00:00Hello everyone, this is Venma Pehan. Today's topic is using EFS to share a website between two easy to instance. So here we go.
00:13Introduction. We have got two easy to instance and we want them to share the same website files. We don't want to keep updating both separately. That's just too much work. The goal is simple. Update in one place and it shows up in others. And for that we have got a pretty neat tool that is called Amazon EFS.
00:41Basically it is a shared storage for easy to. Think of EFS like this. I mean two friends planning a vacation. Instead of carrying separate Rolex, they open a shared account just for the trip.
01:01Now whenever one adds money, the others instantly sees it. That's exactly how EFS works. Instead of money we are talking about website files.
01:11Change it on one server and the other sees it immediately.
01:17So in plain words EFS is managed scalable file storage for Linux.
01:23You can mount it on multiple easy to instance at once. And they will all be reading and writing to the same pace.
01:31It uses NFS protocol. It uses NFS protocol. Nothing fancy you have to manage yourself. And it's great for share stuff like website or app file.
01:40So here's how it looks. Here's how it looks. We have got easy to instance A and easy to instance B. Both with Apache installed. We mount the same EFS folder to slash var slash www slash HTML on both.
01:57Now when I upload a new index. Now when I upload a new index.html for example. On a easy to instance A. It instantly appears on instance B. No syncing. No copying. Just a.
02:11To set this up. To set this up. We launch it to easy to Linux instance. Same VPC and same availability zone.
02:21Different availability zone. You can create a different availability zone as well as. So create an EFS file system. Mount it on both easy to.
02:29With easy tools. At slash var slash www slash HTML. Install Apache or Nginx. Upload the website file on one server. And watch them appear on both. When you check their public DNS.
02:46The important notes are. EFS works only with Linux instance. Not with Windows. Data is truly shared. So if you delete something. It's gone. For everyone.
02:57For everyone. Performance scan. I mean the EFS performance scan vary depending on your traffic. And don't forget to check Apache's document roof. Make sure it is pointing to EFS. If needed.
03:11So next benefits of using EFS. The best thing about EFS. No manual file. Manual file syncing. No complicated scripts. It's always up to date. It is highly available and perfect. Sorry and perfect.
03:26If you have got a load balancer. If you have got a load balancer. Or multiple web server. Sharing the same site.
03:33Conclusion. So EFS just makes life easier. When you want shared storage across easy to instances. Update once. See it everywhere. And keep your website consistent. Without extra work.
