00:00Since the first year of the modern era
00:27the world's second smallest sovereign nation the principality of Monaco has been a part of the most glamorous form of motorsports in the world and so it remains today welcome to the 51st running of the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix. Hello everyone I'm Bob Varsha this is practice on Thursday on the traditional Monaco weekend the first weekend after Ascension Day the grandest Grand Prix of all
00:57about to unfold this weekend on Speed Channel alongside with me to share it with you David Hobbs and Steve Matchett Ferrari's heading out from the new pit lane complex here at Monaco a fabulous development for this super glamorous racing circuit.
01:14And the weather Bob definitely closing in they've already had one practice session where the temperature was nice a bit humid but clouds have rolled in for this second practice session and of course there's a possibility of rain later on today and through the weekend.
01:31Which could be a little bit slippery on these streets covered in obviously a lot of oil from trucks buses cars that run to these streets every day.
01:41There's the Grand Hotel hairpin one of the slowest corners if not the slowest corner in Formula One and they have to rejig the steering to get around there Steve it's so tight is that right?
01:49Right yeah slowest corner in Formula One you're absolutely right 25 miles an hour there or thereabouts to get around that Grand Hotel hairpin I still want to call it the Lowe's hairpin from my days of racing with Bannage I know of course I want to call it the station hairpin because it used to be the railway station used to be there.
02:09Right there right there right yeah going down to right about that with a Zepta sign is well all of these television images bring back so many memories through Poitier and along the harbour front underneath the hotel.
02:23Of course right there going to the tunnel at Poitier is where Ayrton Senna slammed the wall leading the race comfortably which of course would have given him his sixth win at Monte Carlo in 1988.
02:35You can see a big change to the circuit layout there just as the cars exit the tunnel that wall that barrier where a lot of cars over the years have slammed into that thing side which has been moved a long way back now probably about 20 metres or so.
02:50So they've got a big runoff area in case of any accidents you remember Button's accident from last year coming out there in the BAR.
02:57And across Cole Wendlinger's accident in 94 where he slammed into that tyre barrier as well so it's a very good thing that they've moved that thing way back now out of the way.
03:08Ralph Schumacher in the BMW Williams last year's pole sitter.
03:12You see that yellow line there just in the shop that is the exit of the pit lane.
03:17Extremely different layout around the pits now of course but the pit lane exit although the exit of the pit lane is in the original place where it was last year.
03:25They have extended that yellow line right around that corner.
03:29Which of course is a great idea because San Devote if you if you funnel the traffic incoming out of the pits it becomes very narrow and pretty dangerous so they go around the inside of a little island now at San Devote to go and don't join the track until going up through up the hill there.
03:47Bell rivage.
03:50Bjorn Vertheim and the Jaguar they've had an interesting morning in the morning practice session.
03:55Oh he's blown the right rear.
03:57Oh blown yeah.
03:58Let's take a look at the highlights of the morning practice to tell you what I'm talking about.
04:02No pressure on Michael Schumacher.
04:03Hey what for you put that camera in.
04:05Well he's got the camera right in his mug I must admit.
04:08Now here's what we're talking about.
04:09This is Mark Webber whose Jaguar caught fire as he came through the chicane just out of the tunnel.
04:15Excuse me mate can you get over here with your fire extinguisher?
04:18What the hell are you doing?
04:19Watch how long it takes an extinguisher to hit these flames.
04:22Eventually Webber has to go over.
04:24No he's still gesturing.
04:25Fire Marshal's still not coming.
04:27Just give me the darn thing.
04:28I'll do it myself.
04:29Yeah because Connor the car is really well on fire at this point.
04:33The fire marshal has put down his Ricard and decided he'll take the other extinguisher over there and see if they can minimize the damage to the Jag.
04:41Afterwards the thing was winched away and notice the fluids coming out the bottom.
04:46This was a fairly comprehensive detonation in the back of the Jaguar.
04:51Michael Schumacher was quickest in the first session this morning and looks like he's quickest in this one as well.
04:58The time was a 1.16.7.
05:01Michael half second or so clear of the field in the morning practice.
05:05Last year's poll a 1.15.
05:07But once again this is a true street circuit.
05:09The only one in Formula One.
05:11And as a result the track will rubber in and the times will get quicker.
05:15And we'll see if we get well under last year's poll.
05:18The BAR Hondas were second and third quicker this morning and Anthony Davidson already setting a cracking pace heading to be number one in this second session this afternoon.
05:29There has been some resurfaced work going on for the track as well on that leading to Rascas from the exit of Basin the swimming pool to the entrance of Rascas where they've been reworking the pit lane.
05:40And move the grandstands back into that harbor reclaim some of the land out of the Monaco harbor.
05:45And right there as well you can see they've been laying some new tarmac out.
05:48There's the transition point right there as the Ferrari goes back and onto the old tarmac and under the tunnel.
05:54Where since the layout has been changed all of the times will produce new records.
06:00And a lot of the corner entries have changed down around the casino the swimming pool and into Rascas.
06:06Now we want to take a look at what happened to Bjorn Vertheim who had that damage to the right rear corner of the third Jaguar.
06:13Let's take a look.
06:14He's coming down to the back.
06:16He's going right there.
06:17Yep.
06:18Boom.
06:19Bjorn Vertheim the test drive for Jaguar this year.
06:21Last year's former 3000 champion.
06:24Came in here with high hopes but boy he's had a miserable year.
06:27He hasn't been very quick in any of these sessions in the practice sessions because we only see him in the practice.
06:32We don't see him from qualifying on.
06:34But Jaguar not having a good day here at all with Webber's car catching fire in the first session.
06:39And this looks like this guy is out for this session.
06:43It's Juan Pablo Montoya the defending champion in this race.
06:47One of only two drivers to have won both Grand Prix of Monaco and the Indianapolis 500.
06:53The other of course the late Graham Hill.
06:55The skies are lowering a haze has settled over the beautiful harbor at Monaco.
07:03And as David mentioned earlier there is a distinct threat of rain.
07:06If not today it grows stronger as the weekend goes on.
07:10The corner where Bjorn Vertheim went off to back through the peace scene or the swimming pool.
07:21Well it's a second off but of course you've got to be very careful with these Thursday times today.
07:26Of course normally Friday times because they're doing all their race setup now.
07:30So you don't know what fuel they're carrying what tires are doing.
07:33They're doing tire runs to check on tire wear fuel consumption etc.
