Transcript
00:00I didn't cherry-pick. I didn't say, oh, I want to go to 140 and I want to fight a guy that's a tune-up fight or somebody that's going to get me ready for this challenge. I just went up to 140. I said, let me get the Ring Magazine champion. Let's fight that guy. Let's fight the guy that's the guy.
00:23All I'm more precious of don't mean nothing. As long as I'm locked in and I'm focused on what I'm supposed to be doing, nothing else matters around me. That four-weight world champion, it means everything to me. That's me separating myself. A lot of these guys that they claim is the guys nowadays, none of them can say that they are a four-weight world champion.
00:49Today is chest, triceps, a little bit of shadow boxing with some weights, keep the ligaments and everything loose. A little bit of forearms to finish it off.
01:07Nothing too intense like others. We don't need that. Later today, we're going to go boxing, but prior to that, we're going to go recover.
01:14I'm going to go see Dr. Dennis in Miami Lakes, head over there, go get readjusted.
01:21Every day is a learning experience. So when he's in there, he's just focused, you know, and when I see him focused, every time I know that he has somebody, I always tell him, you already figured him out.
01:36You know, that's like letting him know, have fun. From now on, just have fun.
01:41Inside the training camps, Shakur Stevenson sharpens precision and defense, drilling footwork and timing, while Teofimo Lopez builds explosiveness and power.
01:51Coaches fine-tuned game plans, sparring intensifies, and confidence grows.
01:55Right now we're boxing. Yep. We're original classic, reason why we're here type of boxing.
02:10Fat gap. Number jab. One, two.
02:16When it comes to it, like boxing is pretty much all mentality. It's all mental.
02:21Are you mentally prepared with the audience? Are you mentally going to be prepared with discern punch selection?
02:27There's things that I also got to train as well. There's things that I have to maintain as well.
02:32Those are things that I have to work on within myself. It's a muscle and it's a muscle memory that you have to create now.
02:40If you don't create now, it can harm you the day of.
02:43The grind, sacrifice, and mental warfare set the stage for a high-stakes clash.
02:48Fans await answers on Fight Night globally.
02:58I know he like to work off his jabs, so you handle that jab. You handle it coming forward.
03:07That's the first thing that you always want to do, man. Try to avoid that.
03:11Uh huh, uh huh, uh huh, uh huh. I love it. I love it. I love you. See it? See it? See it? Right at that chest. It's coming. It's coming.
03:27Shakur Stevenson enters camp as one of boxing's most technically gifted fighters.
03:32Known for his elite defense, sharp ring IQ and surgical precision.
03:36Stevenson's preparation is built on discipline and detail.
03:39His camp is calm, structured and deliberate.
03:42I don't, I don't feel like size when fights.
03:45I don't care who you is. If we get in a physical, little wrestling match, anything in there, you gonna feel me just as much as I feel you, so.
03:53Alright.
03:57Shakur's always been on the top level. All these guys have been looking up. So, you know, it's about time that they really find out where their place is. You know, they weren't looking up for nothing.
04:05You know, I really think, you know, he's at the turning point in his career. That's the reason why those guys that came in on the top level were always looking up to his level because he was the only one up there.
04:30All that more pressure stuff don't mean nothing. As long as I'm like locked in and I'm focused on what I'm supposed to be doing, nothing else matters around me.
04:46That four weight world champion, it means everything to me. That's me separating myself.
04:51A lot of these guys that they claim is the guys nowadays, none of them can say that they are a four weight world champion.
05:01Every session has a purpose. Every drill reinforces fundamentals. From the outside, it may not look dramatic, but inside the gym, Stevenson is engaged in a constant chess match, refining the small advantages that separate great fighters from good ones.
05:22We just got through sparring. We added a few, trying a few new, new little things, you know what I'm saying? But other than that, it's, it's basically the same thing we've been doing.
05:35We've changed the strategy, but no camp is never exactly the same. So yeah, it's just like always, like we may try a little bit of this, a little bit of that, but it's mainly the same things.
05:46One of the best things we have going for us when a person underestimates you. That's lovely. And that ain't the only thing he's underestimating. So we're good.
06:11Stevenson focuses heavily on defensive drills, slip ropes, mirror work, and controlled sparring sessions dominate the schedule. He works on distance management, angles, and timing, rehearsing how to neutralize aggression without absorbing unnecessary punishment.
