00:00Good morning, everyone.
00:02You know, I've been thinking a lot lately about this idea that somehow,
00:06if we just wish hard enough, if we just visualize it clearly enough,
00:10success will fall into our laps like rain from the sky.
00:15And I'm here to tell you today that's not how this works.
00:18That's not how any of this works.
00:20Success is earned.
00:22It's earned in the quiet hours when nobody's watching.
00:25It's earned in the moments when you want to quit but you don't.
00:28It's earned through the setbacks that break your heart.
00:31But somehow, somehow, someway, you find the strength to get back up.
00:36I grew up in circumstances that nobody would call privileged.
00:40There were times when I wore dresses made from potato sacks.
00:45Times when I didn't know if I belonged anywhere in this world.
00:49But somewhere along the way, I learned something powerful.
00:52Your circumstances don't define your destiny.
00:55Your response to those circumstances does.
00:57See, earning success means understanding that every single person in this room has been given something precious.
01:05Not a guarantee, not a promise, but a possibility.
01:08And what you do with that possibility is entirely up to you.
01:12Nobody can do your push-ups for you.
01:15Nobody can study for your exam.
01:17Nobody can show up to your life and do the work that only you can do.
01:20I want to talk to you about what it really means to earn something.
01:26When you earn something, you own it completely.
01:29There's no asterisk next to it.
01:31There's no fine print that says, but they had help or, but it was handed to them.
01:36When you earn it, it's yours.
01:38And more importantly, you know you're capable of earning it again.
01:41Think about the people you truly admire.
01:45I mean, really admire.
01:47Not the ones who inherited their position or their wealth.
01:51I'm talking about the ones who built something from nothing.
01:54The ones who failed and failed again, but kept going.
01:58The ones who were told no a thousand times, but still believed in themselves enough to keep knocking on doors until one finally opened.
02:06Those people understood something fundamental.
02:09Success isn't a destination where you arrive and then you're done.
02:13Success is a process.
02:15It's a daily commitment to being better than you were yesterday.
02:20It's about showing up even when you don't feel like it.
02:23It's about doing the right thing even when no one will ever know.
02:27It's about integrity when it costs you something.
02:30Now, I'm not going to stand here and tell you it's easy.
02:33Anyone who tells you that is selling you something.
02:37Earning your success is hard.
02:39It's lonely sometimes.
02:41There will be mornings when you wake up and wonder if it's worth it.
02:45There will be people who doubt you.
02:47Sometimes people you love.
02:49There will be failures that sting so badly you'll want to crawl under the covers and never come out.
02:56But here's what I know for sure.
02:57Every challenge you face is either preparing you or teaching you.
03:03Every closed door is redirecting you to the one that's meant to open.
03:06Every no you hear is simply clearing the path to your highs.
03:10When you earn your success, you develop something that cannot be bought, borrowed, or given to you, you develop character.
03:18You develop resilience.
03:20You develop an unshakable knowing that you can handle whatever life throws at you.
03:25Because you've already proven to yourself that you can.
03:29I've watched people who were given everything struggle to find meaning in their lives.
03:35And I've watched people who started with nothing-build empires.
03:38Not just of money, but of influence, of purpose, of legacy.
03:43The difference.
03:44The ones who earned it knew their worth because they had proven it to themselves every single day.
03:49So, I want to challenge you today.
03:53I want you to stop waiting for someone to give you permission to be great.
03:57Stop waiting for the perfect moment.
04:00Stop waiting for someone to hand you the opportunity you think you deserve.
04:04Instead, create it.
04:06Earn it.
04:06Work for it with everything you have.
04:07Your education.
04:09Earn it.
04:10Don't just show up.
04:12Engage, question, grow, absorb everything you can.
04:15Your reputation.
04:15Earn it by being someone whose word means something.
04:18Someone who shows up.
04:20Someone who does what they say they're going to do.
04:23Your dreams.
04:25Earn them by taking one small step toward them and every single day.
04:29Even when that step feels insignificant.
04:32And when you finally achieve what you've been working toward.