07:36So times are a bit suspect on Thursday.
07:39But toward the end of the session they'll start working on qualifying setup.
07:43And we'll see how far down the times go.
07:46We'll take a quick break and return.
07:48Stand by for more from Monaco.
07:54Speed Channel's coverage of the FIA Formula One World Championship is brought to you by BMW.
07:59BMW the ultimate driving machine.
08:07Welcome back to free practice on the Thursday for the Monaco Grand Prix.
08:12Bob Barsha, David Hobbs and Steve Matchett with you.
08:14Anthony Davidson with the BAR team.
08:17Fastest man of this session at a 1.16.8.
08:20Michael Schumacher in second.
08:22This is Kimi Räikkönen who's had such a star-crossed season for McLaren Mercedes thus far.
08:28Up to third.
08:29Just about a tenth off of the fast time of the session.
08:32Kimi Räikkönen of course had a great race here last year coming in second.
08:37Let's take a look at the Porsche track.
08:40Well of course as you can see it's a pretty complex course.
08:42It's the shortest on the circuit.
08:4422, just over two miles long.
08:4678 laps.
08:47And some real tight hairpins.
08:49The Grand Hotel being the slowest corner in all of Formula One.
08:51Look at that through the tunnel.
08:52170 miles an hour through that right-hand sweeper there.
08:55Blind all the way down to the chicane.
08:57Through to back and the swimming pool.
08:59Down to La Rascasse.
09:00And there you peel off to the new pit lane.
09:02You can see it just going up the middle there.
09:03San Duvatt is also a very important corner here.
09:06That's the first real corner.
09:07A fast exit there because that Beau Rivage is quite steep uphill.
09:11So you want to maintain speed all the way through there.
09:13And that Massenet another difficult corner.
09:15Very fast.
09:16And of course completely blind.
09:18And the great run downhill through the casino into Mirabeau.
09:21And really, really exciting.
09:22A lot of elevation change.
09:24Very tight corners.
09:25And the last record is 100 miles an hour with Kimi Riker.
09:30It is the most astonishing place.
09:32You cannot make a mistake around this place.
09:34Now there's a look at the new pit lane complex.
09:36Which is basically on the back side of the old complex.
09:39But there are now permanent garages and offices for the teams.
09:42A wide pit lane to the right.
09:44That black strip was the new section of racetrack.
09:47Laid out over 5,000 square meters of land.
09:51Reclaimed from the harbour front.
09:55Now this is where they work on the cars.
09:57And they walk through the pits and singled to them.
09:58Still on the track side right here.
10:00They singled to them out on the back on the front straight there.
10:03There's that hill climb up Beau Rivage.
10:06That must have made a colossal difference to the teams.
10:09Their trucks and transporters are still all parked down on the harbour front.
10:12But they've got the facilities now that they can keep the cars up in the pit lane.
10:17Throughout the duration of the race weekend.
10:19Which must be a tremendous relief.
10:22Some onboard replays from Anthony Davidson's BAR Honda.
10:26Davidson of course the third driver for this team.
10:28He was testing last week and had to be lifted out of the car.
10:31With a severely pinched nerve in his back.
10:34But obviously he is back on track this weekend.
10:36After a visit to the physiotherapist.
10:38Michael Schumacher watching his video screen there.
10:41Because he keeps on saying that he feels that the BAR Hondas are the threat for him this year.
10:48There's that pit lane exit we're talking about there.
10:50You just saw the car pull out.
10:52They must stop right around that yellow line.
10:54There's the pit lane exit there.
10:56You can't cross that line.
10:57We saw Michael Schumacher's mechanics when we just had that shot of Schumacher sitting in the car.
11:01Working on the front suspension.
11:03Changing the damper pack.
11:04On that front damper.
11:06Here's an onboard look at the Grand Hotel hairpin.
11:14That is tight.
11:22And all the teams are going to be doing that.
11:24It's working on the spring rate on the front of the car.
11:26Because you need to have the car very compliant and soft to work around this track.
11:30It's very low grip.
11:31You need to crank the downforce on.
11:34You need to get great traction.
11:35Use as soft tyres as you can.
11:37And below the cars we've got independent suspension.
11:45Huge new grandstand complex on the left.
11:48Which of course looks over this wall into pit lane.
11:51This is Raskas Corner restaurant right there on the right.
11:55Talk about controlled aggression.
12:00Right.
12:01To the line comes truly quickest of the session at a 1.16.4.
12:08Bumping Kimi Raikkonen who had set fast lap just a few moments ago.
12:13You'll see a little aerodynamic modification that Renault have carried out onto their chassis for Monaco.
12:18They've put their own little winglet on the air box intake.
12:22Look how small it is relative to the one that B.A.R. and Williams have been using and Ferrari.
12:30Renault going down the same avenue of thought now with trying to control the airflow to the rear wing.
12:36But a very stubby little wing.
12:38Look at the comparison there to the one that B.A.R. running on that chassis right there.
12:42I think that was Takuma Sato.
12:46Way to mess of that.
12:48Of course qualifying here so important.
12:51We know that we keep on saying qualifying is very important in Formula 1 because they are difficult.
12:55It's difficult to overtake and of course this circuit is almost impossible.
12:58The 40 of the last 50 Grand Prix have been won here from the front two rows.
13:03So you've got to be right at the sharp end in qualifying.
13:08It is one of the most amazing places you could ever visit.
13:12As a racetrack it is completely out of date.
13:15But as an event there is nothing like it anywhere else in motorsports.
13:20Luciano truly did that dynamite start two weeks ago in Spain.
13:25Leaping from his fourth spot on the grid into the lead.
13:29And of course if he can start the lead here he can if he does the same sort of start he'll be gone.
13:37But we're a long way off from qualifying as yet.
13:39These cars still doing a lot of race setup.
13:51Trilly's 1.16.4 is in fact the best performance of the day thus far.
13:59The Coulthard up to fourth.
14:04The ride with Juan Pablo Montoya fifth.
14:07Looks like he may be headed for the new pit lane.
14:12Look at those big grandstands they added along the harbor front on that reclaimed land.
14:16It's a totally new look at Monaco.
14:18We'll be back in just a moment.
14:20Welcome back to Thursday practice at the Monaco Grand Prix.
14:30While we were away Giancarlo Fisichella put the Sauber into third in the session.
14:47The order right now is Yarno Trulli from the Renault team.
14:51Kimi Raikkonen in the McLaren Mercedes.
