02:52Joe wrote this script when he was 19
02:56he managed to do it when he's 21

02:59and just like the film
03:02is about family
03:03Joe is a family
03:05and like the film
03:06it's a little bit sad
03:08to see someone from the family
03:09leaving but yet again
03:10the film is a good feeling film
03:12you watch the film
03:13you kind of
03:14you feel filled with love
03:16and joy and all of this
03:18your cast is amazing
03:19I wanted to know like
03:21what was the challenge for you
03:23as a first time director
03:25and did your massive career
03:28in acting
03:29change your approach as a director
03:32to talk with the other actors
03:33yeah I mean
03:34I mean honestly
03:35the experience of directing the film
03:37and directing all of those wonderful actors
03:39was absolutely incredible
03:40and yes
03:41I'd carried a lot of things
03:42from my experiences as an actress
03:45working with extraordinary directors
03:47as I have done
03:48but some of those directors
03:49are really comfortable
03:51with the actors
03:51and really form those trusting relationships
03:54with actors
03:54whereas some directors
03:56are a little bit more visual
03:57and perhaps don't feel as comfortable
03:59with the kind of language
04:00that can help an actor
04:02and support them in playing their role
04:04so I did go into it
04:06knowing absolutely
04:07what does not work for an actor
04:09and I just stayed well away
04:10from all of those things
04:11and I really lent into
04:13as well
04:14the side of myself
04:15that is a mother
04:16when it came to taking care
04:18of all those children
04:18seven children on that set every day
04:20they all called each other
04:22in their character names
04:23all the time
04:24from the very beginning
04:25they only introduced themselves
04:26to each other
04:27in their character names
04:28and what that meant was
04:30when they would fall into
04:32our world of make-believe
04:33and they never knew
04:34the cameras were rolling
04:35when they rolled into it
04:37they were always entirely
04:39in their character
04:40and they would never get a name wrong
04:42because they were only using
04:44the character names
04:45and they were calling us
04:46in our character names as well
04:47so I was able to capture
04:49all of that
04:50the spontaneity
04:51from those children
04:52giving them an opportunity
04:54to feel safe
04:55and to feel as though
04:56they were on a 35 day play date
04:59they never wanted it to end
05:00because I only had 35 days
05:02to shoot the movie
05:03and I only had Helen Mirren
05:04for 16 days
05:05so I had to be very
05:07very prepared
05:08and really ready
05:09and make sure
05:10that I made every single one
05:12of my days
05:12and I'm very proud to report
05:14that I did
