Seven people were killed and one crew member critically injured when a private jet crashed during takeoff at Maine’s Bangor International Airport. The Bombardier Challenger went down around 7:45 p.m. while attempting departure, sending thick smoke billowing over the runway as emergency crews rushed to the scene.

Flight data shows the jet had arrived from Houston and flipped upside down less than a minute after takeoff clearance before erupting in flames. Air traffic control audio captured the chaos, with controllers urgently reporting an “aircraft upside down” moments after the failed departure. Investigators are examining the cause.