04:35When you stand in that moment of triumph.
04:38You'll know something that no one can ever take away from you.
04:43You'll know that you earned it.
04:45You'll know that you're capable.
04:47You'll know that you can do hard things.
04:49And that knowledge will carry you through every challenge that comes after.
04:54Because here's the beautiful truth.
04:56When success is earned.
04:58It's not just about what you achieve.
05:00It's about who you become in the process of achieving it.
05:03So go out there and earn it.
05:05Earn it.
05:06Earn your place.
05:07Earn your success.
05:09Earn your joy.
05:10Earn the life you dream about.
05:11Not because anyone owes it to you.
05:14But because you owe it to yourself.
05:17You know what I've learned through all my years of living and working and striving.
05:22I've learned that where you start in life has almost nothing to do with where you finish.
05:27I've seen people born into wealth and privilege squander every opportunity they were given.
05:34And I've seen people born into poverty and hardship rise to heights nobody thought possible.
05:39The difference between these two groups has nothing to do with their starting point and everything to do with how they chose to respond to their circumstances.
05:48When I look back at my own journey, I don't see a straight line from point A to point B.
05:56I see a winding road full of obstacles and detours and moments when I honestly didn't know if I could take another step forward.
06:04There were nights when I went to bed hungry.
06:07There were years when I felt invisible like I didn't matter to anyone in this world.
06:12There were people who told me I wasn't good enough, smart enough, or worthy enough to dream the dreams I was dreaming.
06:20And you know what?
06:21I could have let those circumstances define me.
06:24I could have looked at where I came from and decided that my zip code or my family's bank account or the color of my skin meant I had no business aspiring anything greater.
06:35But somewhere deep inside me, there was this voice that kept saying your circumstances are not your identity.
06:42Your past is not your future.
06:44Where you are right now is simply where you are right now and nothing more.
06:49That voice kept reminding me that I had a choice in how I responded to everything life threw at me.
06:56I could choose bitterness or I could choose determination.
06:59I could choose to be a victim of my circumstances or I could choose to be the architect of my own life.
07:06Here's what most people don't understand about circumstances.
07:10They're temporary.
07:11They're situational.
07:12They're external.
07:13But your response to those circumstances, that's internal.
07:17That's permanent.
07:18That's what shapes your character and your trajectory and ultimately your destiny.
07:24We vent.
07:24You see, we don't get to choose the family we're born into or the neighborhood we grow up in or the challenges that come our way in childhood.
07:33We don't get to decide if our parents stay together or if there's money for college or if we start life with advantages or disadvantages.
07:42Those things are given to us by fate or chance or whatever you want to call it.
07:47But here's the powerful truth that changes everything.
07:50We absolutely get to choose how we respond.
07:52We get to choose whether we let our circumstances harden us or strengthen us.
07:58We get to choose whether we use our struggles as excuses or as fuel.
08:03We get to choose whether we see obstacles as stop signs or as stepping stones.
08:08And that choice, that daily moment by moment choice to respond with courage, courage and determination and hope even when everything around you says you should give up.
08:18That's what defines your destiny.
08:20I think about all the people throughout history who could have let their circumstances crush them.
08:27People who faced discrimination and poverty and loss and still rose up to change the world.
08:33They didn't have better circumstances than you or me.
08:36In many cases, they had far worse circumstances.
08:39But they had something more powerful than perfect conditions.
08:42They had the audacity to believe that their response mattered more than their reality.
08:48They had the courage to work harder, to dream bigger, and to refuse to let their starting point determine their ending point.
08:56So when you're facing your own difficult circumstances right now, and I know every single person room in this room is dealing with something, I want you to remember this.
09:07Those circumstances don't have the final say in your story.
09:11You do.
09:12Your response is your power.
09:14Your attitude is your advantage.
09:15Your determination is your destiny.
09:18Don't let where you come from limit where you're going.
09:22Don't let what happened to you determine what happens for you.
09:25Take responsibility for your response and watch how that changes absolutely everything.