06:41Are you a good for that right?
06:46I'm still working.
07:05Anything today that changed from like the coach's perspective you might say that?
07:09No, everything was good, everything was at one point, my coach did a good job and I was
07:15in return.
07:16Thanks man, appreciate your touching.
07:19Hey coach, what way you fight?
07:22147.
07:23147?
07:24Yeah.
07:26Yes, yes.
07:27I'll grab that guy.
07:29Long as a bitch, watch him.
07:45Sparring partners are carefully selected to mimic Teofimo Lopez's explosiveness and athleticism.
07:50Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:54Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:57Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:00Sparring partners are caref
08:04to mimic Teofimo Lopez's
08:06explosiveness and athleticism.
08:08Rather than chasing knockouts
08:10and sparring, Stevenson emphasizes
08:12clean execution, counter timing
08:14and exits after exchanges.
08:16Training with Shakur is amazing.
08:18A guy like me, been knowing Shakur
08:20for over 10 years now. The boxing
08:22world know that we brothers
08:24and we'll never fight each other.
08:26Just being around him and his camp, man,
08:28is nothing but positive energy
08:30and everybody wanted to be great.
08:32He's like my big brother, man.
08:34He is my big brother, honestly.
08:36You know, he got all the wisdom in the world,
08:38especially with the kind of defense.
08:40So he's just making sure I stay sharp
08:42on my defense and not getting hit.
08:44Across the country, Teofimo Lopez's
08:46He's just, he's always gotta,
08:48he's always gotta, he's always gotta
08:50be the way I was in the world.
08:52I beat Shakur and I say he went up weight class,
08:54he wasn't in his weight class.
08:56When I flatline him and they say,
08:58oh, he had to play the defense,
09:00that's just how it's gonna be.
09:02You gotta be okay with it.
09:04I ended up being okay with it.
09:06I'm gonna show everyone that his defense
09:08is not as immacrable like they say it is.
09:10That's my job.
09:12That's my job.
09:14My job is to show the true flaws that they can't see,
09:16that the world cannot see.
09:18My job is to show the world that can't nobody beat me.
09:22And I make it look pretty.
09:24You can do all this, all this, all this.
09:28Bro, you try to step this way, go night night.
09:32Go night night.
09:33What's gonna happen then when I beat Shakur?
09:35When you all gonna say that?
09:37You know what I mean?
09:38I believe in me.
09:39I believe in me before anybody else believed in me.
09:42According to Lopez, Stevenson is seeking a historic moment in the sport
09:46similar to what Crawford achieved with his big upset over Canelo.
09:49And that's part of why he agreed to move up and wait to face Lopez.
09:53Shakur is stepping up because he got nobody else to go after.
09:56He's stepping up to try to prove a point.
09:59You know, his big bro, AKA Terrence Bud Crawford,
10:02you know, put a huge upset and made a historical moment in time.
10:06I think those things like that make Shakur want to step up the plate,
10:10step up to the challenge and face Teofimo.
10:12Who is that?
10:13I mean, we were stable mates, me and Shakur, top rank.
10:16He talks about this and that and about I was jealous of him.
10:19No, I'm not.
10:21You were a 2016 USA silver medalist.
10:25You're gonna get your signing bonus and all that extra stuff.
10:29Thing was, they were trying to secure him in a different route
10:32because they had put a lot of money in him.
10:36Me, I think I was just supposed to be an opponent eventually.
10:41I'm possessively obsessed with this.
10:45That's why they call me crazy.
10:47It's alright.
10:48Lopez Sr. has boldly compared his son to Roy Jones Jr.,
10:52pointing to Teofimo's rare blend of speed, power, athleticism, and confidence.
10:57According to Lopez Sr., Teofimo possesses the same explosive unpredictability
11:01that made Jones a generational talent, able to win fights with reflexes, creativity, and raw instincts.
11:08He believes Teofimo's ability to strike from unorthodox angles, dominate exchanges,
11:13and rise to the moment separates him from his peers.
11:16The comparison is not just about highlights, but mentality.
11:19Like Jones, Lopez fights with supreme self-belief and fearlessness, trusting his athletic gifts,
11:24where others rely on structure.
11:26Lopez Sr. insists that when Teofimo is focused, motivated, and confident,
11:31he is nearly unbeatable and capable of redefining greatness in his era.
