“Saiyaara” wasn’t born from heartbreak—but from something deeper.

In Episode 5 of Table for Two, acclaimed music composer Tanishk Bagchi sits down with Asianet News for his most personal interview yet.

He shares the emotional story behind his version of Saiyaara, not as a tale of lost love—but as a reflection of systemic heartbreak.

From once aspiring to be a pilot, to losing his classically trained sister—the turning point that led him to music—Bagchi’s journey is one of pain, passion, and persistence.
He also dives into the creative challenges he faced, including producers who didn’t always “get” his music—and how he stayed true to his sound.

00:00Sayara, was it born out of a heartbreak?
00:04It's a product of pain.
00:06Pain?
00:07Yeah, it's a product of pain because it's not about me, it's about the entire system that was there.
00:13They were all going through heartbreaks.
00:15Creatively, the song, how long did it take to sort of like create all the songs for the movie?
00:21It was a long journey for me, whether it's music, but constructing the entire Sayara track and everything
00:29was itself a magic for me.
00:31When it was done, I couldn't believe that we made such kind of music.
00:36One line of feedback from a producer that didn't sit well with you.
00:41What did they say?
00:44I felt that they actually don't understand my music a lot.
00:49Wait, I'll tell you the name only. It's from this film.
00:52The session where you thought that, oh my God, this is going to be a disaster. I already know it.
01:01Who's mine?
01:03How difficult was it for you to, was it like sort of some sort of like a pressure to carry on forward a legacy?
01:11Initially, I didn't want to do music.
01:14What did it do then?
01:15I wanted to fly a plane.
01:17I wanted to fly.
01:18And my mind was that I lost my sister in the family.
01:24And after that, because she was classically trained and she was the person like my mom and dad actually thought that
01:32she was the person like me and she was the person like me and I was the person like me.
01:34So, I left everything and then I started doing music.
01:36I started doing music.
