00:00Well, it's been in the works since the Gaza ceasefire was announced back in October.
00:06Now we know a bit more about what it looks like and how it will operate.
00:11The Board of Peace brings together dozens of world leaders,
00:14not just, though, to cement the Gaza truce,
00:18but also to oversee broader conflicts and global challenges.
00:22Countries will need to pay $1 billion to maintain a permanent seat.
00:28That price tag, the inclusion of certain countries
00:31and the expanded remit of the Board, has raised concerns in some corners.
00:37Kieran, let's start with you.
00:39Is the Board of Peace going to be a key step in ensuring Middle East stability?
00:45Or is this a vanity project?
00:47I think it's far worse than a vanity project.
00:49I think it's very clearly a colonial members' club.
00:53And from the perspective of Palestinians, which perhaps the other side doesn't take into account,
01:00but from the perspective of Palestinians,
01:03you might as well entrust your children with a ravenous alligator.
01:09There are several wanted war criminals in this Board of Peace,
01:15wanted war criminals, including among them Vladimir Putin.
01:18There is virtually no Palestinian representation at all.
01:25And there are people like Tony Blair who have obviously a dire reputation in the region.
01:32He started or helped start a little thing called the War in Iraq some 22 years ago, 23 years ago,
01:38which is estimated to have killed around a million people.
01:40So why any sane person, let alone Palestinian, let's say sane person,
01:47and maybe Jonathan is going to give us the insane account here,
01:51but any sane person think that this is going to be anything other than a colonial carve-up
01:57that forces Palestinians to accept enormous injustice?
02:04We've just lived through a genocide in Gaza.
02:07Now, I know that Jonathan disputes that thing, but Jonathan and I have met before.
02:11But he is in a chorus all on his own,
02:16unless you count every other Israeli spokesperson or Israeli.
02:20Every single impartial observer who is an expert in genocide,
02:25including, by the way, many Israeli experts in genocide and Holocaust studies,
02:31say that what has happened in Gaza is a genocide,
02:34is a very clear-cut genocide.
02:36And what you're asking people in Palestine or in Gaza to do is down the barrel of a gun
02:42with their hands, those of them that are left, by the way,
02:45because there are more amputees in Gaza than anywhere else in the world per capita,
02:50asking people with their arms twisted behind their backs with a barrel of a gun to their foreheads
02:55to accept that the people that committed genocide against them
02:59are now going to preside over their peace.
03:02It is, it would be, utterly risible and ridiculous to the point of hilarity
03:07if it were not so utterly, utterly shameful and vile.