09:31There's a hard truth I need to share with you today, and it's one that our culture doesn't always want to hear.
09:38In a world where we can order anything we want with the click a button and have it delivered to our doorstep within hours,
09:47we've started to believe that everything in life should work that way.
09:51We think success should be fast and easy and available on demand, but let me tell you something that will save you years of frustration and disappointment.
10:01Nobody can do your push-ups for you.
10:03Nobody can study for your exam.
10:06Nobody can show up to your life and do the work that only you can do.
10:10I learned this lesson early, and I learned it the hard way.
10:15There were times when I desperately wanted someone to rescue me.
10:18There were times when I thought if only someone would give me a chance or open a door or make things easier, then I could finally succeed.
10:26And you know what?
10:27Sometimes people did help me.
10:30Sometimes doors did open.
10:31But here's what I discovered.
10:33Even when someone opens a door for you, even when someone gives you an opportunity, you still have to walk through that door yourself.
10:41You still have to do the work once you're on the other side.
10:45Nobody can do that part for you.
10:48Think about it this way.
10:49If you want to get physically stronger, you have to lift the weights yourself.
10:54Your trainer can show you proper form.
10:56Your friend can encourage you from the sidelines.
10:59Your family can believe in you and support you.
11:02But when it comes to actually picking up that weight and pushing through and showing the burn-up day after day to build that muscle,
11:09that's all you.
11:12There's no shortcut.
11:14There's no substitute.
11:16There's no one who can do those reps for you and have the results show up on your body.
11:21The same is true for every single goal you have in life.
11:25If you want to get educated, you have to read the books yourself.
11:28You have to take the notes and ask the questions and struggle with the concepts until they finally click in your mind.
11:36Your teacher can present the material, but they can't download it directly into your brain.
11:42You have to do the mental work of learning and understanding and applying what you've learned.
11:48If you want to build a business, you have to make the calls and take the risks and learn from your failures.
11:55We vent.
11:56If you want to develop a skill you have to practice, even when it's boring and frustrating and you feel like you're not making any progress.
12:04Here's what happens when we don't understand this principle.
12:08We start looking for someone to save us.
12:11We start blaming other people when things don't work out.
12:14We say things like, if only my boss would recognize my talent, or if only I had the right connections, or if only someone would give me a break.
12:23We then, and while external support and opportunities definitely matter, while mentors and advocates and open doors are valuable, the fundamental work of becoming successful.
12:34That can only be done by you.
12:36This isn't meant to discourage you.
12:38Actually, it's meant to empower you.
12:40Because when you truly understand that nobody can do your work for you, you stop waiting, you stop making excuses, you stop looking around for someone to hand you what you want.
12:52Instead, you realize that you have everything you need right now to start.
12:57You have your two hands and your mind and your will and your time.
13:00You have the ability to take action today, right now, this very moment.
13:05So ask yourself this question, what work am I waiting for someone else to do for me?
13:11What responsibility am I avoiding?
13:13What action am I postponing because I'm hoping someone will make it easier or do it for me?
13:19Whatever that thing is, I'm telling you right now that it's time to step up and do it yourself.
13:25Your success is waiting for you, but it's waiting on the other side of the work that only you can do.
13:32I want to talk to you about ownership because there's something magical that happens when you earn something versus when it's given to you.
13:40When something is handed to you, there's always this underlying question in your mind.
13:45Do I really deserve this?
13:47Am I actually capable?
13:49Would I have gotten this on my own?
13:51But when you earn something, when you fight for it and sacrifice for it and work until your hands are tired and your mind is exhausted, there's no question mark.
14:02You know beyond any shadow of doubt that you deserve it because you paid the price for it.
14:08Let me tell you what that feels like.
14:10When you earn your success, you wake up in the morning with a different kind of confidence.
14:15It's not arrogance.
14:17It's not false bravado.
14:18It's a quiet, steady knowing that lives deep in your bones.
14:23It's the knowledge that you can handle hard things, things because you've already handled them.
14:28It's the certainty that you can overcome obstacles because you've already overcome them.
