Three horses died within 40 days at the Haveri Zoo, allegedly due to the owners feeding them an unnatural diet of eggs and dry fruits, which are unsuitable for herbivores. The first horse, named Cadium, died on December 12, followed by another on January 21. The third horse died within two months. The veterinarian, Suresh, warned that feeding horses dry fruits, eggs, and other protein-rich foods can lead to issues like bloating, constipation, and other digestive problems. He advised feeding horses a proper herbivore diet of grass and hay, and not human foods like milk, fruits, or eggs, which can cause health issues. The zoo authorities have been cautioned about providing an appropriate diet to maintain the horses' health.
