00:00I never imagined that I could make films. I just wanted to be as close to film as possible because
00:24I love films and so getting into publicity and doing film publicity was the way that I thought
00:28I mean I just thought this is it I just I can be on film sets I can just I just thought it was gonna
00:36be everything and then as on those film sets I started to observe the directors and think wait
00:41I want to be doing that is that possible you know when I look back I really think that the inspiration
00:52or I guess the bravery that it takes the courage that it takes to move from one career to another
00:57later in life it came from my mother because I saw her change careers later in life and so this
01:05is what she longed to do and so she had the bravery and the courage to do it something in there the
01:09mechanics of being able to watch her do it know that it could be done actually was fuel for me
01:15and doing it myself I know so many amazing artists that it just is wrong that that only a few of us
01:28might be singled out whenever I get an opportunity I'm trying to amplify those other people because
01:32it's no fun being at a party by yourself you know it really is not a party you know I just want to
01:36really want to celebrate what everybody does to be around people beautiful energy of people creating
01:41and giving people inviting people into a project or maybe giving people opportunity they hadn't had I
01:46mean that feeds me like I'm fat on you know love and good vibes good experiences and it's like why would
01:53you not want to do that our work is to make sure that it's not a trend and that it's that it's just it's
02:05change and it's hard to know if a trend has changed until it's no longer a trend until it's
02:11consistent it's been around for a minute and we're not we're not there yet so we got it it remains to
02:17be seen but in the meantime we have to do the work and I think the work is even more important now in
02:20this era it's going to be important for artists of all kinds who are forward-thinking particularly
02:27women in particular people of color and particularly black women to make our voices heard because it will
02:33be our weapon our art would be our weapon and we need to handle that