14:34Nobody can take that away from you.
14:36Nobody can diminish it or question it or put an asterisk next to it.
14:40Think about the difference between inheriting a fortune and building one.
14:45The person who inherits wealth might have all the material comforts, but they often struggle with questions of identity and purpose.
14:54They wonder if people respect them for who they are or just for what they have.
14:59We vent.
14:59They question whether they're capable of creating anything meaningful on their own.
15:05But the person who builds their wealth from the ground up, they know exactly what they're capable of.
15:11They've proven it to themselves through years of effort and persistence and creative problem solving.
15:17That knowledge becomes part of their identity in a way that inherited success never can.
15:23The same principle applies to everything in life.
15:26When you earn your education by studying late into the night and pushing through difficult subjects and refusing to give up when concepts don't come easily, you own that knowledge completely.
15:38It's integrated into who you are.
15:41It's changed the way you think and see the world.
15:44But if you cheat your way through or have someone else do your work, you might, you might get the degree, but you don't get the education.
15:52You don't get the transformation.
15:55You don't get the ownership event.
15:56When you earn respect in your workplace by consistently delivering excellent work and treating people well and solving problems creatively, that respect is solid.
16:06People know you've proven yourself.
16:09They've seen your character in action.
16:12They trust you because you've demonstrated over time that you're trustworthy.
16:16But if you try to demand respect or manipulate your way into it or rely solely on your title or position, it's fragile.
16:24It's conditional.
16:25It can disappear the moment you make a mistake or show weakness.
16:29Here's another beautiful thing about earned success.
16:33When you own it completely, you know you can do it again.
16:36You're not dependent on luck or on someone else's generosity or on being in the right place at the right time.
16:43You've developed the skills and the mindset and the work ethic that created your success in the first place.
16:50So, if you lose everything tomorrow, if you have to start over from zero, you know you have what it takes to build it back up again.
16:58That's power.
17:00That's freedom.
17:01That's security that no one can take from you.
17:03I've met people who were given everything and I've watched them live in constant fear of losing it because they don't believe they could recreate it.
17:13And I've met people who started with nothing and built something extraordinary and they walk through life with their heads held high because they know their worth.
17:23They've proven it to themselves every single day.
17:27That's the difference between receiving and achieving.
17:30That's the difference between having something and owning something.
17:34When you earn it, it's yours completely and that changes everything.
17:39I need to tell you something that might change the way you think about success entirely.
17:44We've been sold this lie that success is a finish line.
17:48We think if we can just get that degree or land that job or reach that income level or achieve that recognition, then we'll have arrived.
17:57Then we'll be successful.
17:59Then we can finally relax and coast.
18:01But that's not how this works.
18:04Success isn't a destination where you plant your flag and say, I made it and now I'm done, done.
18:09Success is a process.
18:11It's a daily practice.
18:12It's a commitment you make to yourself every single morning when your feet hit the floor.
18:18Think about the most successful people you know.
18:21I mean, truly successful, not just wealthy or famous, but people who are living lives of purpose and impact and fulfillment.
18:29Are they sitting back on their laurels?
18:31Are they resting on past achievements?
18:33No.
18:35They're still growing.
18:36They're still learning.
18:37They're still pushing themselves to be better than they were yesterday.
18:42Because they understand, when you stop, the moment you start dying.
18:46The moment you think you've arrived, you've actually started the journey backward.
18:52I've had moments in my career where I achieved things I once thought were impossible.
18:58Moments where I could have said, okay, I've made it, and now I can just maintain what I've built.
19:03But every single time I reached one of those milestones, I discovered something profound.
19:08The achievement itself wasn't what brought lasting fulfillment.
19:13What brought fulfillment was the person I became in the process of achieving it.
19:18It was the discipline I developed.
19:21It was the resilience I built.
19:23It was the lessons I learned through the struggles and the setbacks.
19:27And here's the thing about becoming that kind of person.
19:30You can't turn it off.
19:32You don't want to turn it off.
