00:00Plans to build two covered paddle tennis courts at Pontefract Squash and Leisure Club have been
00:06approved by Wakefield Council. The courts will be located on part of the club's car park on
00:11Stewart Road and aim to diversify sports offerings. Paddle, a fast-growing game blending tennis and
00:18squash, will operate with minimal noise impact and limited effect on nearby historic sites,
00:23including the former Mortuary Chapel. Officials say the scheme could create some employment
00:29opportunities and enhance community health and well-being. Conservation officers have
00:35confirmed there is no harm to heritage buildings. The club plans to expand its facilities and
00:41attract more visitors this year and beyond.
