A road-crossing shadow is the dark shape formed on the road when a person, vehicle, tree, or object blocks sunlight or streetlight while crossing the road. As someone moves across the road, their shadow moves with them, stretching or shrinking depending on the position of the light source.

This shadow often appears long in the morning or evening and shorter at noon. At night, streetlights create sharp and clear shadows on the road surface. Road-crossing shadows can sometimes look confusing to drivers, especially in low light, fog, or rainy conditions, because they may appear like real obstacles.

Observing road-crossing shadows helps us understand light, movement, and safety, reminding drivers to stay alert and pedestrians to cross carefully.