19:33You want to keep growing because growth is what makes you feel alive.
19:38This is why success requires daily commitment.
19:42You can't work hard for a month and then coast for six months and expect to maintain your success,
19:48let alone grow it.
19:49You can't show up with excellence one day and then phone it in the next three days.
19:55Success is built through consistent daily choices that might seem small and insignificant
20:00in the moment, but compound over time into extraordinary results.
20:05It's choosing to get up early when you could sleep in.
20:08It's choosing to do the work even when you don't feel motivated.
20:12It's choosing to be excellent when no one's watching and when there's no immediate reward
20:18for your effort.
20:20Let me tell you what this looks like in practical terms.
20:22It means you don't get to say, I already learned that or I already know how to do that and
20:28use AZIT as an excuse to stop developing.
20:31The world is changing constantly.
20:34Your industry is evolving.
20:36Your skills need to be sharpened continuously.
20:39What worked last year might not work this year.
20:41What got you here won't necessarily get you there.
20:44So you have to stay curious.
20:46You have to stay humble.
20:47You have to stay committed to being a lifelong learner and a perpetual grower.
20:53It also means showing up even on the days when you don't feel like it, especially on
20:58those days.
21:00Because here's what I've learned.
21:01Motivation is wonderful when you have it, but discipline is what carries you through when
21:06motivation fails.
21:08And motivation will fail.
21:10There will be days when you're tired or discouraged or just plain bored with the work.
21:15Those are the days that separate the people who earn lasting success from the people who
21:21flame out after initial excitement fades.
21:24Those are the days when your daily commitment matters most.
21:27When you show up anyway, when you do the work anyway, when you push forward anyway, that's
21:33when I need to tell you something that might change the way you think about success entirely.
21:39We've been sold this lie that success is a finish line.
21:43We think if we can just get that degree or land that job or reach that income level or
21:49achieve that recognition, then we'll have arrive.
21:52Then we'll be successful.
21:54Then we can finally relax and coast.
21:56But that's not how this works.
21:58Success isn't a destination where you plant your flag and say, I made it and now I'm done.
22:03Success is a process.
22:05It's a daily practice.
22:07It's a commitment you make to yourself every single morning when your feet hit the floor.
22:11Think about the most successful people you know.
22:15I mean, truly successful, not just wealthy or famous, but people who are living lives of
22:21purpose and impact and fulfillment.
22:23Are they sitting back on their laurels?
22:25Are they resting on past achievements?
22:28No.
22:29They're still growing.
22:30They're still learning.
22:32They're still pushing themselves to be better than they were yesterday because they understand
22:38that the moment you stop growing, you start dying.
22:41The moment you think you've arrived, you've actually started the journey backward.
22:46I've had moments in my career where I achieved things I once thought were impossible.
22:52Moments where I could have said, okay, I've made it.
22:54And now I can just maintain what I've built.
22:57But every single time I reached one of those milestones, I discovered something profound.
23:03The achievement itself wasn't what brought lasting fulfillment.
23:08What brought fulfillment was the person I became in the process of achieving it.
23:13It was the discipline I developed.
23:15It was the resilience I built.
23:18It was the lessons I learned through the struggles and the setbacks.
23:22And here's the thing about becoming that kind of person.
23:25You can't turn it off.
23:27You don't want to turn it off.
23:28You want to keep growing because growth is what makes you feel alive.
23:33This is why success requires daily commitment.
23:36You can't work hard for a month and then coast for six months and expect to maintain your success,
23:43let alone grow it.
23:44You can't show up with excellence one day and then phone it in the next three days.
23:49Success is built through consistent daily choices that might seem small and insignificant in the
23:55moment, but compound over time into extraordinary results.
23:59It's choosing to get up early when you could sleep in.
24:03It's choosing to do the work even when you don't feel motivated.
24:07It's choosing to be excellent when no one's watching and when there's no immediate reward for your effort.
24:14Let me tell you what this looks like in practical terms.
24:17It means you don't get to say, I already learned that or I already know how to do that and use it as an excuse to stop developing.
