Rodney Marsh 31 off 77 Balls 90 Mins 3 Fours vs Pakistan 3rd Test at MCG First Innings in Dec 1981
Transcript
00:00Iqbal Kazim to Marsh.
00:05Marsh drives, good shot, beautiful shot, down the wicket he comes, that's driven back down the ground through the mid-on area for four.
00:13And those strong arms of his coming to play there, the minute he hit that, that was four.
00:19That was beautifully struck from the onside, really a thunderous on-drive for four.
00:24And he really gave that all he had, and with those arms he has plenty.
00:34Safras to Rodney Marsh.
00:41It's played well by Marsh, he's very good on that leg stump, and I think that is reflected by that shot, the ball pitching just outside leg and flicked away for three.
00:54Tim Ryder bowls now to Rodney Marsh.
01:06Four runs, there's a shot of catcher there.
01:12Pretty obvious comment to make because Marsh certainly hit it, didn't hit it all that well.
01:17And again, the sweep, almost bringing the downfall of the batsman.
01:26Oh dear, we've seen some rather ambitious sweeps.
01:31The ball outside the leg stump, and possibly there to be swept.
01:36The bounce making it difficult.
01:37That's a really good stroke.
01:45It's the best stroke Rodney Marsh has played today.
01:47Takes him on to 30.
01:52And he's now 6-2-82.
01:58Imran Khan now to Rodney Marsh, and I reckon Imran will remember this ball for many a long day.
02:04And Marsh is out, caught at short leg, inside edge, onto the pad.
02:16And it seems to me that Imran and the others went up for LBW.
02:21Well, let's look at Mudassa's reaction here.
02:23There was an inside edge, you saw the deflection.
02:25Mudassa had absolutely no idea.
02:27He picks that ball up extremely well, and what a good short leg fieldman he is.
02:30And it has made Imran Khan the leading wicket-taker in the history of test matches for Pakistan.
02:38At one wicket, Rodney Marsh has done two things.
02:42It has made it very difficult for Australia now to save the follow-on.
02:46There's still 13 runs in arrears of that figure.
02:49And now it has also put Imran Khan at the top of that list.
02:53140 wickets for Pakistan in 36 test matches.
02:59He's now 1 ahead of Faisal Mahmood, 10 ahead of Safraz Nawaz, and 15 ahead of Indikab Alam.
03:08Imran certainly, I think, was appealing for LBW, but Mudassa, after completing the catch, looked around in complete mystification.
03:15It was a very good catch.
