00:00I'm always a little insecure with just having one guitar that I want to make it sound like as big as it can be.
00:05I do use a non-wound G-string for that, which people tell me I shouldn't do.
00:10My brother got that for me for Christmas, and I feel bad if I don't put it on my board.
00:30What's up? I'm Nick from Greyhaven. Nick Spencer.
00:44We're here on tour, our first real headliner with Fox Lake and Commoner.
00:49It's been great. We're near the end of it.
00:52And these are my guitars.
00:55The one I use on stage the most is...
00:58I have an endorsement with Ballard Gear Guitars.
01:01This is the Woodman.
01:04This is the custom one I got made.
01:06They had a mahogany body.
01:08And yeah, it's one of my favorite guitars I've ever played.
01:12Just simple.
01:14That's all I am, is simple.
01:16So it's basically all stock.
01:19I am basically always on the bridge pickup all the time.
01:24Sometimes when we write, I'll go to the neck.
01:26But yeah, bridge pickup most of the time.
01:30We're maxed out on both those at all times.
01:33Sometimes I'll dial the volume back a little bit for some clean parts.
01:37If I don't want to switch to my clean channel, I'll dial the volume back a little bit.
01:41But sometimes it's a little too much work than necessary with my hands.
01:45But yeah, so I'm working with 12 to 56s, Ernie Ball.
01:52Yeah, and we're in Drop B.
01:55And I do use a non-wound G-string for that, which people tell me I shouldn't do.
02:01But I still do it.
02:02That's what my fingers like to do.
02:05So yeah, that's basically that.
02:07This is my backup.
02:07It's a growler, stock, everything.
02:10This came off the other night.
02:12I don't know where it is.
02:13Don't tell them.
02:15So yeah, got to find another knob for that.
02:18But yeah, this is the first one that I got from them.
02:20And then I eventually wanted to get my own custom-made one.
02:24But I love them both equally.
02:26But yeah, haven't had to use the backup yet on this tour, which is nice.
02:30But yeah, it's nice to have.
02:33This one is a maple body.
02:35And that one is an monogamy.
02:36That's the only real difference.
02:38And obviously a different body style.
02:40But yeah, and it's got an ebony fretboard on both, which I prefer.
02:44But yeah, and same setup with the strings and everything.
02:48This is an Orange Rockaburb 50.
02:50Actually, the only amp I've ever really played.
02:53I've had it for close to 20 years.
02:55I'm very simple-minded and traditional.
02:57This is, I know how it works.
03:00I know how I like it.
03:01And it has the two channels, and that's all I need.
03:05And yeah, and then I run it through, I just got this orange 4x12 cab.
03:10And then I run into two cabs on both sides.
03:13That one is actually not mine.
03:15That is Fox Lake's.
03:15But I do have another cab at home that I use.
03:17So I can't say that's mine.
03:19But yeah, and I run both.
03:21And same thing, just stereo.
03:23Same thing's coming out of both.
03:24So on the dirty channel, I typically, sometimes that treble from room to room, I'll take down or up.
03:31For the clean channel, since I got this orange cab, which I do love, it doesn't have a lot of high-end as much as I want.
03:39So when I go to the clean channel, I like to rock the treble a lot higher than I usually do when I had a Marshall cab that I used before.
03:47But yeah, that's basically it.
03:49I don't mess with the reverb at all.
03:50But the gain's usually about right there.
03:53Sometimes when I'm feeling a little feisty, I'll rock the gain up a little bit.
03:57And I'm sure the sound guy's like that when I change it mid-set.
04:00But yeah, and then, yeah, I think that's about it.
04:05And I always, I don't scoop the mids like I know a lot of heavy artists do sometimes.
04:11But I like having the mid-range in there.
04:14And then the bass, I usually, everything's pretty much cranked up.
04:19I don't know if that's good or bad, but I try to fill it out being the one guitarist.
04:22I like to fill it out.
04:24So yeah, I'm always a little insecure with just having one guitar that I want to make it sound like as big as it can be.
04:31So I'm running initially the guitar obviously into a tuner.
04:36And then I have the Blue Sky.
04:38Everything's very dirty.
04:39Don't judge me.
04:41Yeah, Blue Sky is for obviously all the reverb-y parts.
04:44And I use the Blue Sky a lot because with the loop pedal, I don't, the loops I'm using are like,
04:52mostly like ambient noises.
04:54They're not rhythmic.
04:55They don't have, because we don't play to a click.
04:57So they can't be on time.
04:58So they're just elongated noises to fill out courses or parts that need that.
05:03So I use the Blue Sky to create those loops and sounds in the background.
05:07And then, yeah, it's also, we don't play to a click or a computer or anything.
05:11So it's definitely, it's a test every night because I will sometimes forget that the loop is on.
05:18I need to turn it off because everything's doing it manually.
05:20Yeah, I do that.
05:22And then we've got the Epitome from Electro Harmonics.
05:25This is the Savior right here.
05:27It's got the Pog, I think the Chorus pedal, and then the Holy Grail Reverb.
05:32I use all those a lot.
05:34And it's all in one box, which is nice.
05:37And then the Giga Delay, which I've had probably as long as that amp, probably 20 years.
05:41It's just, it's the Delay pedal I know the best.
05:44I'm more familiar with it.
05:45And then I've always just played a Maxon.
05:48I prefer those over the Tube Screamers.
05:50I don't know why.
05:51But yeah, I know how they work.
05:54And obviously I'm missing knobs on that too.
05:55Everything's falling apart in the tour.
05:59But we're here.
06:00And then obviously just the channel switch for the orange.
06:03Yeah.
06:04And then there's the Cry Baby here, but I'm not using it at the moment.
06:08My brother got that for me for Christmas, and I feel bad if I don't put it on my board.
06:12So shout out Steve.
06:14It's here.
06:16Yeah.
06:17Yeah, and then the noise suppressor, which is necessary.
06:22I always had this like theory that I would have a clean enough chain to where I would never
06:25need a noise suppressor, a gate, or anything.
06:28But that's just not realistic anymore.
06:32So yeah, we got that going.
06:33I used the Dunlop 0.73.
06:38Sometimes I will use something a little thicker if I've, I don't know.
06:42But yeah, it's what I've always used.
06:44So we just dropped our record, Keep It Quiet, now on every platform possible.
06:50We got like four or five shows left on this tour.
06:53Come check it out.
06:53We're going to have probably some announcements soon for future tours coming up in the spring.
06:59So yeah, be on the lookout.
07:03We're going to have a look at the next tour.
