00:00In the meantime, the Department of Transportation has suspended the operations of the entire passenger fleet
00:05of the shipping company that owns the sunken MV Trisha Kirsten 3 in Basilan.
00:10The government will conduct a full-blown investigation to determine the cause of the incident
00:15and to establish the possible liabilities of the concerned government agencies and the shipping line involved.
00:22I have this report gathered by our Bernard Ferrer.
00:24Search and rescue operations are ongoing for 10 individuals reported missing
00:31after the passenger cargo vessel MV Trisha Kirsten 3 sank in the waters of Basilan.
00:38Among those still missing are eight crew members, the ship's captain and one Coast Guard marshal.
00:43The Philippine Coast Guard, or PCG, has deployed 16 technical divers to assist in the operation.
00:48The PCG will also send its remotely operated vehicle, or ROV, to conduct a deeper assessment of the incident site.
00:56Based on the latest PCG records, a total of 317 passengers and 27 crew members were rescued,
01:03while 18 fatalities have been confirmed, including an infant.
01:07Department of Transportation, or DOT, Secretary Giovanni Lopez conveyed the condolences
01:11of President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr. to the families of the victims.
01:15The Secretary has also directed the Maritime Industry Authority, or MARINA,
01:20to prioritize the immediate processing of the insurance claims of those affected by the incident.
01:25The DOT are further instructed MARINA to submit a maritime safety audit covering all domestic fleets nationwide.
01:33All passenger vessels of Allison's shipping line, the owner of the sunken MV Trisha Kirsten 3, have been grounded.
