00:00This weekend is going to be cold, it is going to be windy, and above all else, it is going
00:18to be a weekend where your city is prepared.
00:20And the forecasts don't always get it right, but what is being predicted right now, whether
00:33it's a foot of snow or even a little bit more, would be one of the biggest snowfalls that
00:36our city has seen in years.
00:49Now as the storm nears, we're going to see thousands of DSNY collection trucks and agency
00:53partners transformed into the nation's largest snow fighting operation.
00:58This is an operation that I trust with every ounce of my being and being the ones that will
01:04deliver us the exact kind of city response we need to see this weekend.
01:19We are going to see more than 2,000 of those sanitation workers begin 12-hour shifts starting
01:25tomorrow evening.
01:27They will salt as soon as we see the first snowflakes hit the ground with 700 salt spreaders, and
01:32then as soon as we see two inches of snow accumulate, we're going to see 2,200 plows activate across
01:37the city.
01:38That by the way is likely to occur Sunday morning.
01:54While we are still waiting to make a final decision on whether school will be in-person
01:59or virtual, we will communicate that decision to families by noon on Sunday.
02:04That is going to be a decision between in-person learning and remote learning.
02:08I have to apologize to the students that were hoping for a different answer.
02:11For a traditional snow day, that will not be the case.
02:14We have enacted a code blue now in effect, which has been in effect since last night.
02:31This means that homeless services outreach workers have been and will continue to canvas
02:36the five boroughs so that we are connecting homeless New Yorkers with shelter and bringing
02:40them out of the cold.
02:41DHS is going to be bypassing the intake operation procedures just to ensure that we are getting
02:47people into these shelters as quickly as possible.
02:51...working through that and making sure those systems are ready to respond.
02:58Thank you all for everything that you are doing because it's the bulk of why we're...
03:07And finally, I want to encourage New Yorkers to do their parts to stay safe this weekend.
03:11That is why we are issuing a hazardous travel advisory for Sunday and for Monday.
03:17So if you need groceries, if you need a new winter code, if you need anything, frankly,
03:21that you are thinking about for this weekend, today is the day to make that trip.
03:26Because once the snow begins to fall, I want to encourage New Yorkers to do something that
03:30we don't often have the luxury of doing, which is to take a breath and stay home.
03:36Thank you, Mayor, and the MTA will be operational this weekend.
03:42Obviously, we have detailed plans in place for storms like this to protect the network,
03:48to protect our riders, and to protect our employees.
03:51We pre-position a ton of equipment and personnel.
03:55We have 220 miles of subway that is out of doors.
04:00I won't specify the lines.
04:02New Yorkers know what they are.
04:03We'll be focused on making sure that those continue to be operational with our snow fighting
04:08trains, with the de-icing systems.
04:11We'll have tow trucks ready for wherever they are needed.
04:15I will say that one thing that a number of New Yorkers have shared with me is we seem
04:35to have large snowstorms every 10 years.
04:37It was 96, it was 06, it was 16, it's 26.
04:41We're going to be ready.
04:45President's Yeshua 2.
04:55We got to arrive.
04:58What happened here?
05:00We'll be watching today.