14:53And now Fisichella in the Sauber Ferrari.
14:56With Anthony Davidson who posted the fast early time in the session.
15:00Now bumped down to fourth.
15:02David Coulthard fifth.
15:04Michael Schumacher ahead at the second intermediate.
15:06He may set a new standard for the day.
15:09His first sector was a little bit off.
15:12His second sector was up.
15:13So this is going to be pretty close I would think.
15:18No.
15:19Off by 46 thousands.
15:24Lost the time off of Rescasse.
15:26Jean Tote looking on.
15:28Team manager for Ferrari.
15:30McLaren no doubt breathing a huge sigh of relief.
15:33With Kimi Raikkonen lying second.
15:34And David Coulthard fifth.
15:37Unlike the last few races where they've been really languishing.
15:40Rubens Barrichello.
15:43And the Ferrari takes P1.
15:44And what these guys are going to be working on I'm sure.
15:47Is this comparison of tyre compounds.
15:50Between the hard and the soft compound.
15:52Bridgestone have been working flat out.
15:55From the last race to this one.
15:56To try and develop a tyre.
15:58Which will work very well.
16:00For an opening lap.
16:01To give them that quick pace in qualifying.
16:03And I'm sure that's what they're going to be working on here.
16:05To try and get a comparison of that tyre.
16:07How it feels.
16:08Not just for the qualifying session.
16:10For that single lap.
16:11But remember they've got to use the onboard fuel.
16:13For the opening race stint.
16:14So they've got to be able to get five or six laps on the thing.
16:17To see how the tyres hang in here.
16:24Looking forward to a bit more of that.
16:25But they changed away from it.
16:27Michael Schumacher had another clear lap there.
16:30I don't know whether he was going for a quick lap.
16:32Or whether he's going for a bit of a stint here.
16:34Maybe a five or six lap stint.
16:36To collect some data.
16:39I'm sure that's what they're going to be doing.
16:41It's so difficult really for the teams and engineers.
16:44To engineer speed out of the car.
16:46All you can really do is make the thing as soft as possible.
16:49Crank on as much wing as possible.
16:51And let the driver show his talent in the car.
16:54Well of course these Formula One cars.
16:56As we've seen before.
16:57Tend to understeer a lot anyway.
16:59And the sort of corners they've got here.
17:01I.e. this one.
17:02And the next one you see there.
17:03In the middle of the picture.
17:04And Portier.
17:06Which is just coming up.
17:07These are the sort of corners that tend to induce a lot of understeer.
17:10Or push anyway.
17:11And you want to try and engineer the car.
17:14So it'll rotate around those tight corners.
17:16But you've got to be careful it doesn't rotate too much.
17:18You certainly don't want it rotating in the tunnel for instance.
17:21Which is where you'd rely on all that downpour.
17:24Right.
17:25Schumacher's times keep popping up with quick sectors.
17:29But not a full quick lap.
17:32I think what he may be doing is just working on his one sector at a time.
17:36That's what they do.
17:37What the teams will do is.
17:38They'll find out which part of the track.
17:40Which particular corner the car is worst over.
17:43Now.
17:44It could be any particular corner.
17:45Where it's Massenail going down to the Lowe's hairpin.
17:47Or through the tunnel.
17:48And that's the point of the track.
17:49That they'll work on the car.
17:50To try and make it work best there.
17:52And then try and average that out around the circuit.
17:55Ferrari team continues its work.
17:58As usual.
17:59The photographer's mast.
18:00At any vantage point they can find.
18:02Watch the action.
18:03We'll be back.
18:05Welcome back.
18:06Another look at what just happened to Anthony Davidson in the BAR.
18:12Who was all kinds of sideways.
18:14Went into the runoff at Sandovot.
18:16And somehow managed not to hit anything.
18:18Wee.
18:19Because he's doing 170 when he puts the brakes on there.
18:21For Sandovot.
18:22And obviously tries.
18:23Knows you're going to abort the corner.
18:25Doesn't try and get it.
18:26Look at this.
18:27Onto cobblestones.
18:28Not a lot of grip on those.
18:29I tell you.
18:30And if it does rain the weekend.
18:31They'll be really slick if anybody goes down there.
18:33Just one little puff of tire smoke.
18:35That was actually a pretty good job of getting that thing stopped.
18:38Moving smartly out of the way of Raikkonen.
18:40Which is good of him.
18:43Maybe going back for a costume change.
18:48It's Kimi Raikkonen.
18:51Joel Baumgartner gets the Minardi out of the way.
19:00Kimi Raikkonen of course incredibly frustrated.
19:02The points.
19:05P1 there.
19:06So that's a good move up the grip from McLaren.
19:11About to dip down into the 1 minute 15 second zone.
19:18And up into the famed Casino Square.
19:20Don't forget to join us Saturday morning at 8 a.m. Eastern
19:23for coverage of qualifying for this Monaco Grand Prix.
19:26Nearly impossible to pass on track.
19:28So it may be the most important qualifying session of the year.
19:31You want a grid up front.
19:33Don't miss it again.
19:34That's Saturday at 8 a.m. Eastern.
19:35Only here on speed.
19:37However, the event is subject to blackout.
19:40Wow.
19:41And Alonso just nailed Kimi Raikkonen by nearly half a second.
19:45Did a 15-7.
19:47So those don't look to be very tall curves.
19:55What would they do to the car?
19:56Well, of course, these cars have got no suspension travel at all.
19:59So they go over those bumps.
20:00And as we've said before at Imola just a couple of weeks ago,
20:03you've got to be able to drive these cars over the curbs.
20:06They've dropped the height of these curves as well over the last few years.
20:09Coming out of the tunnel there, that chicane used to be,
20:11they did used to be much taller than that, Bob.
20:13I remember that.
20:14And just thinking about that part of the track at Mirabeau going down from Casino.
20:20Remember a couple of years ago, we saw David Coulthard's car chucking up smoke
20:24coming out of the back of the car.
20:26Every time it went over that raised section,
20:27it used to have that sort of checkerboard effect on it,
20:29white and black so you could see where it was.
20:31But the resurface work they've done on the track
20:33has taken the paint away from that raised section.
20:36If we get a chance to see it when we follow the cars around,
20:39I'll point it out to you because I'm sure that's the sort of area on the track
20:43where the engineers are working out to try and make the car compliant to work over it.
20:48You see it now as we go around into Casino.
20:51But if you make the cars too soft, right there,
20:55you see it just a little dip when the cars try and steer away from it.
