00:00My name is Eric Weinmere, I'm a blind mountain climber.
00:02When I went blind, there was a time that I thought that life was filled with a lot of loss and not a lot of gain.
00:07Sometimes things are taken away and sometimes things are given to you and you have to appreciate the things that you have.
00:12I think all the things that you need to survive and do well on a mountain also help you do well in life.
00:17I had been learning how to use ingenuity, to use innovation to kind of reach beyond the obvious
00:23and find these secret systems that enable me to do things that I might not have thought I could do.
00:28When I'm reaching out and swinging my ice tool, you know, I'm pretty sure it's a good hit, but you're never really sure.
00:33Sometimes that fear of reaching out into the unknown paralyzes people to the point they just decide not to reach out at all.
00:39All the great things that have ever come to me have come through reaching out.
00:43And I think life is just sort of an ongoing process of reaching out into the darkness when you really don't know what you're going to find.