24:25The world is changing constantly.
24:28Your industry is evolving.
24:30Your skills need to be sharpened continuously.
24:33What worked last year might not work this year.
24:35What got you here won't necessarily get you there.
24:38So you have to stay curious.
24:41You have to stay humble.
24:42You have to stay committed to being a lifelong learner and a perpetual grower.
24:48It also means showing up even on the days when you don't feel like it, especially on those days.
24:54Because here's what I've learned.
24:56Motivation is wonderful when you have it, but discipline is what carries you through when motivation fails.
25:02And motivation will fail.
25:04We vent.
25:04There will be days when you're tired or discouraged or just plain bored with the work.
25:10Those are the days that separate the people who earn lasting success from the people who flame out after initial excitement fades.
25:18Those are the days when your daily commitment matters most.
25:22When you show up any, when you do the work anyway, when you push, whoosh forward anyway,
25:27that's when you're building the foundation for sustainable long-term success that doesn't crumble the first time things get difficult.
25:36So let me bring this all together because I want you to leave here today with something you can hold on to when times get tough and they will get tough.
25:46I want you to remember that success is not some mysterious force that randomly chooses a lucky few.
25:52It's not reserved for people who were born into the right families or who had perfect circumstances or who never faced hardship.
26:01Success is available to every single person in this room, but you have to be willing to earn it.
26:06You have to be willing to look at your circumstances, whatever they are, and say, these don't define me.
26:13You have to be willing to take full ownership of your life knowing that nobody can do your work for you.
26:20You have to be willing to put in the hours and the effort and the sacrifice required to truly own your achievements.
26:27You have to be willing to show up day after day after day, even when it's hard, especially when it's hard, because success is a process, not a prize.
26:37I'm not going to tell you it will be easy.
26:39I'm not going to promise you that if you just work hard enough, everything will fall into place exactly as you planned.
26:47Life doesn't work that way.
26:49We vent.
26:50You will face rejection.
26:52You will experience failure.
26:53You will have moments when you question everything and wonder if you should just give up.
26:58But in those moments, I want you to remember why you started.
27:02I want you to remember that every person who has ever achieved anything meaningful has stood exactly where you're standing right now.
27:11We vent.
27:12They've felt what you're feeling.
27:14They've doubted what you're doubting.
27:16The only difference between them and the people who gave up is that they kept going.
27:20They understood that success is earned through persistence.
27:25It's earned through resilience.
27:27It's earned through the willingness to get back up one more time than you get knocked down.
27:32They understood that the struggle isn't a sign that you're on the wrong path.
27:37The struggle is the path.
27:39It's the refining fire that burns away everything that isn't essential and leaves you stronger and wiser and wiser and more capable than you ever thought possible.
27:49So I'm asking you today to make a commitment to yourself, not to me, not to anyone else, to yourself.
27:56Commit to earning your success.
27:57Commit to doing the work that only you can do.
28:00Commit to showing up every single day with your best effort.
28:04Commit to becoming the kind of person who doesn't need things handed to them because you know you can create whatever you need through your own effort and ingenuity and determination.
28:16We vent and when you finally achieve what you've been working toward and you will, if you stay committed, remember this moment.
28:25Remember what it took to get there.
28:26Remember the late nights and the early mornings.
28:30Remember the times you wanted to quit but didn't.
28:33Remember the people who doubted you and the voice inside that kept believing.
28:37Because that journey, that process of earning your success is what gives it meaning.
28:43That's what makes it sweet.
28:45That's what makes it yours.
28:47You are capable of far more than you know.
28:49You have gifts and talents and potential that are waiting to be unlocked.
28:54But they won't unlock themselves.
28:56You have to do the work.
28:58You have to earn it.
28:59And when you do, when you stand on the other side of all that effort and look back at how far you've come, you'll understand what I'm telling you today.
29:09Success isn't given.
29:10Success is earned.
29:11And earning it is what makes you successful.
29:14Now go out there and earn it.
29:16The world is waiting for what only you can bring to it.