20:58It used to be much clearer in the past with the paintwork highlighting it,
21:01but the drivers have lost that sight line on it now.
21:03You see how the inside tyre picking up off the ground on the Renault
21:07going round that very, very tight hairpin.
21:10Resurfaced down to Portier, but not through Portier and not under the tunnel as far as we're aware.
21:16The problem is I'm thinking, you know, you try and make the cars too compliant
21:19to go over that section we're talking about earlier on,
21:21and as they turn right to go down into that Grand Hotel hairpin,
21:25they just sit down too much, you get too much chassis roll.
21:28So that's the kind of thing the engineers are playing with,
21:30trying to get that a fine line, but, you know,
21:33it is difficult to get the car to work well round here.
21:35A lot of it, I have to say, is down to the driver's skill, David.
21:39This is where you guys come into your own, right?
21:42Yeah, you've got to get the car by the scruff of the neck and really manhandle it around here.
21:47There's no doubt about it.
21:48It comes to a point where the chassis finesse, you know, whatever you do with the chassis,
21:51you've just absolutely got to really get with the program as the driver.
21:55Even the aerodynamicists tend to throw their hands in the air here and up in the air here and say,
21:59well, do what you like.
22:01Because the engines are not running absolutely flat out, they can't generate the maximum power.
22:05Oh, and that's a Jaguar.
22:07Another Jaguar.
22:08Oh my goodness, me, Jaguar, having a miserable day.
22:13Christian Clean.
22:15Oh my goodness.
22:16That's his second of the session.
22:18Now that's at the top of the Beau Rivage going through the Massenet,
22:20which is this difficult left-hander.
22:22It's very fast left-hander.
22:23You're going about 170 miles an hour up to it.
22:26And you whistle through the corner itself at about 125, 130.
22:30But the road is very flat.
22:32Mark Webber looking a bit peed off there because his car burnt up in the first section.
22:36I'm wondering how many chassis they have left.
22:38Excuse me, it wasn't Clean.
22:39It was Vertheim who hit the wall down by the Piscine.
22:41Webber had his car explode in flames.
22:44And now Clean has compacted it up near Casino Square.
22:49That looks like it might have done a bit of chassis damage.
22:52Of course, like all tracks, if you get off line, there's the rolled-up rubber and dust.
22:57Not much of it yet, as it's only the first day.
22:59But nevertheless, it can become a problem.
23:01Interesting actually to see that jag on the jib crane now.
23:06I was looking earlier on when Webber's car burst into flames and they lifted the thing up.
23:11I remember a couple of races ago, I was trying to point out the attitude of the car sitting on the jib to get the weight distribution cost.
23:19Let's have a look. Look how neutral that is.
23:21Now, guys, you tech guys, think back a couple of years.
23:24If you saw a car on a jib like that, you would have seen the back end of the car much further down, about a 45 degree tilt on the thing.
23:30Great indication of how much weight they've transferred to the front.
23:34As we're talking about last race to try and get the weight over the front axle to get those new generation of tyres to work.
23:39Look at all the oil coming out of that thing as well.
23:41Of course, as David Hobbs mentioned at the time, consider all the engine parts that have been blown out the back of that jib.
23:50Probably lighten the tail end a little bit.
23:51But we used to see a weight distribution of, oh, we'd have about 65% of the weight on the back.
23:57And those days have gone.
24:04Bit of suspension movement there from the front.
24:11Rumors that BMW Williams may discard this twin keel and this sort of shark nose or whatever front end you call it.
24:20Denied by the team.
24:21But obviously these rumors sort of tend to spring up and they're very often right.
24:26Montoya up to fourth.
24:27He was ninth.
24:28And that is how hard he is trying.
24:30It's a lot of teams talking about radical updates.
24:37Led, of course, by McLaren Mercedes, who say they'll have a new car on track, hopefully by Hockenheim.
24:43And Toyota needs some radical as well.
24:45Welcome back to Thursday practice for round six of the 2004 Formula One season, the Monaco Grand Prix.
24:55And there goes the world champion Michael Schumacher in his Ferrari.
25:00By the way, Peter Windsor will be taking us on a tour of that radically revamped pit complex here in Monaco.
25:08When we come to you with live coverage of the Grand Prix on Sunday morning beginning at 7.30 a.m. Eastern time.
25:14Now we've got 27 minutes, just under half an hour to go, Steve.
25:19At what stage do these guys turn over from, you know, the race setup,
25:24which obviously you've got to get the car ready for the race, to qualifying.
25:28And this is probably the single most intense track of qualifying on the series.
25:35What I was thinking about.
25:36You've really got to get to think, because qualifying here is absolutely right.
25:39Under the last 40 races, Pole Position has won it 18 times and dropped out 21.
25:44So it's either win or bust and pole, it seems.
25:47In that first hour-long session, in the half hour we've had so far,
25:50again, the teams would have been working on that choice of compound.
25:54You've got to decide whether to use the hard or the soft compound,
25:57and only then can you start to tweak the aerodynamics in the spring race on the car
26:01to work with that particular compound.
26:03Jenson Button, at the moment down in tenth. This is going to be a quick one.
26:08First place.
26:10I didn't know it was going to be that quick.
26:11First place.
26:12First place.
26:1315-5.
26:14Oh, he got that right on the guardrail.
26:18Well, of course, you've got to be right on the guardrail here.
26:21The road is not wide here, and obviously part of the speed in any other racetrack
26:25is carrying momentum and speed through the corner,
26:28and you've absolutely got to use every inch of road available.
26:31Another San De Vot victim, Nick Heidfeld, this time.
26:35All right.
26:36In the Jordan.
26:37That team actually issued a press release this week
26:40to confirm that their lineup for this race would be Heidfeld
26:43and Italian Giorgio Pantano.
26:45The rumors of Dutchman Jasper Stoppen getting into that car continue to circulate.
26:50Similar sort of move to the one we saw just a few moments ago from Anthony Davidson.
26:56Just overdid the braking.
26:58But no sign of locking up there.
27:00Well, a veteran decided discretion was the better part of glamour,
27:07and better to continue on your way with a slower time than hit the fence.
27:11Speed Channel's coverage of the FIA Formula One World Championship
27:18is brought to you by the United States Grand Prix.
27:21The United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis has a new date, June 20, 2004.
27:26Tickets can be purchased online at IndianapolisMotorSpeedway.com
27:30or by calling 800-822-NDY.