11:35It's not only mentality with us.
11:37We got style.
11:39We're faster.
11:40I mean, everything.
11:41I mean, we're entertaining there, man.
11:43You haven't seen a fighter like my son, I think, since Roy Jones Jr.,
11:47you know, doing all those tricks and stuff.
11:49You know, you don't see none of those guys doing that stuff.
11:52They try to be like you, and they can't be like you, bro.
11:55You gotta be born with that gift.
11:56I see, like, a chess match for his two rounds, and then my son will figure him out,
12:02you know, and just destroy him.
12:04Make him look stupid.
12:06That's what I see.
12:07You gotta push yourself.
12:09How you stay, how you remain on top.
12:11You gotta push yourself.
12:17I think the fight fans and everyone around the world of boxing should tune in on this,
12:22even if you're not just in combat alone.
12:25I think this is a great moment right now.
12:27The crowd's gonna go bazooka.
12:29As far as Newark and New York and all that, I mean, you got East Coast.
12:34Everyone's gonna be pulling up.
12:35I want West Coast to come out here too, man.
12:38You know, it's Brooklyn.
12:39Spread love.
12:40It's the Brooklyn way.
12:41Shakur Stevenson also shares that his drive comes from a deep competitive spirit, constantly
12:46seeking the toughest challenges in the sport.
12:48Watching Teofimo Lopez's previous performance, Stevenson was struck by his confident flashy
12:53style, which reminded him of a young Roy, inspiring a desire to test himself against such skill.
12:58He views this fight as a crucial opportunity to gauge his abilities against an elite opponent
13:03while adapting to a new set of strategies.
13:06Reflecting on his earlier fight against William Aida, Stevenson recognizes it was unconventional
13:11and demanding, yet it proved invaluable for his growth, showing he could thrive under pressure
13:16and adversity.
13:17But bro, what is it about you that has you, you know, looking at a fighter that you know
13:22is the truth and then saying, I want to fight him.
13:24It seems like it should be normal if you're a fighter, right?
13:26But that stuff is dying off in the game right now.
13:28And I feel like you wanted the last of the dying breed that actually want real challenges.
13:33Yeah, I'm competitive, bro.
13:34So it's like, I want to be the best.
13:37So when I see certain guys out there and I seen Teo his last fight, I was there front row
13:43and I'm like, damn, this dude is like, he's like a baby Roy.
13:48Like he's like doing things with his hands down, flashy.
13:51And I thought it was cool.
13:53So it kind of makes me want to get in the ring with him and see if he could do them things
13:57against my style.
13:58Your last fight was against William Zapata in July, and you fought a totally different
14:04way.
14:05It wasn't the easiest way or the best way to fight.
14:09But I think it was good for you and your development because it not only sent a message
14:13to the rest of the division.
14:14He learned that fighters who apply constant pressure are meant to challenge him.
14:18Yet he successfully managed that style, reinforcing his confidence.
14:22Now facing Lopez, Stevenson feels well prepared to handle the speed, power and unpredictability
14:28of a high level opponent.
14:29His focus, adaptability and accumulated experience give him confidence that he can navigate the
14:34fight intelligently, turning it into a comprehensive test of his skills, mental fortitude and readiness
14:40to compete at the sport's highest level.
14:43You know, your division at that time and the one above you, but it sent a message to the
14:46fans.
14:47But I think it also did something for you to prove to yourself that, man, listen, that
14:50wasn't like my best performance, but I showed you I can get it out the mud.
14:55What did that performance kind of do for you now that you look back at it?
14:58Honestly, I think like style wise, I think that Zepeda style is the style that's supposed
15:05to give me the most trouble.
15:07Like guys that box and give me time to think is the guys that's going to have a fit with
15:12me all night.
15:13But the guys who press me and put me in, put me against the ropes and throw a million punches.
15:19That's the style that's supposed to give me trouble.
15:21So I went out there and I prevailed against that style.
15:24And now I'm fighting against a boxer, which for me, it just makes it more fun.
15:30I don't have to deal with a guy that's trying to like wear me down so much.
15:36Right.
15:37Now I got to play chess.
15:38I got to do what I do best, play chess.
15:40Lopez's chiropractor explains that boxing places extreme stress on the body, especially
15:45the spine with constant bobbing, weaving and repetitive motion.
15:49The spinal discs can experience wear and tear leading to compression and fatigue.
