02:47A major milestone, Vern Schmidt turned 100 years old today.
02:51The Reedley native was amazed as people gathered at his retirement community in Northeast Fresno.
02:57Vern says he's proud to have served his country and offered advice for a long life, but the years have gone by in a blink.
03:05Yesterday I was 99 and all of a sudden I'm 100.
03:08I have a real great background that gives me excitement inside.
03:14Makes every day look like a brand new one, you know.
03:17So how can you beat that?
03:22You can't beat that, Vern.
03:24Well, you can read about Vern's journey from the valley to the battlefields of Europe in the book, A Hero and Advocate for All Others.
03:31He'll be taking part in a book signing event on Friday at 3 o'clock at the Clovis Veterans Memorial District's Community Heritage Center.
03:38All proceeds from that book benefit the Central Valley Honor Flight.
03:43Still serving at 100 years old.
03:45Impressive.
03:46Thank you, Vern, for your service and happy birthday.

04:18Oh, absolutely.
04:20I saw something about, like, a minus 50 somewhere.
04:22Where the heck was that?
04:23That would be quite a bit farther north.
04:24Yes.
04:25But, yeah, I mean, this is a big-time system for that part of the country.
04:28Okay, good to see some relief in our neck of the woods, right?
04:30We're good with that.

07:09Tonight's good news comes from the South Bay.
07:15A dog that managed to sniff his way into a tight spot is back above ground in Morgan Hill.
07:20Tonight, several police officers and firefighters managed to pull Zeus from deep inside an underground storm drain earlier today.
07:28Look at this.
07:29Cal Fire says Zeus wandered into a culvert on his owner's property.
07:34A fire captain had to squeeze into that pipe to get the dog out safely.
07:38Zeus apparently got curious.
07:39The owner says he'd never gone into the culvert before.
07:43Scan the QR code on your screen to share your good news with us so we can share it with everyone else.
07:47Glad Zeus is safe.
