00:00As the clamor to read through the three million new pages of Epstein Files continues,
00:05President Trump has lashed out at discredited author Michael Wolff, who he says conspired
00:09with Epstein to try and destroy his political career. The president says the proof is in the
00:14pudding, which in this case means contained in the newly released documents. Here's what he had
00:19to say about it on Air Force One over the weekend. I was told by some very important people that
00:24not only does it absolve me, it's the opposite of what people were hoping, you know, the radical
00:2911th, that Wolff, who's a third-rate writer, was conspiring with Jeffrey Epstein to hurt me
00:37politically or otherwise. And that came through loud and clear. So we'll probably sue Wolff by that.
00:44The president also suggested that he could sue the Epstein estate over the issue.
00:48Now, this particular part of Epsteingate began in February of 2016, when Michael Wolff suggested
00:55that Jeffrey Epstein could be the, quote, bullet to end Trump's first campaign. Wolff also floated
01:01the idea that Epstein had the power to intimidate Trump for his own benefit. When Wolff was confronted
01:06about the sorts of things he said to Epstein, he said he no longer remembered the context in which
01:11he said it. I'll be talking with the post-political reporter Ryan King a little later about the impact
01:16that the latest document dump could have and what's left to be released. But first, here are some
01:21other stories making headlines today. Election season is officially upon us, and the president
01:28is in full campaign mode. In his continued push to rally voters ahead of the midterms, he's, well,
01:35for lack of a better word, bragging about his tariffs. In a Wall Street Journal op-ed, Trump gave himself a
01:39big presidential pat on the back, saying that his policy, quote, created an economic miracle. And he slammed
01:46what he said were so-called experts who predicted the failure of his policy, citing new stock
01:51market highs and, in his words, virtually no inflation. He went on to credit tariffs for a 27%
01:57drop in the federal budget deficit and a 77% drop in the monthly trade deficit. Now, sticking with the
02:03economy here, the president also made his choice to replace Fed Chair Jerome Powell in May, Kevin
02:08Warsh. You might recall that the president and Powell have been at odds for quite a while now. During a
02:14ritzy D.C. dinner on Friday, Trump joked that he might sue Warsh if he doesn't slash interest rates.
02:20That's something Powell has been slow to do, much to the displeasure of the president. Now,
02:25after he made the comment, the president told reporters he was just joshing, quote,
02:29it's a roast, it's a comedy. A shocking election result in Texas that Republicans are hoping isn't
02:35a harbinger of things to come, speaking of those approaching midterms. For the first time since 1992,
02:41a Fort Worth area Senate seat is going blue. Taylor Romet defeated the Trump-backed Republican,
02:47and not just by a little, but by more than 14 points. The special election was in the state's
02:539th district. That's an area President Trump won by 17 points just 15 months ago. DNC Chair Ken
03:00Martin said that Romet's victory is a, quote, warning sign to Republicans across the country.
03:05Now, the election filled a seat left open when four-term Republican Kelly Hancock became the state's
03:10comptroller over the summer. And that wasn't the only special election in Texas this weekend.
03:14Democrat Christian Menefee prevailed in the historically blue 18th U.S. Congressional
03:20District, filling the seat in Washington left vacant by the death of Democratic Congressman
03:24Sylvester Turner back in March. So that one wasn't exactly a shocker like the other, but as you well
03:29know by now, the Republican majority in the House is teeny tiny, and now it's tinier. Elections like
03:36these are seen by some as a kind of crystal ball ahead of the midterms. And now President Trump is
03:41hoping to do what very few presidents from either party have been able to do throughout history—keep
03:46his party in power on Capitol Hill. For more on these stories and everything else you could
