Smart, electric and autonomous: welcome onboard the ultimate ‘last-mile’ shuttle bus

It can see and understand what’s around it. Its developers claim it is a ‘game-changer’ to improve transportation in jammed city centers. Designed and manufactured in the European Union, MiCa has already self-driven in 17 countries in Europe but also in Japan, the United Arab Emirates and the U.S.

00:00You
00:05The vehicle always sees.
00:10Safety for us is not number one.
00:12It starts with zero.
00:14Last mile out.
00:15Autonomous vehicles are the base point which can make transport more efficient.
00:20We, as Europeans, should not be late to the game.
00:25As you can see, an electric vehicle vehicle came to our streets.
00:30Un concentrado de alta tecnología fabricado en la Unión Europea.
00:40Un extraño vehículo.
00:44Un extraño vehículo.
00:45Un extraño vehículo.
00:45Because of the heat passer.
00:46Se le llama Mika porque tiene capacidad.
00:48El
01:01Vical.
01:03El
01:07Vica.
01:08different kind of sensors. We have LiDAR, basically a laser 300...
01:13160-degree scanner, also cameras.
01:18.
01:23When the vehicle understands what's around it, then it's able to
01:28see where the road is, see where the possible objects are moving, where the cross
01:33walk is, where the intersection is, and based on that and the next bus stop.
01:38It's going, it's able to plan a path for its route.
01:43The factory has received permission to reach the road to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the left.
01:48in the international airport of Tallinn.
01:53Aseguran que el vehículo podría transportar aquí al personal de mantenimiento en triángulo
01:58y se agregaron a veces 24 horas al día, 7 días a la semana, de forma rentable.
02:03Durante las pruebas, los prototipos autónomos...
02:08...corrieron aquí 2.150 kilómetros y transportaron a 215 pasajeros.
02:43...safety comes first at every point.
02:46So, when we have been practicado...
02:48...over here around 2 years now...
02:50...we have encountered that every aspect that...
02:53...we are developing inside of the airports...
02:56...are considered looking...
02:58...through the safety prism as well.
03:03The company was founded in 2000...
03:08...2018 en colaboración con la Universidad Tecnológica de Tallinn.
03:13Los vehículos han operado en 17 países...
03:15...incluyendo varios Europa...
03:17...además de Jaure...
03:18...Japón, Estados Unidos, Israel, Arabia Saudí...
03:21...y Emiratos Árabes Unidos.
03:23Co-financiada por la UE, la compañía...
03:28...dice ofrecer un servicio integral...
03:30...que incluye vehículos autónomos...
03:31...su adecuación a diversos entornos...
03:33...y la gestión de flotas.
03:35Los directivos describen su producto...
03:36...como la lanzadera autónoma...
03:38...más compacta y flexible del mundo...
03:40...capaz de adaptarse a la infraestructura existente.
03:43Not only in Europe, but globally...
03:45...there's too many cars in traffic...
03:47...and we need...
03:48...to find ways...
03:49...how to get more people...
03:50...to use public transportation.
03:53...y border on the standards...
03:55... Visa y veilá...
03:56...ay maxillido...
03:57...so which...
03:58...a theory is that is not that...
03:59the decision is for...
04:00...a theory...
04:02...uyor Hadi gubbar...
04:03...decuit cos...
04:05This last mile, literally.
04:10For us, the flexible transport is that people can really choose in this.
04:15In certain areas, whenever they want to get to the bus station, they can...
04:20They can really order the service.
04:23It really makes sense also as a cost-wise.
04:25And then you would have this quick connection between certain metropole areas.
04:30To get there.
04:33Mika acaba de ser significant.
04:35The main improvements are supported in a new software alimentary.
04:40For learning automatic and analysis of real data.
04:44Its new capabilities are developed.
04:45Its new capabilities include the dynamic reaction to objects based on artificial intelligence,
04:50as well as...
04:50such as the detection of advancements and the detection of lateral.
04:55We are trying to implement human behaviour and human...
05:00sensorings in the vehicle itself.
05:02So, we have AI-based object detection.
05:05that classifies everything around the vehicle and predicts their possible...
05:10paths.
05:11And from that, the vehicle knows what's the surrounding environment.
05:15around it.
05:16And then it behaves according to the rules and planning modules that...
05:20we have set up.
05:25The vehicles are manufactured here in Estonia, one of the epicentros...
05:30digitales of Europe.
05:31One unit can be assembled in a week.
05:35The employees say that no externalize the production...
05:38seeks to guarantee the quality of the production.
05:40It is needed to control all the processes and manage the risk of fabrication.
05:45One of the vehicles is like electronics, sensorics, computers...
05:48and the main challenge is to incorporate.
05:50the mechanical side, the electrical side, and also the software side.
05:54So, we have to bring...
05:55like three pillars together.
05:56We have like three pillars together.
05:57Like three pillars back together.
06:34Concluyen los directivos.
06:35The biggest challenge is regulation.
06:39In theory, we have one European Union, but in practice we have 26.
06:4427 different regulations.
06:46Some regulators are very open to innovation.
06:49Some regulators are very careful.
06:55At the moment, Europe overall it has...
06:58been really stuck in this process.
07:00I think there are multiple things in there.
07:03First thing, many of the projects with autonomous vehicles, they are joined with the...
07:08different EU funded projects and many times they are really a large consortium.
07:13systems consisting of many members.
07:17And...
07:19This has been really a focus point on...
07:21on where to invest in the autonomous vehicle.
07:24So for us in the last couple of years, the market in Europe has been quite small.
07:29There are also, I think, many restraints in the bureaucracy and getting the visa.
07:34The biggest competitors come from China.
07:39And of course, as a proud European, I see that we, as Europeans, should be able to do this.
07:44Do not be late to the game.