15:53To counter this Lopez's team focuses on spinal decompression to relieve pressure and restore
15:59disc hydration, which helps maintain flexibility and reduce injury risk.
16:03This type of care isn't just about treating pain.
16:05It's about optimizing sports performance, ensuring Lopez's body can function at peak athletic
16:11potential through intense training cycles.
16:13At elite levels, even subtle improvements in mobility, recovery and structural health
16:18can make the difference between performing at a box office level or being physically limited
16:23in competition.
16:24So we're here at Dr. Dennis, we're in Miami Lakes.
16:29Really what I do here is just readjusting, realigning everything, all the ligaments, all
16:34of that health as well, so to speak.
16:36So right now we're about to go get crack.
16:38What's up, big dog?
16:39Good to see you, man.
16:40You ready to get tuned up?
16:42Yeah.
16:43Do it.
16:44When it comes to boxing specifically, there's bobbing and weaving and there's a lot of high
16:49repetition that starts to wear and tear at the spinal disc level.
16:52So what we're going to do is we're going to decompress the spine and make sure that we
16:55get hydration back into the disc.
16:57The things you got to go through to be a world champion.
17:07Yeah.
17:08Whew.
17:09It's really about sports performance and making sure that his body is able to express the
17:15highest athletic potential possible.
17:18Stevenson is not underestimating Lopez's boxing IQ.
17:22Lopez has shown he can fight patiently when needed, and Stevenson's camp appears prepared
17:26for that version as well.
17:28Some sparring partners are instructed to box cautiously, forcing Stevenson to take the
17:33initiative and break down a disciplined opponent.
17:35This dual preparation ensures Stevenson is ready whether Lopez comes out aggressive or
17:40chooses to counter and wait for mistakes.
17:42Everyone came along to help the camp out.
17:45You know, things are going pretty well.
17:47So far, we had an excellent camp going so far.
17:50And I think that, you know, Chakor is going to be in the greatest shape of his life for
17:54this fight.
17:55He gets better by the hour.
17:56So being that he gets better by the hour, soon he'll be invincible.
18:00So, you know, that's the way we're looking at.
18:03T.O. is probably the biggest opponent I fought, but I don't feel like sides win fights.
18:13I don't care who you is.
18:14If we get in a physical, little wrestling match or anything, get in there, you're going
18:19to feel me just as much as I feel you.
18:22Chakor has always been on the top level.
18:26All these guys have been looking up.
18:28So, you know, it's about time that they really find out where their place is, you know.
18:32They weren't looking up for nothing.
18:43Chakor Stevenson faces scrutiny over his fight with Teofimo Lopez, with some questioning his
18:49game plan and recent performances.
18:51Critics point out that his resume may not be as deep as some of his peers, particularly
18:55when compared to fighters like Gervonta Tank Davis, whose combination of size, speed, and
19:00punching power has impressed against elite competition.
19:03While Stevenson has been praised and highly regarded, many argue that his previous opponents,
19:08like Zapata, have not been top tier challenges, and victories over them don't carry the same
19:13weight.
19:14Stevenson's strategy in the ring often emphasizes defense and distance control, but there are
19:18concerns that against a powerful, fast fighter like Lopez, simply avoiding engagement could limit
19:23his effectiveness.
19:24Hoisting up Chakor Stevenson, his resume is not really that deep if we're really being fair.
19:32And I would challenge y'all to compare it to Gervonta Tank Davis's resume and then really like look at
19:40who they were, look at Tank's frame, look at Chakor's frame, and tell me what looks to be more special.
19:49But here you got Chakor being like hoisted up and praised nonstop.
19:54But then a lot of the same analysts, when they talk about Tank, they're like, oh, man,
20:00Tank's disappointing and Tank needs to fight someone and his resume is not that good.
20:04Who on Chakor's resume is just like this world beater?
20:09People always talk about, oh, Tank don't have Hall of Famers and don't have good fighters.
20:14Ryan Garcia is a dangerous fight.
20:17He has one of the best left hooks in the game.
20:19Some suggest Stevenson may try to run or maintain space rather than push the action,
20:24which could make the fight more about endurance and timing than outright offense.
20:29Ultimately, while Stevenson's skills and defensive mastery are undeniable,
20:33this matchup will test whether his approach can stand up against Lopez's explosiveness and raw power.
