His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on Saturday (Jan 31) graced the completion of Phase 1 of the conservation of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building (BSAS) along Jalan Raja, Kuala Lumpur.

The historic ceremony marked the opening of Block 1 of the iconic BSAS Complex, following the completion of 11 months of conservation and preservation works carried out under the Warisan Khazanah Fund programme, an initiative of Warisan Kuala Lumpur.

00:19His Majesty arrived at about 10 a.m. and was welcomed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
00:25Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri, Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi,
00:31Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fazil, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tansri Shamsul Azri Abubakar.
00:39The historic ceremony marked the opening of Block 1 of the iconic Sultan Abdul Samad building complex
00:46following the completion of 11 months of conservation and preservation works
00:51carried out under the Warisan Kazana Fund program.
00:54The building was originally known as the Secretariat building and served as the administrative center
01:00of the nation before being renamed the Sultan Abdul Samad building.
01:05It has borne witness to many significant moments in the nation's history,
01:09including the lowering of the Union Jack and the first hoisting of the Federation of Malaya flag
01:15in 1957 at the area now known as Dataran Merdeka.
01:19The building also witnessed the proclamation of Kuala Lumpur as a city in 1972 and later as a federal territory in 1974.
01:30The conservation of Sultan Abdul Samad building Block 1 marks the first completed phase of a comprehensive effort
01:38to preserve the complex, maintaining its status as a Category 1 national heritage site.
01:43Visitors will be able to enjoy a range of facilities at the building,
01:48including exhibition spaces, interactive galleries, and a one-stop visitor information center.
01:54Sultan Abdul Samad building Block 1 will be open to the public on February 2nd,
02:00with the galleries open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
02:04To commemorate the opening, admission to the Kuala Lumpur Gallery at Dataran Merdeka will be free for the first month,
