00:00Rodeo FX began in a small basement in Montreal with just a few artists. Over
00:12the years, the studio steadily grew into one of the world's leading visual effects companies.
00:17Based in Quebec, Rodeo FX combines French creativity with North American scale.
00:47Working on major international productions for film, television and streaming platforms.
00:53That's why I say it's because in Quebec, we speak French. We have the European side but also North American.
01:04The studio's list of past projects includes major hits, including titles from Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible.
01:22But Stranger Things, the science fiction and horror series that has shattered streaming
01:28record since its debut in 2016, is a highlight.
01:32Rodeo FX worked on seasons 4 and 5 of the Netflix show that follows a group of teenagers in a small town,
01:39America, as they take on supernatural creatures and a parallel universe.
01:55Philip Harris Genners, a 3D modeler at Rodeo FX, worked tirelessly for a year to perfect Demogrogon,
02:03the monster whose pettled face opens to reveal rows of menacing teeth.
02:08What's the fun of our industry is that we can do everything. So we can touch on anything.
02:21There we've spent 1 year on this creation-like, Spike Gore, and the next show was a Christmas show for animals.
02:28The studio creates a wide range of visual effects, from digital creatures and environments to large-scale action sequences.
02:46We do visual effects for the episodic series, TV or streaming, and films for the cinema.
02:56We do visual effects that create creatures, decorations, explosions, etc.
03:07Nature often inspires their work, including the design of the Imperial Palace for Dune Prophecy, which is due from Mediterranean landscapes.
03:25In Dune, for example, we created the Imperial Palace, which was supposed to happen in a tempered place.
03:32So we thought that it could be a place like the Mediterranean coast.
03:36So we did research about vegetation.
03:38We were looking for what type of trees there is near the Mediterranean coast, what type of trees.
03:43So it really depends on the projects.
03:45Turning a concept into a finished product is time-consuming work that involves animation, simulation, lighting, and integrating that effects in a sequence filmed with live actors.
03:56It's true that we spend a lot of time on our projects. The season 4 was more than two years of work.
04:01We often take the projects for a year, a year and a half.
04:06So it's true that it becomes very personal.
04:10We put a lot of love. We, artists, everyone put a lot of love in it.
04:15Among the studio's major achievements is its work on the 2014 best picture Birdman,
04:20where visual effects created the impression of the film being shot in a single take.
04:25Rodeo FX has also earned four nominations at the VES Awards,
04:30which honor the visual effects industry in a ceremony set for February 25.
04:35three-time loss withinger filters.
