00:01Following the tragedy in Basilan that took the lives of 19 individuals, an emergency management expert shared four main reasons why marine vessels sink.
00:10Our Gav Villegas details in this report the survival tips in the event of such situations.
00:17Yesterday when the Roro MV Cresha Kirstin 3 sinks in the waters of Basilan with almost 350 people on the said Roro.
00:25At the latest count, the number of those who have been reported dead rising to 19 while 24 are still being searched.
00:33According to emergency management expert Dr. Ted Esguera, there are four main reasons why marine vessels sink.
00:39First there is the seaworthiness of the ship.
00:42Second is the internal safety induction which marine vessels are obliged to have a type 8 personal flotation device.
01:00Kasi dapat pag sinunod mo yung type, merong adult, halos one size fits all.
01:05Merong mga extra large for extra for bariatrics, merong pang bata.
01:16The third factor is the internal agreement which applies when there is overload in the payload of sea vehicles.
01:23This is not new.
01:32And the last is the weather condition. In this situation, what should be done especially by people who cannot swim?
01:38According to Dr. Ted, the flotation device should be correctly worn when boarding a boat or ship.
01:44Paano tayo mag-survive is dependent sa weather of the day.
Tapos yung katawan yun, nakaganon.
02:13Dikit ang katawan. Para, ang tawag po dyan ay HELP. H-E-L-P. Heat Emission Lessening Posture.
02:21Dr. Ted also advised that when in the middle of the sea, one should find debris that can be dumped.
02:27Maghanap ka ng debris na masambaan mo sila. Kasi in time, pag malakas ng alon, bibitaw at bibitaw so you will consume lots of effort.
02:35You should also not go against the flow of the waves.
02:38As much as possible, alalay ka lang, sumabay ka lang sa drip. Kasi pagkontrahin mo yan, ubusin ka niya.
02:45So, hayaan mo mag-drip. Halimbawa, yun yung destination ko. Ang drip ko, nasa right ko.
02:51So, ang style of swimming ko is 45.
03:00So, dito. So, hayaan ko lang siya. Tapos alalay lang. Alalay na swim. Huwag kang mag-aggressive.
03:07Swim ka lang. Mag-float. Kasi mag-float ka naman eh. Gamitin mo yung paa.
03:13Ando. Huwag kang masyadong magsigisigaw. Kasi mag-e-exhaust ka.
03:16When you see a person or a boat in the distance, wave slowly.
03:21Ang kaway mo is pahinga.
03:24Grift ka ulit. Alin. Swim. Tapos, pahinga. Kaway.
03:28Pag nag-kaway, pwedeng dalawang tao.
03:30Halimbawa, sampo tayo. Dalawa lang. Okay, tayong dalawa lang ka kaway.
03:33Yung iba, sige, tulak lang tayo. Usad.
03:36Pag may lumayo, bata, lagay sa gitna. Grift tayo. Dalawa lang ka kaway.
03:41Ganyan ang style. Hindi pwedeng lahat. Hindi pwedeng sumigaw because no one can hear you.
03:48Namamatayin tao because of exhaustion.
03:50Dr. Ted also shared the personal locator beacon or PLB can be cheaply bought with a feature that sends an emergency SOS signal via satellite to search and rescue teams and authorities.
04:02He also has suggestions to the public to further prevent casualties in sea accidents.