27:37Welcome back.
27:38Steve Matchett, David Hobbs, and yours truly, Bob Varsha, with you for Thursday practice
27:43for the Monaco Grand Prix.
27:4548 hours between practice and qualifying, and the teams will tell you
27:49the track can change completely from the end of this session
27:53to when the cars go out for the first of their two single-lap sessions on Saturday.
27:58And I tell you what, the way Michael Schumacher was throwing that F2004 Ferrari
28:02through Sandoval, you saw the rear of the car really skidding around and dancing,
28:06but again, Michael Schumacher demonstrating that ability just to hang on to the car
28:11and dance with it.
28:13I mean, it just worked perfectly through there, that chassis.
28:16He has got amazing car control, there's no doubt about it.
28:21I apologize for any audio break-up you may be hearing.
28:25It's coming from the World Feed transmission in Europe.
28:29Well, traditionally, in the period that I worked with Michael Schumacher at Benetton,
28:35he always liked the car set up incredibly stiff, just like his car, really, from his karting days.
28:42And, of course, when you've got the car set up in that condition,
28:45it's very, very nervous, and you're constantly, constantly fighting with the steering wheel
28:50to correct the oversteer, understeer, all the way around the track,
28:53but it's very difficult to drive in that condition, you need absolute...
28:56There it goes again, look, lightning reflexes to catch it all the while,
28:59but if you can do it, well, it works very well.
29:04But a lot of his teammates have suffered and struggled with that car being set up
29:08in that similar condition.
29:14There it is. A little bit too low at the set time.
29:18And having said that about Schumacher's car,
29:20and having said that about Schumacher's car,
29:22and having said that about Schumacher's car...
29:38...
29:44about Schumacher's car is just because one of the reasons you see these cars
30:04twitching around a bit going into these corners is on braking is because around
30:09here they tend to bias towards the rear brakes which I think is what happened to
30:12both Heidfeldt and Anthony Davidson going to Sandivate and what we saw Michael Schumacher
30:18going to the chicane because you you want to take some braking off the front otherwise you
30:23just can't brake and turn in at the same time the thing won't turn did you notice on
30:27that shot of Jean Toque the hand clutching the stopwatches there were band-aids on each
30:31of his fingertips that's because the Frenchman chews his nails down to the nub and the team
30:37doctor said it's like putting a collar on a dog to keep him from scratching John stop it
30:45puts band-aids on his face right good job it's only a sport we don't take it too seriously right
30:52Jenson Button
30:56actually David continuing on what you were saying about brake bias and bias in the brake towards
31:01the rear that's absolutely right we used to set the car up as well and going down to the chicane you'll
31:07see a lot of the drivers seeming to overshoot the chicane and get it all wrong but of course what
31:11they're working on this these sessions is finding the perfect braking point yeah it's better to do
31:17it now get it wrong and keep backing off a meter or so until you get it absolutely spot on get that
31:22sorted out now and then check the brake balance mark where that figure is in the cockpit so when the driver
31:27can do it automatically with his hand without thinking where it is and set that brake balance
31:31point up perfectly Montoya has just jumped up to fourth behind Button Alonso and truly both Renault's
31:41going well in this session both in the 1.15 zone we have yet to see a Williams BMW get to a 1.15
31:48David Coulthard we look at and has won this race twice in 2000 2002 and he was on the pole
31:53here in 2001 and unfortunately retired in the race
31:58and that is commitment
32:12only a half second off at the second intermediate this could be a good lap for both times oh boy he hit that curb at the no corner
32:226th for Coulthard in the McLaren one spot behind his teammate Jimmy Raikkonen because it was a time when they would have been absolutely disgusted with being fifth and sixth but right now they'll take it they've been like 14th and 15th
32:41Rivian Barrakella
32:42Barrakella
32:48Britschko no doubt going through the tires also non-inter on the soft and hard compound but I think they've got some other tricks up their sleeve to try and develop a tire
32:58that is quicker on that opening lap
33:01here we saw how slow Michael Schumacher was in Imola with
33:05one of Pablo Montoya all over like a cheap suit
33:08on that opening lap but of course once the car gets going the tires get warmed up they're great
33:12but of course they're just a little bit slow on that opening lap and of course for the one lap
33:16qualifying it's the same and that's what michael said afterwards he was waiting for his tires to
33:21come up to temperature and pressure so he could set off after then leader jensen but we'll be back
33:26to monaco
33:27so
33:39so
33:41so
33:47so
33:51Welcome back.
34:03Bounding towards you alongside the world-famous marina
34:08and the harbor at Monaco.
34:09Juan Pablo Montoya, defending champion in the Grand Prix of Monaco,
34:15has traffic up ahead that Giancarlo Fisichella in the Sauber.
34:21Through the Anthony Noguez corner, named for the cigarette maker
34:24who came up with the idea for an auto race around the streets of the Principality
34:29back in the early years of the 1900s.
34:42You'll notice on the rear wings around here,
34:45on the Williams and on the B.A.R., the Williams chassis there, we'll just see it.
34:49So they've had to remove those fences,
34:53those sort of elongated carmen lannels on the inside of the rear wing
34:58have been taken off by the FIA as a clarification.
35:04Do you remember B.A.R. was working on that idea of being able to run
35:07a third element on the rear wing,
35:09as well as another clarification of that by the FIA.
35:12Again, reduce downforce as much as possible.
35:16Charlie White and the FIA's race director
35:18are really still in control of the technical issues that the FIA have said.
35:22Take those fence panels off.
35:24You must only have two elements on that rear wing.
35:27And when I say two elements, that's what I mean.
35:29That's the good thing about Charlie White.
35:32I've always thought that.
35:33Charlie White is a very straight-talking sort of a guy.
35:36And as much as the engineers and the designers
35:38try and weasel the way around the regulations
35:41to make it work to their best effect,
35:43when Charlie says something's black and white,
35:45that's exactly what it is at the end of the day.
35:47And he'll just say,
35:48I said take it off.
35:50I don't know, you know.
35:52Well, I'm not arguing with you.
35:54What's hard to understand about take it off?
35:55Absolutely.
35:57There's Frank Derny,
35:58a very experienced engineer.
36:02There's Anthony Davidson,
36:03who has just gone to the head of the class
36:05with the fastest first sector time we've seen in 19.6.
36:10So actually the fastest second sector,
36:12two at a 37.3.
36:14His overall 115.314.
36:17So he and Button in the two-bale Hondas
36:19now heading the list.
