00:00The climate works is the work for the youth, but we have the other component of the river regeneration, and this is where we are working on the 27.2 kilometers along Nairobi River.
00:11We have called the contractor today to help the people who have worked with this climate works.
00:19This is Dandora Phase 4, one of the places where the Nairobi River winds its way through the community.
00:30For years, the river was little more than an open sewer, clogged with garbage, choked with waste and avoided by nearly everyone.
00:41But today, things are beginning to change.
00:44A group of young people engaged through the climate works program are giving this river a second chance.
01:04Equipped with tools, gloves and sheer determination, these men and women are clearing the river banks,
01:11removing mountains of waste and opening new channels for water to flow.
01:16We are making sure that we are going to protect our local community.
01:19But we are going to continue to do this as we are going to do this.
01:22We are going to continue to change, and we can't see that we are going to flow.
01:30At least, we are going to grow.
01:33For the youth, the initiative has been transformative. It is not just about clearing a river, it is about restoring dignity and creating livelihoods.
02:03This program is part of the government's broader commitment, championed by President William Ruto to create jobs and open opportunities for young people across the country.
02:33And the impact goes beyond jobs. In a community once associated with high crime, the program has reduced insecurity, not through policing, but through opportunity.
02:44The Nairobi River still has a long journey to full restoration, but here in Dandora Phase 4, the progress is real and it reflects a larger vision of a cleaner environment, empowered youth and a future full of possibility.
