01:26I know that nothing I can say will bring your children home.
01:33I know that no words from me or anyone can fill the silence in your homes tonight, and
01:43I won't pretend otherwise.
01:45But I, the leader of the opposition, the leader of all the federal parties, wanted you to
01:52hear, not from Ottawa, not through a screen, but standing here together in your home, we
02:03wanted you to hear that Canadians are with you, and we will always be with you.
02:13We wanted you to hear that whatever portion of your sadness that Canadians can bear to
02:20help to ease your heavy load, we will gladly do so.
02:36I've spent the last few hours in Tumblr Ridge.
02:40With my colleagues, I've sat with families, first responders, friends, neighbours, who've
02:52had to live through something that no one should ever have to endure.
02:58And we've listened, and we've felt what's always defined this community.
03:06People caring for each other, that is who you are.
03:13In tough economic times, you didn't leave.
03:16You stayed, and you helped your neighbours find work.
03:20You kept the lights on at the rink, and the doors open at the school.
03:25When the wildfires threatened, you checked in on the seniors down the block.
03:30You loaded trucks.
03:30You made sure that no one was left behind.
03:35And when the unimaginable happened on Tuesday, you were there again.
03:42First responders at the school in less than two minutes, teachers shielding their children.
03:52You held each other as you're holding each other right now.
03:58This is grace.
04:00It's what we do for each other.
04:02It's what we receive from each other.
04:05Open hearts when the world falls apart.
04:11Tumblr Ridge is full of grace this evening.
04:18Tumblr Ridge is a plan of grace this evening.
04:25I want to speak for a moment about those we lost.
04:33Abdel Monza, a bright, shining, smiling, ambitious young man who loved school so much that he
04:42teared up when his father suggested homeschooling.
04:49Zoe Benoit, resilient, vibrant, caring, strong 12-year-old who loved art, singing, playing with
04:57her siblings.
05:00Tiki Lampard, Tiki Torch, a young woman powered by love and happiness who loved her siblings,
05:07painting, cooking, crafts, K-pop, demon hunters.
05:13Ezekiel Schofield, a hockey player who always had a smile on his face.
05:23Kylie Smith, beautiful, kind, innocent soul, an artist who dreamed of studying in Toronto
05:32one day.
05:36Shanda Avugana Durand, who on Tuesday went to Tumblr Ridge Secondary School so that students
05:43could learn, who stayed to protect.
05:47There's no greater act of love.
05:52Tonight, Maya and Paige are in BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver and we're praying for
05:57them and the others who are wounded.
06:02Just as we pray for Jennifer and Emmett who were taken from their home for they too deserve
06:09to be mourned.
