Firefighters in Argentina’s Chubut province continued to battle relentlessly on Feb 2 to contain wildfires that have scorched an estimated 50,000 hectares, as crews hoped for lighter rain and cooler temperatures to ease their struggle.

00:13Authorities said the fire had hit the area badly and is even breaching the UNESCO-recognized
00:19Los Alerses National Park, and they hoped that cooler weather would help contain the

00:25Long winds over the weekend forced road closures and repeatedly pushed crews back for safety.
00:35Firefighter Hector Luis Civitariale said dense overgrown forests are making efforts to control

00:41This water tanker truck driver said they had been fighting fires in the area for more than
00:46a month and the situation is worrying.
00:49Wildfires in the Patagonia region have burned an area more than twice the size of Buenos
00:54Aires, prompting criticisms over budget cuts under President Javier Millet that reduced
00:59aid resources.
01:01The government said it will declare an emergency in Chubut, Rio Negro, Nuken and La Pampa provinces
01:07to release funds for the firefighting efforts.
