00:00What about all the policies involved in this, Gemma?
00:03Because there seems to be a lot of change happening in Bangladesh
00:06and a lot of change being called for.
00:09Yeah, there is.
00:10And this is where the two main parties,
00:13so the BNP and Jamati Islami, are actually very aligned.
00:18Both their top three policies are anti-corruption,
00:22they are economic revival and diversification,
00:25and youth and employment.
00:28So they have clearly taken note of the generation
00:32that was leading the protest that led to the toppling of the government,
00:37and they've prioritised that.
00:39Now, that's incredibly kind of savvy politics,
00:41but that's how politicians should be looking worldwide anyway,
00:45that you have to look to the youth
00:47and make sure they have full employment,
00:50listen to their concerns, that kind of thing.
00:52So they are very much aligned on all of those.
00:55Anti-corruption remains the top priority.
00:59Especially after the decades of rule that they've been under.
01:02They're looking at corruption,
01:05which the BNP calls entrenched corruption.
01:08So, yeah, they are quite aligned on that.
01:11Now, as Dr. Ellie has said,
01:14one of the main concerns about the Jamati Islami party
01:19is that younger people don't particularly want religion in their governance.
01:24They want the two kept separate.
01:27So that could be, you know,
01:29that could be a factor for young people voting there.
01:33But, yeah, there's also the BNP are looking at foreign relations.
01:37They're quite centring that as well.
01:39They want better relations with their neighbours,
01:41in particularly India as well.
01:43And also, whichever party forms the next government
01:48will have to form an excellent relationship with China,
01:51who has been investing so heavily in the infrastructure in Bangladesh
01:55over so many years.
01:56So that will be, that could as well elevate them on the world stage
02:00because as we know where China goes, you know, the headlines go.
02:04So that's another, you're going to be quite,
02:06you're going to become quite a big player on the world stage
02:08and they have to be ready for that.