20:38The outcome remains uncertain, but the fight promises high intrigue.
20:42Even Chakor, he would probably be bigger than Chakor, but it would at least be closer.
20:46So for me, it is more impressive seeing the smaller guy like Tank produce that type of punch and power
20:52and being there with the giants and guys like Frank Martin.
20:56To me, I would rather have seen Chakor, Frank Martin, like they were supposed to fight,
21:01but it fell apart over money, then the fight was Zepeda.
21:05Especially, like I said, Zepeda coming off two performances where he arguably lost both, if not one of them,
21:12and was exposed and dropped in the fight.
21:14You know, Tio Fimo, I think that's a good name for Chakor Stevenson, but the fight hasn't happened yet.
21:19So we have to see what it is.
21:21But all this talk about like Zepeda being, who is that good?
21:25Robinson Casasio really should have lost to Oshaki Foster that rematch and then he did lose.
21:30He's cool.
21:31And he lost to Valdez before Chakor fought him.
21:34And Chakor missed weight for the fight.
21:37Max Kellerman points out that Chakor enters the fight with more to lose because of his technical reputation and undefeated image.
21:44Tio Fimo, on the other hand, has more to gain as an underdog where pressure is lower and opportunity is higher, making the fight dangerous and unpredictable.
21:52Where Chakor is fighting to protect that perfect record, to protect that kind of sense that he's the next guy.
21:59On the other hand, Tio is like, like he can fight with more abandon against Chakor because there's so much for him to gain.
22:08And if he loses, he's lost before, he's lost to Kambosis.
22:10Greg Hackett provides a thoughtful and measured prediction for the Chakor Stevenson versus Tio Fimo Lopez fight.
22:16While acknowledging Lopez's power and explosiveness, Hackett leans towards Stevenson winning by decision, citing his superior discipline, strategic approach, and ring intelligence.
22:26He emphasizes that Stevenson's ability to control distance, anticipate his opponent's movements, and adapt in real time gives him a clear advantage over fighters who rely primarily on aggression.
22:36Hackett points out that fights are often won as much by composure and timing as by brute force, and Stevenson excels in both areas.
22:44I think Chakor, yeah, my first mind tells me Chakor, and I thought about it, yeah, I'm picking Chakor by decision.
22:52But, but, because this is fighting, anything can happen, you can't count Tio out.
23:00So, there is thoughts sometimes that cross my brain, like, damn, what if Tio catches, like, you know what I mean?
23:07And hurting, or, or what if he just out hustling, you know what I'm saying?
23:11I mean, it's a lot of shit that crossed my mind, but I still like Chakor for the dub.
23:17I like Chakor for the dub because he knows how to win.
23:21Like, he knows how to win, you know what I'm saying?
23:23And he's always prepared to win, so, and I think, and I think Chakor respects Tio to the point where he gonna train like he's never trained before.
23:33Because this is a great fight for him. This is probably the best fight of his career up to date.
23:37Even though he's been in some great fights, this is probably the best opponent, you know what I mean?
23:41And Tio, same for Tio.
23:43He also notes that Stevenson's defensive skills and precise counterpunching allow him to avoid unnecessary risks while gradually wearing down opponents.
23:52For Hackett, the bout will showcase Stevenson's mastery of pacing and strategy, with his calm, calculated approach likely earning him a hard-fought decision victory over Lopez's raw power and explosiveness.
24:04When you put Magic and Bird together, shit happens, you know what I'm saying?
24:09And that's the kind of situation it is. Magic Johnson was nice, but Black Bird was nice.
24:14When you put them together, you get a nice game. I mean, so you put these two together, you get a nice fight.
24:19Is this one of the fights that we're gonna remember historically? Like, is this, uh, you know, it's 19, it's 19, uh,
24:29We're gonna win it, uh, Leonard and, um, Leonard and, uh, her first fight. Is this one of them?
24:36Yeah, she was like, 87 or some shit. Yeah. Is this 19?
24:39Like, 87 or something. No, no, it had to be earlier than that, right?
24:4384, maybe? Yeah, like, I don't know, cause he was in the, he was in the 76 Olympics.
24:49Well, no, no, 70. Was it a 78? No, they ain't fighting in 78. No, I'm saying 78 Olympics.
24:56Yeah, probably 78 or something. Do you believe Lopez's power and aggression make the difference?