36:21Alonso and Trulli in the two Renaults next.
36:24Montoya at fifth.
36:25Riken and Coulthard in sixth and seventh.
36:27Rubens Barrichello and Schumacher eighth and ninth.
36:30Michael Schumacher, that is.
36:31Ralph Schumacher is still down in 13th spot,
36:34so we've obviously got some more time to come from him.
36:37Through the pool.
36:40You know, have a bit of break up there
36:41from the satellite.
36:42A bit.
36:44Well, just a tad.
36:46Cristiano Di Marlo moving out of the way now.
36:48Well, this, of course, could be the clash of titans
36:51that's coming.
36:52The Asian giants.
36:53Toyota, of course,
36:54one of the largest car companies in the world now
36:57and got more cash than most countries
36:59versus Honda.
37:03Well, Toyota's going to have to take a running start
37:05on that leap
37:06because they are being completely outclassed
37:09by Honda right now.
37:10And it's just so sad to hear Olivier Pannis
37:14and Cristiano Di Marlo coming into yet another Grand Prix
37:16saying, well, it doesn't look like this is going to be
37:18a good race for us.
37:21There's that understay you were talking about there.
37:23David Hobbs right there.
37:25The drivers want to put that power on as quick as possible
37:27coming out of the Grand Hotel hairpin.
37:29And you do that, of course,
37:31and the front end just washes away.
37:32Ricardo Zonta talking about the clash of titans
37:39and the Asian manufacturers.
37:40Ricardo Zonta in the Toyota
37:41has jumped into third spot now with a 15.6.
37:45And I think that every race this year,
37:47Ricardo Zonta on the Friday
37:48has been quicker than the race drivers
37:51who are currently...
37:52Cristiano Di Marlo.
37:53...the 14th Olivier Pannis
37:55and 15th Cristiano Di Marlo.
37:58Rumors persist that those two will be
38:01redundant at the end of the season
38:03and that Ralph Schumacher, in fact,
38:06already has a deal in place
38:08to come to Toyota in 2005.
38:11I just find that extraordinary, really,
38:14that a team like Toyota
38:16would take Ralph Schumacher.
38:19Nothing personal against Ralph Schumacher,
38:21but his record in this time of the sport
38:24doesn't indicate to me...
38:26I mean, I'm hearing rumors
38:27that Toyota want to take Ralph Schumacher
38:28and do what Michael Schumacher did to Ferrari
38:31and rebuild the team to this Zenith.
38:34Well...
38:35There's only one snag in that plan, right?
38:38Right.
38:39They may be brothers...
38:41They ain't the same at all.
38:42But they're not twins.
38:44I mean, if I was Toyota,
38:45I would be looking hard at Ricardo Zonta
38:48and Anthony Davidson,
38:50who is a test driver for Honda at the moment.
38:52I mean, there's some good young talent.
38:54I just think spending a lot of money,
38:56I mean, a lot of money,
38:57they're talking about 15 million
38:58on Ralph Schumacher.
39:01It's mind-boggling.
39:03It is.
39:03I mean, you've got David Coulthard there,
39:05who I can think can do a better job.
39:06Well, even you'd drive for 15 million, David,
39:08wouldn't you?
39:08Well, yeah.
39:10Difficult decision, aren't it?
39:11Yeah, I know.
39:12Flavio Britori...
39:13David Coulthard, too,
39:14is such a personal sort of guy.
39:16Great for all your PR and that.
39:17Well, that rumor persists as well.
39:19In fact, David Coulthard
39:20sat into the Wednesday press conference
39:22in Monaco,
39:24and a long and fairly comical exchange
39:26developed between he and the audience
39:29of journalists who kept pressing him.
39:31What are you doing next year?
39:32Do things look good?
39:33Can you give us a little smile?
39:35And he just kept saying,
39:36I'll tell you when I want to tell you.
39:38Welcome back.
39:43Just in time to watch Michael Schumacher
39:45put the finishing touches
39:47on the fastest lap of the weekend thus far.
39:50A 1.14.7.
39:54And I think a 1.14
39:55is got to be right at 100 miles an hour
39:59or thereabouts.
40:02Look at the six-time world champion
40:04sawing away at that wheel.
40:06A fabulous lap.
40:08Quickest in every sector.
40:11Substantially.
40:14That was a heck of a lap.
40:17And that's the sort of lap
40:18that Bridgestone are looking for
40:20because I think that was his first flying lap.
40:22He went out and obviously did the,
40:24you know, his warm-up,
40:25then cracked off one,
40:26which of course is what he needs to do
40:28on Saturday
40:29when we come back for qualifying,
40:30not tomorrow.
40:31No.
40:31No.
40:38Barrichello coming up to speed
40:41or cooling down.
40:42I'm not sure which.
40:44While he does that,
40:44if you can't get enough of Formula One racing
40:46here on Speed Channel,
40:48you need to check these fabulous cars out
40:50in person.
40:51What better place to do that
40:52than the U.S. Grand Prix in Indianapolis.
40:54To reserve your tickets,
40:55contact the Speedway ticket office
40:57at 1-800-822-INDY
41:00or check out their website
41:01at www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com.
41:05This year as an added bonus,
41:07with the purchase of a race day ticket,
41:08you'll be given access
41:09to walk the pit lane
41:10on Thursday morning.
41:12Which leads me to an interesting story.
41:14We've been barking on and on
41:15about how it's the only place
41:16in Formula One
41:17where you can get Thursday morning
41:18access to the race cars.
41:21And a viewer emailed me
41:23a personal message
41:24that was sent out
41:25to former ticket holders
41:26at the Canadian Grand Prix
41:27saying that they're going to have
41:29Thursday access
41:30to the garages as well.
41:31So, two places in North America
41:34where you can get up close
41:35to the race cars.
41:36But we hope to see you
41:37at Indianapolis.
41:39Look at that, a 14.7.
41:41The current lap record
41:42is Kimi Raikkonen
41:43at a 100.2,
41:46which is a 14.5.
41:48But the circuit has changed
41:49just a little bit.
41:50So, whichever way you look at it,
41:52that is right at
41:53about 100 miles an hour
41:55around the streets of Monte Carlo.
41:56And when you look at
41:57some of those corners
41:58to average 100.
42:00Well, yeah, absolutely.
42:01You take the...
42:02The extreme of that,
42:04of course,
42:05and Grand Hotel...
42:06I'm sorry, I'm miles up.
