00:00Okay. My name is Jorge Sanchez. I'm the writer, director. So the whole project is called The Origin. It's actually a feature film. It's sci-fi, like, you know, so you have the Black Panther, but that Wakanda doesn't exist. The Dogon tribe actually does exist in West Africa. So I'm interested in that kind of telling stories that are steeped in truth and add some, embellish it to make it something sci-fi and something real. So that's where it came from.
00:30Hello, everyone. My name is J. Tasha St. Cyr, Miss Everything Entertainment, and I am the producer of this amazing film. And thank you, Jorge, for believing in me to see your vision to life and make sure that we got an amazing cast, crew. Shout out to the crew that's in the audience here today.
00:50And, yeah, so that was my role.
00:55And I'm Lonre Ida-Woo. I played Bondi.
00:58What was the hardest part for you, writing and producing this project?
01:08Oh, man. Filming.
01:11I think, well, the thing about it is we had meetings set up.
01:16There are different entities that wanted to do the feature, and everything was set up, and all the meetings were set up, and then strike happens.
01:22So everything is shut down.
01:24So about midway through, about one night, I called him and said, hey, man, I'm going to do a short.
01:30And he's like, let's do it.
01:32So it was like midnight.
01:33It's six in the morning.
01:34And the next morning, Morris Chestnut calls me and says, hey, you should do a short, bro.
01:37And so I was like, yeah, that's a wrap.
01:39So I said, yeah, I'd love to have you in it.
01:41He's like, come on, man.
01:41So we ended up getting it together.
01:45I believe J. Tasha is an amazing producer.
01:48Yes, she is.
01:51And she's a sister, so she gets it done.
01:53I can get her.
01:54She can cut some amount, and I can't do it.
01:57So we got it done.
01:59What's funny is we shot this in two days.
02:02Whoa.
02:02Yeah.
02:03Can I say something to that?
02:04Because he came to me with a script, and it was like, I forgot how many pages, but he was like, yeah, I want to shoot this in two days.
02:13I only got two days to shoot this.
02:14Like, Morris is only available in two days.
02:15I was like, huh?
02:17And he was like, yeah, so we got 19 pages to shoot today.
02:19I don't know about y'all, but shooting 19 pages in one day, one day, this guy, he made it happen.
02:26So thank you.
02:28So yeah, it's pretty crazy.
02:29But the beautiful thing about it is when you believe in something, you say you're going to get it done.
02:34And you get it done.
02:35And I think I love watching actors act.
02:38I love the crew doing what they do.
02:39Everybody, collaboration is collaboration.
02:41Yeah, collaboration is collaboration.
02:42That's the key to any amazing film and amazing project.
02:45So I wanted to know, how can we, what do we expect from you next?
02:49What is, after this?
02:51Yeah.
02:52So like I said, it was a feature film, but there's been, since this film, we've entered it in to only Academy Award festivals, and it's gotten into six already.
03:00So congratulations.
03:03We already won an award, so we're working on the rest.
03:06Yeah, we've gotten some awards.
03:07So the thing is, so initially it was a feature, and it's like a trilogy, but different production companies, studios, they also are asking about doing it as a series.
03:18So, you know, right now we're in the midst of deciding whether it's going to be a feature film or a series.
03:23Amazing. So for people in the audience, because we don't, if you want to ask questions, please feel free to ask questions.
03:28It's just right outside where we're finished.
03:29But I wanted you to say something to somebody who has watched this in the audience and is inspired by it.
03:35Just one take from everybody.
03:36One take to all the process.
03:40Just do it.
03:41Just do it.
03:41It's like Nike, you know, we have all these ideas and we have these thoughts and we have all these imaginary barriers in our mind, but just pick it up, do it.
03:49You all know, you know, if you're a filmmaker, you know somebody who writes, you know somebody who can hold a mic, hold the camera, hold, you know, learn sound, like learn lighting.
04:00Just do it. And it doesn't have to be perfect and don't wait. Like, let's do it. You know, Jorge and I started, you know, a long time ago.
04:07I would say 20 years, but, you know, I would have been 10 back then.
04:10And we used to just do short films, plays. We just do it. And it wasn't always perfect, but we got into the habit.
04:19And then when you get to a certain level, you can get somebody like J. Tasha to actually, like, do it, do it, like it's supposed to be done.
04:25But just start wherever you are with whatever you have and whoever you know.
04:30One thing that I love to do is always, you actually stole mine, but it's always network across so we all can level up.
04:39As he mentioned, there's a filmmaker, there's a writer, there's an actor.
04:44We all are looking to advance to the next level. So make sure you guys network across, build your team, because it's my team right here and we are going to the top.
04:53Let's go.
04:54Amen.
04:55Amen.
04:55And I think basically, I think, just to echo it, you just got to be about it. I mean, a lot of people talk, and especially in L.A., a lot of people talk about what they're going to do and what they're going to do.
05:06You just got to be about it. And I think that if you really are interested in making films, you can make it. You can make it happen.
05:12I think from what we've learned, collaboration is key to make a successful project. Please, round of applause for our beautiful, beautiful audience.
05:20Please, if you want to keep in touch with them and want to know more about what they're doing and, you know, connect and collaborate, network, please feel free to just ask questions.
05:29You know, find them outside. They're very approachable because everyone is looking for something, and that's the best way to make films.
05:34Thank you very much.
05:36Make sure you guys follow the Origin film on social media so you guys can keep up with what we're doing, the next festival, and our film.
05:45Thank you guys for coming. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
