00:00Despite the tens of thousands of restaurants in New York, everybody's different.
00:06Everybody has their own little place.
00:09People gather for reasons, for weddings, for holidays, and they're needed.
00:15Well, institutions are New York.
00:19It's a place filled with the exceptional.
00:21We all come here to make it.
00:23Some people decide it's not worth the price, and they go to Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.
00:30The only thing in Gino was good food.
00:33Atmosphere, people are happy.
00:36There were always people waiting to get in, and it was always exciting.
00:39We went there every time we could.
00:41It was a club, and everybody knew each other.
00:44It was a family, in a very unusual sense of the word.
00:47Gino always said that. He wanted them to feel like they were home.
00:50The guy that died, he told them,
00:52cremate me and throw my ashes in the front of Gino.
00:56Could you believe that?
00:58The decor was extremely basic.
01:01It was the wallpaper, and that was it.
01:03Ah, the wallpaper.
01:04It was wonderful.
01:05When you say Gino, ooh, the one with the zebras.
01:11It's a quarter after ten, and half the dining room's empty.
01:13What's in this restaurant look like right now?
01:15Full.
01:16Full.
01:17I have lived above the restaurant since 2000.
01:21And I've lost a lot of sleep, wondering how we're going to survive.
01:25We have to change ourselves, and we can't do it halfway.
01:28In doing research for the renovation, the zebras popped up.
01:31A restaurant?
01:32Putting Gino's wallpaper in?
01:34It's outrageous.
01:35That's ridiculous.
01:36That's...
01:37That's...
01:38Well, that's terrible.
01:42We are not trying to be Gino's, but I'm sure there's going to be a lot of people that are going to be happy about it.
01:48I'd rip it down.
01:49I'd rip it down.
01:50You're pescatore.
01:51You're not Gino's.
01:52There's no relationship.
01:53There's absolutely no connection.
01:57You cannot build another Gino.
01:59It's a little plagiaristic.
02:01Those of us loyal to Gino's wouldn't put our foot in the place.
02:05I think we've earned the right to try to do anything that we need to do.
02:10Yeah, I'm definitely scared.
02:11If I lose a restaurant, I lose my home.
02:14This is an opportunity.
02:15Will it work?
02:16I don't know.
02:17Our food is excellent.
02:19Our service is excellent.
02:20But we're missing that one thing where people will remember us.
02:26If it fails, I think we're all going to be looking for work.