42:07It's 99.9.
42:08That Grand Hotel, remember,
42:10is 25 miles an hour.
42:11Yeah.
42:12So, somewhere or other,
42:13you're making up 75 miles an hour
42:15for an average space.
42:17I just wish we could get
42:18those onboard shots
42:19for a complete lap
42:20because what these drivers
42:22and cars are doing out here
42:24is just unbelievable.
42:27And I'm a little curious
42:28that we're not getting them
42:29because Formula One
42:30television technology
42:31over the years
42:32is normally
42:34the best in the world.
42:37Ooh, just got that Apex
42:39just a hair early,
42:40which, of course,
42:41made him really early
42:42for the next one.
42:43But it bounded over there
42:44pretty well.
42:46Well, this is what I think
42:46what we're talking about earlier on
42:47with getting the car
42:48to work well.
42:49They're putting softer
42:50and softer springs on.
42:51Well, as soft as they dare go,
42:52of course,
42:53without the thing wallowing.
42:56But even though
42:56these cars are
42:58fully independent suspension,
43:00meaning that each corner
43:00of the car works
43:01independently to the other one,
43:03because of the stiff rate
43:04of roll bar
43:04or sway bar,
43:06I should say,
43:07that they put on these cars,
43:09the rear suspension
43:10and the fronts
43:11tend to work
43:11very much combined together.
43:13So here,
43:14you really want to run
43:15very minimal roll bar,
43:17sway bar
43:17to allow the thing
43:18to move over the curving.
43:21We're watching Jenson Button,
43:22but meanwhile,
43:23his teammate,
43:24the third driver for BAR,
43:25young Anthony Davidson,
43:27turned in a 19-3
43:28in the first sector.
43:30That's the quickest yet.
43:37I think Button
43:38maybe back to race
43:39set up here.
43:40I don't think he had
43:41traffic on that lap.
43:42That's two and a half seconds
43:43off of his best.
43:46These guys are being
43:47very clever BAR
43:48by working so closely
43:50with Honda.
43:51Remember,
43:52they've got Honda internals
43:53inside the gearbox.
43:54They've got Honda engineers
43:55working on their own
43:57suspension system as well
43:58that they test back to back
43:59when they go testing.
44:01So already,
44:01they're working in a way
44:02to optimize everything
44:03on the car
44:04by using the massive resources
44:06that Honda have got
44:07at their disposal.
44:10They're not by far
44:12just an engine supplier
44:14in this setup.
44:16I think the big manufacturers
44:19like Honda,
44:20Toyota,
44:20and BMW
44:21all want to be
44:23in that sort of situation.
44:24Of course,
44:25Mercedes-Benz,
44:26I'm sure,
44:26is in that situation
44:27with McLaren.
44:28A 15-1 for Davidson,
44:31an improvement on his time,
44:32but still,
44:33four-tenths off
44:34of Michael Schumacher's
44:35amazing 14-7.
44:41Well,
44:42that has thrown
44:43the old gauntlet down,
44:44hasn't it?
44:46Once again,
44:46we apologize
44:47for the audio problems
44:48and the lack
44:48of the onboard cameras.
44:50I'm sure all of this
44:51will be cleared up
44:52by the time we come to you
44:53for qualifying
44:54on Saturday morning.
44:56And for the looks of things,
44:57we're going to need
44:58all 48 hours
44:59for the folks
44:59to get things working
45:00in Monaco.
45:01Of course,
45:01the onboards are difficult
45:02in Monte Carlo
45:02because the helicopter
45:03obviously has got to be
45:05a little bit careful
45:06with all those buildings.
45:06Of course,
45:07the buildings keep
45:07cutting off the signal.
45:08Well,
45:08they developed
45:09ground-level antennas
45:11so that the signal
45:12would never break up
45:12for that reason.
45:13They didn't need
45:14line of sight
45:15to a helicopter
45:16like a cellular phone
45:17might work.
45:19And I'm surprised
45:20that they're not working
45:21here this morning.
45:21But it is the opening day
45:23and, of course,
45:23some truck
45:25may have been
45:26a little late
45:26crossing some border.
45:28The signal seems
45:29to suffer a lot
45:30through those
45:30high lateral
45:31G-load corners
45:32as well,
45:32doesn't it?
45:33As if it's almost
45:33some problem
45:34with the camera
45:35itself,
45:35just having difficulty
45:37working under
45:37those side loadings.
45:39Davidson.
45:42I'll tell you,
45:45Anthony Davidson
45:46has really come
45:48to his own,
45:49has done a lot
45:49of testing now
45:50for B.A.R. Honda,
45:51but really,
45:52on these Fridays,
45:53he's been pretty
45:53spectacular all year.
45:54It's been a great
45:55program.
45:56I wish they'd let
45:56every team out there
45:57put a third driver
45:59on course to get a look
46:00at some of these kids.
46:04In fact,
46:04David Coulthard
46:05was complaining.
46:06Here's McLaren,
46:07a top four team
46:08last year,
46:08so they're not
46:09entitled to a third
46:10driver.
46:10They come out
46:11with a car
46:11and engine
46:11combination that
46:12is very problematic
46:13and they don't get
46:15those third driver
46:16laps.
46:17They don't have
46:17that extra data
46:18gathering.
46:19And of course,
46:19they get a lot
46:20of laps.
46:20I mean,
46:20Davidson's done
46:2131 laps to
46:22Michael Schumacher's
46:2321 because with
46:23the one engine
46:24for the weekend
46:25rule,
46:26if they want to
46:27get a lot of
46:27laps done in
46:27practice,
46:28you have to
46:28use the car
46:29that's not
46:29going to be
46:29in the race.
46:31Yeah,
46:31and they use
46:32him very well.
46:33All the third
46:34drivers have
46:34been put to
46:34great use,
46:35even if it's
46:36just to put
46:37those tires
46:38on and do
46:38a long run
46:39on fuel,
46:40do consistent
46:41laps,
46:41not necessarily
46:42going for an
46:42all-out
46:43qualifying lap,
46:44but do consistent
46:45laps and then
46:45allow the tire
46:46engineers to
46:47look at the
46:48wear of the
46:48tire and see
46:49whether or not
46:49it's graining
46:50and how long
46:50it's going to
46:51lapse and how
46:52long they can
46:52last before they
46:53need to come
46:54in and change.
46:55So traditionally
46:55this has been
46:56like a two-stop
46:57race,
46:57certainly last
46:58year.
