UNI freshman football player from Iowa City dies at 18

00:00Parker Sutherland, an 18-year-old freshman football player from Iowa City, has passed away.
00:06He was a tight end for the University of Northern Iowa Uni Panthers and had appeared in four games
00:11this season. Sutherland collapsed during an off-season workout at the Uni Dome and was
00:17pronounced dead at a local hospital. Sutherland was a standout athlete at Iowa City High School,
00:22earning all district and all conference honors in football, basketball, and baseball. He was
00:28known for his kindness, humility, and positive attitude, and was loved by his teammates and
00:34coaches. The Uni community is mourning his loss, with tributes pouring in from friends, family,
00:41and teammates. Parker embodied everything we look for in a Uni football panther, said head coach Todd
00:47Stepsis. His character, humility, toughness, and genuine love of others are what champions are made of.
