.
03:17Lovely. So first thing I've noticed is that you have picked it up. Yes, I don't think I've ever
03:23been able to pick up a turbo trainer before. No, I don't think you have either. Look at this, one
03:29-handed.
03:39So is there anything else that you notice that is different about this turbo to any that you've seen
03:44before? This bit? Yes. You know how you normally try and put your bike onto let's say my turbo or
03:54to
03:54dad's turbo for example and it doesn't always work right? But that's because your bike has a different
04:00number of gears to let's say my bike and so you'd need to change the cassette which have you ever
04:08changed the cassette before? No because I leave it for you to do but I have had to do it
04:15or it's had
04:16to be done. Yeah. So I could put my bike on this. So you can put your bike on this.
04:20And you could put
04:20your bike. I can put my bike on this. Dad can put his bike on this. We can all put
04:25our bikes on this
04:26because it's just it's a single speed in fact. And no that doesn't make it harder work because in a
04:31minute I'll show you how you actually change gear when you're when you're riding along. And it also
04:36means that when you go to purchase your turbo you can just buy this with with a Zwift click and
04:42cog
04:42and you don't have to worry about how many speeds your bike has. Sounds too good to be true at
04:48the
04:48moment. Let's let's make it. So we're following these instructions. We've got to put some legs on.
04:53So when you put the middle one on. The shorter one. Yeah.
05:07How would you describe your turbo training experience so far? I do enjoy turbo training
05:14but I'm not very accomplished at getting my bike on and off it.
05:25Yeah so I guess turbo training for you just isn't worth the hassle.
05:29Because by the time you've got your bike on it. Sunny again.
05:33I doubt that. We live in the UK. So obviously this is we only have to do this time.
05:39We only have to do this once. After this it'll be even quicker. But I wanted to see if this
05:47this turbo trainer really is beginner friendly. No beginner friendly.
05:54So far it's not doing half bad. Well it makes a lot of difference when you can actually physically
06:02pick it up as well. Yeah. Because some of them are so heavy. They're also a pain to store sometimes.
06:09And cumbersome because they're. The amount of turbos that don't have handles.
06:14And there's no good reason for a turbo to not have a handle. Can I tighten this one now?
06:18Yeah yeah tighten them all up.
06:24Oh this is this is one of my easier days at work. Story of your life James.
06:30Getting your mother to do things for you.
06:34Right go on then. And then these open out. Yes.
06:39Yep for when you're doing your sprints. Oh always.
06:48Are you even practicing getting up fast? Just for the camera?
06:52No I did just think hmm that like an old lady.
06:57Right what does it say? It says bike is not included.
07:03Okay game. Through axle or quick release. Right.
07:07Well through axle. Oh hello. I know these things. Right bike.
07:16And this is where I normally go. Jamie. Right there you go. Thank you.
07:24You have the instructions. Basically I just need to take my wheel out. Yes.
07:30So yeah like your old turbo was a wheel on turbo. Which was much easier to put it on but
07:35I wore out tires. Well it was only easier to put it on because we put the other skewer in
07:40for you.
07:44Yeah yeah nice. Nice. Yeah. And I'll put this over here.
07:49Okay so I'll take this off. Yeah. What does this little number mean here?
07:54You don't ask me. I bet it says on there. So where my chain is. Yeah so where your derailleur
08:02is
08:03like in relation to this. So it sorts out your chain line for when it's making loads of noise.
08:08So if it's noisy. I'm good at that. You can spin it.
08:12And I think even you might manage that. So we need to put this on here.
08:16And it needs to go all the way down here. Yeah. Is that right?
08:23Mm-hmm. I'll put it in a bit.
08:35Cool. We're on. So do you think that that is something that you could do on your own?
08:43Yes. Are we ready? Is it ready to go? Is that?
08:47You're the one with the instructions. You threw them on the floor.
08:50Oh we've lost the instructions. So yeah. So you just need to make sure that your derailleur
08:56is in line with this cog. And then yeah. Yeah. Just pedals.