46:58It's so,
46:59so difficult
46:59to overtake
47:00here.
47:01Do you go
47:01for three
47:02stops?
47:02Do you go
47:02for two?
47:03Well,
47:03I think the
47:03majority of
47:04teams are going
47:04to go for a
47:05two-stop
47:05around here.
47:06You may
47:06even see
47:06some people
47:08attempt to
47:08do a very,
47:09very long
47:09two-stop
47:10and a long
47:10first stint
47:11in that race.
47:13But yeah,
47:13to use those
47:14third drivers
47:14well is a
47:15great,
47:16great resource
47:16and BAR
47:17are doing
47:18a fantastic
47:18job there.
47:19The trouble
47:19with the
47:19one-stop
47:20here,
47:20of course,
47:20is getting
47:21off the
47:21line.
47:22You know,
47:22you're carrying
47:22so much
47:23weight and
47:23you've got to
47:24drag it up
47:24the hill
47:24after Sandoval
47:25on that
47:26opening lap.
47:27I mean,
47:28you know,
47:29working out
47:30the logistics
47:30of this race
47:31are very
47:31difficult.
47:32Again,
47:32we apologize
47:33for the
47:34audio.
47:36Now,
47:36talking about
47:36those great
47:37starts,
47:37remember
47:37Renault's
47:38fantastic
47:38start as
47:40we see
47:40the flag
47:41come out
47:41to end
47:42that session.
47:43I'm hearing
47:44that that
47:44Renault
47:44engine,
47:45this new
47:45revamped
47:46version B
47:46of Michael
47:47Schumacher
47:48at P1,
47:49that new
47:50revamped
47:50Renault
47:51engine will
47:51pull very
47:52strongly from
47:53down around
47:532,000,
47:542,500 RPM
47:55where a lot
47:56of the others
47:56in the pit
47:57lane aren't
47:58sort of producing
47:59any power
47:59until about
47:595,000.
48:00So that's
48:01giving them
48:01great low
48:02end
48:02torque
48:02without
48:03the risk
48:03of wheel
48:04spin,
48:05of course,
48:05because you're
48:05not allowed
48:05to use
48:06launch control
48:07electronics
48:08on the car
48:09to control
48:09that wheel
48:10spin.
48:11Can you imagine,
48:11I mean,
48:12in the old days
48:12a racing
48:13engine had
48:13about a 400
48:14about a 400
48:15RPM power
48:16range.
48:17I mean,
48:17one of the
48:18Hondas I drove
48:19in 1968,
48:19the Aircool V8,
48:21I mean,
48:21it absolutely
48:22had no power
48:23below 7,
48:23and at 7.7
48:24it blew up.
48:26And these
48:26guys,
48:27you're talking
48:27about a car
48:28that's revving
48:28from 2,000
48:29to 19,000.
48:31a lot of
48:34other teams
48:34have been
48:35trying to
48:36get to
48:36grips with
48:36what Renault
48:37are doing
48:37on this
48:37launch control
48:38system,
48:38and Pat
48:39Simmons'
48:39explanation
48:40has been
48:40very simple,
48:41read the
48:42rule book.
48:43It's all
48:43there,
48:44what you can
48:44do and what
48:45you can't
48:45do is all
48:46there.
48:47Checkered flag
48:47is out on
48:48the session
48:48and there
48:48is the
48:49man,
48:49Michael
48:49Schumacher
48:50with that
48:501.14.7.
48:52Anthony Davidson
48:53second in the
48:54BAR Honda,
48:55then Rubens
48:55Barichello
48:55in the
48:56second Ferrari.
48:56He pulled
48:57out a
48:57quick lap.
48:57We just
48:58saw him
48:58start it,
48:59but they
48:59went off
49:00him to
49:00look at
49:00Schumacher,
49:01but Rubens
49:01pulled out
49:02a quick lap
49:02at the end.
49:03And the
49:03BARs of
49:04Button and
49:04Sato,
49:05sixth and
49:06sixth.
49:07Truly's
49:07Renault
49:07McLaren will
49:09be back.
49:15Welcome
49:15back.
49:16Thursday
49:16practice is
49:17now complete
49:17for the
49:18Grand Prix
49:18of Monaco.
49:20Let's take
49:20a look at
49:21the results.
49:22Topped by
49:23Michael Schumacher.
49:25Anthony
49:25Davidson there,
49:26the test
49:26driver for
49:27Honda,
49:27BAR Honda
49:28coming up
49:28second,
49:29Barichello
49:29in the
49:29second Ferrari
49:30just getting
49:31pipped on
49:31the last
49:31there.
49:32Truly,
49:32Raikkonen
49:32looking pretty
49:33happy there.
49:34Button and
49:34Sato and
49:34the two
49:35other BAR
49:35Hondas,
49:36then Zonta
49:36in the
49:37first,
49:37the Toyotas,
49:38Alonso and
49:39Montoya
49:39down there
49:40in tenth.
49:41Bridgestones
49:41in the
49:42one and
49:42three positions,
49:43all the
49:43other top
49:44ten cars,
49:45Michelin
49:45shot.
49:46Here come
49:46the rest
49:47of the
49:47Bridgestones.
49:48David
49:49Coulthard
49:49in 11th,
49:50followed by
49:50Ralph Schumacher
49:51had a quiet
49:51session and
49:52very few
49:52laps in the
49:53opening session
49:54this morning.
49:55So Ralph
49:56Schumacher
49:56either has a
49:57problem,
49:57but he did
49:58do 31 laps
49:59this afternoon,
49:59so he
49:59should have
50:00maybe he's
50:01got a
50:01problem or
50:01maybe he's
50:02just really
50:02really concentrating
50:03on that
50:03race setup.
50:04But Dane
50:05just here,
50:05you've got to
50:06absolutely
50:06got to
50:07qualify well
50:08here.
50:08It doesn't
50:08matter what
50:08your race
50:09setup is.
50:09Absolutely
50:10brutal Dane
50:11for the
50:11Jaguar team
50:12winding up
50:13in the
50:15final two
50:16positions along
50:17with Kline
50:18in 20th.
50:21This is
50:21Michael
50:22Schumacher
50:23at his
50:24very best.
50:26Absolutely
50:26incredible.
50:27Throwing it
50:27around over
50:28those
50:28chains at
50:29nearly a
50:29half a
50:30second
50:30quicker than
50:30anybody else.
50:31Well,
50:32that'll do
50:32it for our
