00:33:00I'm not sure if Carmelo would quite agree with that.
00:33:03But certainly, resume-wise, Miz is one of the best in history, certainly of his generation.
00:33:11He's looking to add to that resume by defeating the United States Champion tonight and hopefully
00:33:17earn himself a championship opportunity at some point down the line.
00:33:21This, a non-title match between Carmelo Hayes and the Miz, and Miz comes at him right away.
00:33:28You mentioned the history, of course, as Melo don't Miz, the former tag team partner.
00:33:33And then Miz, long ago, felt that Melo had the audacity to say he was moving on with his
00:33:38own personal goals, and Miz attacked him back in the fall.
00:33:42And now we get to this stage.

00:33:50But I will say this, the point of Melo linking up with Miz 12 months ago, roughly, was to

00:34:09So Melo certainly is in that top-tier bracket now.

00:34:22He's looking for a step up to the back of the head.

00:34:55ring with one of the best on SmackDown in the Miz.

00:35:24But the veteran just takes out his legs and that thud to the back of the head and upper

00:35:42And now Miz has a major upper hand in this one.

00:36:27delivering that big boot and hooks the leg right into the cover looking to put
00:36:32it away but the kick out by Hayes he's shown a little frustration there one of
00:36:38his main tactics of late has been using his VEC status to try and intimidate
00:36:44referees and almost bully them into giving him favorable decisions I don't
00:36:49think this referee in particular is going to fall for that
00:36:52driving all that leverage of that right leg across the back you can see the throat of Hayes
00:37:04man oh man just draped over that middle rope well I talked about it earlier Joe eventually the kind
00:37:10of schedule you run as a United States champ insisting on a weekly open challenge against
00:37:15top competitors and he's going to catch up with you and you never really know when that's going to be
00:37:21and of course after that a bunch of travel over to Saudi Arabia about 11 time zones there and back
00:37:27a big right forearm and a chop from Carmelo Hayes as he looks to fight his way back but the Miz
00:37:40takes advantage hooks the leg looking for the win right here
00:37:45I'll tell you those boos from this crowd are just music to the Miz's ears he's not one to be
00:37:52intimidated by a hostile crowd though this crowd would love to have a little juice to
00:37:59Melo right now he certainly looks like he needs it completely dominant the Miz has been from the early
00:38:05goings in this one
00:38:06just classic stuff from the Miz and that might do it here it could right here
00:38:28spike in Melo right on the top of his head and you see Melo fading rapidly it's not often you see
00:38:34Melo in this kind of predicament for this sustained amount of time
00:38:42Miz was instrumental in Carmelo Hayes beating Ilya Dragunov a couple of weeks ago in that open
00:38:48challenge it would appear that Melo knew nothing about that Miz struck took out Dragunov and then
00:38:54implied in the aftermath but it was all Dragunov's idea
00:39:07first time that Carmelo Hayes and the Miz have ever gone one-on-one of course recent tag team
00:39:13champions from last year and now Carmelo Hayes looking to fight back against the veteran the former
00:39:19WWE champion something a little extra on these shots from Melo right now a lot of anger a lot
00:39:25of fury boiling out of Melo risking a disqualification there go listen to the referee
00:39:32the Miz pounce him once again Melo has been outstanding in all his recent defenses of the
00:39:37United States oh man oh man La Mystica yeah that tilt-a-world spinning face buster of Carmelo Hayes
00:39:46and you can see the effect it has had on the Miz and Melo's taking a real beating in this one but
00:39:52he's caught his second wind at just the right time oh man he goes flying we'll go for that high risk
00:39:59offense nasty landing for Melo too but Miz appeared to take the brunt of that
00:40:04and this one has swung around in a major way in the blink of an eye
00:40:09and that is championship level stuff there from Carmelo Hayes
00:40:16Hayes going up top where he is most comfortable oh the knees are up
00:40:22Miz got the knees up and Hayes is able to kick out but you can see him writhing in pain well it was
00:40:30nice durability and timing there from the Miz just as Melo reaches his peak okay knees up boom there you
00:40:37go almost pulling out the wind there of course this is a Miz who has previously won in the main event
00:40:45of Wrestlemania back in 2011 over John Cena no less so we know when the going gets tough the Miz sometimes
00:40:53gets back to his best looking for one more but Hayes gets out of the way looking for a quick one right
00:41:03here and the Miz survives with a count of two oh trying for that skull crushing finale but instead
00:41:10an arm drag and a big kick lateral press we cover and the Miz able to get that right shoulder up yeah you're
00:41:18right Joe that cover was there but there wasn't much to it from Melo it was a desperation shot to
00:41:24the jaw of Miz or perhaps the nose of Miz that certainly took him down but Melo not with it quite
00:41:31enough left in the tank for a tightly stacked pin which could well have been the difference maker
00:41:36been an incredible run for Carmelo Hayes coming up with the recent victories against Shinsuke Nakamura and
00:41:42Leon Slater Ilya Dragunov Ray Phoenix of course that Dragunov match that's when the Miz interfered and
00:41:50Hayes wasn't happy about the way that he retained with that win against Ilya Dragunov
00:41:55Melo almost getting caught on that top rope once again it's not worked out well for him tonight and
00:42:00Miz showing his power is he ever oh the Miz could do it right here wow unique slingshot style power bomb there
00:42:11from the Miz who is really digging deep into the playbook tonight and that shows a certain level
00:42:17of respect to Carmelo Hayes yeah I'm gonna pull out something pretty special if I'm gonna beat Melo here
00:42:23this was pretty special it still didn't get the job done for the Miz but Miz is getting closer and