09:03And then if it does make lots of noise then we can then twist this bit. Like that.
09:10And you see it just moves it a little bit. Just moves it slightly further out each time.
09:16So I imagine we get to a point and it goes back. Ready? That's ten. That one.
09:24Cool. But yeah. We'll see what that's like when you're pedalling.
09:28Right. If you hop on there then. And then we'll get this bit set up.
09:34Okay. So in here we have some elastic bandy things.
09:43And then we have these two little things. So these are what you're going to use to change gear.
09:50Okay. So we've got one. We're going to pop it there. We've got one that we're going to pop over
09:59here.
10:00And then you've got all your controls from Zwift on your handlebars. And that's what you're going to
10:06use to change gear. So they're on there and now you've got this minus. So that's going to make it
10:12easier for you. Easier gear. And the plus is going to make it a harder gear for you. And these
10:16controls
10:17are for navigating around Zwift. So now when you open Zwift you can well you can set it up. So
10:25go.
10:28So I need a power source. Yeah.
10:33Witches. Yeah. RevoCog. Cool. So if I click on it. Yeah.
10:39And then what we're also going to do is add it as a resistance.
10:46And it will also measure your cadence. You don't have a heart rate monitor on,
10:49so we can't add that. So what we can then do as well is add a control. Zwift click,
10:54which is these bits here. So if we put a tick in that box, then we've got those two.
11:01And then we can say, let's go. And I want to literally see how quickly we can get riding.
11:06So if I click here, start ride. We've literally put the bike on 30 seconds ago.
11:16We don't need a challenge. Pedal. And hopefully the avatar will move.
11:23Yeah. There he goes. All right. All right.
11:27We said about sprinting. You're about two times your FTP.
11:41Well, this is a fun game, isn't it? If I suddenly go into a much harder gear,
11:46watch this. All right, we'll go easier.
11:55So yeah, when you get to a hill, you'll still need to change gear and you can change them doing
11:59that.
12:00But also, if we make a U-turn by holding down that one, what else can you do?
12:07Oh, we can change the view. We can do an emote. What's one of those when it's at home?
12:17Give someone a wave like that. There we go. We've just waved it at no one because there's no one
12:22there.
12:23But you can go to your menu or that would ride on bomb.
12:29So all the people you're riding with, you can give one of those.
12:35And then you can also use this to use your power-ups as well. But we're focusing mainly on the
12:41gears.
12:42So yeah, here you can see that that's what gear you're in. So if you click those and go through
12:47them,
12:48then you can see that that changes and you go up through the gear. So now you're in gear two,
12:53so one of your easiest gears. And if you click the plus, then you'll go back through them and that'll
12:58make it harder. It's really easy to use. How have you found it so far then?
13:03It runs really smooth. When I had my old turbo trainer with my wheel on, if you did any out
13:12of
13:12the saddle stuff, it was really jerky. Ah, well, that was probably with your wheel on one.
13:18You know, you had to set the tension. That was always a bit of a pain or like as your
13:24tyre
13:24pressure change, sometimes that made a difference. Yeah. So yeah, there's not going to be any slippage
13:30and it's got a maximum resistance of 2000 watts. So I think I'll be safe. Go on, give it a
13:37go.
13:40So what do you think your maximum wattage is? For how long?
13:45Two seconds. Yeah. Probably your average. 200. Oh, we got 300. 372. There we go. You can work on that.
14:05Yeah.
14:11So do you reckon you're sold? Do we need to get you your own Zwift account?
14:15Yes, definitely. And do you reckon you can actually set it up by yourself and take it down again?
14:24Yeah, it was quite straightforward. So there you go, the new Elite Revo. A nice reminder
14:31that turbo training is nowhere near as complicated as it was 15 years ago. Let me know whether you agree
14:38or disagree down in the comments below. And if you want to find out anything else about the Elite Revo,
14:43then we'll pop a link to the website down in the description. As always, if you like this content,
14:48then please give it a like, subscribe to the channel, and we'll see you next time.
14:54Right. Sprint. Go, go, go, go.
