00:00Talking about Kantara, it was close to 900 crore business, it was a big deal.
00:05I didn't get anything in that.
00:07What do you think about 900 crore?
00:09I said I didn't want anything to do with profit sharing.
00:14I told her that I was like, I'll take zero fees, I'll do profit sharing.
00:18So did you do the film for free?
00:20No, no, no. They refused. They said no, we are not giving you a card of profits.
00:24Okay.
00:25You pay me this much. They said okay.
00:27That's very sad, yeah.
00:28No, no, it's fine. I'm just making a face.
00:31No, but I did really try to get a profit sharing deal.
00:34I said I'll do it for zero fees.
00:36Yeah.
00:37Well, in the sense that, see the first one was really, it was very anticipated film.
00:41People really, people really across like India, they really loved the first film.
00:46It really connected with them.
00:48So I knew that, I don't know how much it's going to do, but then like business wise, career wise, it's a great move.
00:54Yeah.
00:55Also.
00:56So it's a great part and I like Rishabh, but it's also a great move career wise.
01:01So I thought I'll take a chance and see whether this will work.
01:04But how did it come to you?
01:05Obviously, Humble, they saw, they saw me telegraphing the move.
01:10They said no, no, no.
01:12No, but how did it come to be? Like, how did it come to you?
01:16Rishabh offered, he called me and he offered it there.
01:19I heard that you all signed the deal over dosa or something.
01:24No, no, no, no.
01:25That was, I met him first over dosa in 2019.
01:29But we had discussed many other projects before that.
01:32He had a couple of other scripts.
01:35And then we eventually even wanted to make one called Rudra Prayag.
01:38It didn't happen.
01:39The lockdown hit in and lots of other things, variables.
01:41But Kanthara was never part of all the, any discussions that we had had
01:47because he himself was not making, it hadn't come to, occurred to him.
01:51All of these things happened during the lockdown.
01:53And the film came out in 2022.
01:55So Kanthara, the first one is a lockdown baby.
01:58Yes.
01:59So, but I saw the first one.
02:02I really loved it.
02:03And I kind of had an instinct that he'll call me.
02:05Why?
02:06And he, sorry.
02:07Why?
02:08Just sometimes you have this instinct because he's tried to work with me.
02:11And then we have this like, he seemed like the right guy to do something with.
02:16He is passionate and there's something about him.
02:20Like, you know, he was like, you know, we kind of, I was like, you know, this guy's good.
02:24Like he's, there's something about him.
02:26Like it'll be, it'll be fun to work with him.
02:28It's like that.
02:29And he wrote that part, keeping me in mind.
02:32So it was almost like they were writing, like Gulu's going to do it.
02:36Now it's only a matter of Gulu, Gulu Maharaj, he calls me.
02:39It's only a matter of Gulu Maharaj likes it.
02:41So fortunately for everybody, including myself, I liked it.
02:46Okay.
02:47And you did a great job.
02:50So congratulations on that.
02:52Have I ever not done a great job?
02:53Come on.
02:54I mean, yeah.
02:55But at the cause.
02:56Look at me drink this coffee.
02:57Can anybody drink this better?
02:59You are very funny.
03:01Yes.
03:02If you have any doubt about my sense of humor, go and read my social media bio.
03:07Okay.
03:08I say it myself that my sense of humor is very good.
03:11Oh.
03:12And slowly you will get to know.
03:14Okay.
03:15You took your own one.
03:16I stole this line.
03:17Yeah.
03:18I stole this line, but I'm a thief like that.
03:19Okay.
03:20Okay.
03:21I'm going to tear my heart.
03:22Okay.
03:23Okay.
03:24Tell me one thing.
03:25You have done so much of work before this also.
03:36I have a specific question for you.
03:38I have seen a film at the cost of sounding dumb.
03:41Foot Ferry.
03:42Foot Ferry.
03:43Yeah.
03:44I don't understand the ending.
03:45Yeah.
03:46I don't understand.
03:47I don't understand.
03:48And that?
03:49No one.
03:50Yeah.
03:51So then who was the thief like?
03:53Who was the one?
03:54See, let me tell you like the way I understood the film.
03:58Right?
03:59When I read the manuscript, I understood the film as sometimes in life, you're never going
04:07to get what you really want.
04:08Okay.
04:09You have to accept that and move on.
04:11If you see in that film, except for Vivant Deshmukhu I play, everybody else has moved on.
04:16They have accepted that we have failed at catching the criminal.
04:19Yeah.
04:20And the crime stopped.
04:21Yeah.
04:22So that's it.
04:23They have moved on.
04:24But he has not moved on.
04:25From being a very bright and honhar CBI officer, up and coming CBI officer who could have gone
04:31on to be done great things.
04:33He quits the CBI.
04:34Yeah.
04:35And you know, he's living in with that.
04:39He's not able to accept it.
04:40Like he's still it that that particular case really affects him.
04:45I saw.
04:46Yeah.
04:47So for me, that's what the film is about.
04:50That you know, you have to learn how to accept sometimes that you will never get closure.
04:54Okay.
04:55Sometimes you will never get closure.
04:56So you should just let it be.
04:58You should give it up and you should go on.
05:00Okay.
05:01There's another thing that was interesting in that particular character.
05:04Usually, the protagonist or the leading man is always right about stuff.
05:09This I found it interesting because Vivant Deshmukh is wrong about everything.
05:13You introduce him as the protagonist, as a leading man, as a really big shot CBI guy, very
05:20smart, intelligent, up and coming officer.
05:22He has the chops to solve this case.
05:25But every instinct, everything that he has for this case is wrong.
05:29Yeah.
05:30Yeah.
05:31I saw because.
05:32But he doesn't, but you don't know that until the end.
05:36You don't know that until the end.
05:38So if you backtrack and see everything, every instinct or every idea he had were all wrong.
05:42In fact, his subordinates were probably having a more conservative approach to the case.
05:46They were, they were probably a bit more right than him or they didn't know.
05:50But he was so sure of himself and he's wrong about everything.
05:53And I thought that it's a wonderful opportunity for me to play a tashing leading man who's wrong,
05:59who's actually wrong about everything.
