En 1970, la compétition Miss Monde prend place à Londres. La cérémonie est animée par une légende de la comédie américaine : Bob Hope, un homme au comportement misogyne. Regardé en direct par plus de cent millions de téléspectateurs à travers le monde, le concours de beauté prend une tournure inattendue et politique. En effet, le mouvement de libération des femmes, qui considère ce concours comme sexiste, décide d'investir la scène. Une action "coup de poing" qui ne sera pas sans conséquences sur l'histoire du concours, tandis que pour la première fois, une femme noire, Miss Grenade, pourrait remporter le titre...
