00:00Well, earlier I caught up with Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister in charge of economic development, Ewegan Osmochescu.
00:08We see the Republic of Moldova as part of Europe, an independent Europe,
00:13since we do align our policies and initiatives exactly to what the Commission is saying.
00:19Trade, deregulation, capital market, energy, we are completely aligned and on the same page.
00:26What would you change then to achieve that?
00:29First, this is the regulation. That's what we'll be doing during 2026.
00:34These are the easy rules for private sector. These are transparent rules.
00:39This is less burden on the private sector, which cascades at the end of the day on the benefits for the public,
00:46for the general public, for citizens.
00:48And it's not only about the foreign direct investments, it's about local investments.
00:51It's about local businesses. So predictable rules, transparent rules and law enforcement.
00:57And what kind of role might that mean for Moldova in the future?
01:01That's a really good question, since being a small country, but with a big heart,
01:08we have proven that being a small one, we are the crossroads of geopolitical interferences,
01:14geopolitical interests. We have to maneuver, and we do maneuver well.
01:19And those challenges are real, and they're there now. How do you deal with obstacles in all manners of way that actually,
01:29how does Moldova address them? How do you face that with that wider backdrop of what's happening in Iran,
01:35Greenland, Middle East, and so on, and Ukraine, of course?
01:39Well, certainly these obstacles are real, and we have the war next door.
01:42We have the post-pandemic era. And what we do as a small country, certainly it's not about volumes,
01:48it's about speed. So we are agile, we're resilient.
01:52And in terms of one of the examples, for instance, the cyber threats that we have faced during the last two years,
01:58during elections and referendum we have had. So it strengthened us, it strengthened us from the cyber security perspectives.
02:05With the help, with all the partners, member states, European Union, we did face the cyber threat, and we did it back up.
02:13So what we've done, basically, we've learned by doing, and we've done by learning,
02:18but we did stay as a shield, not only for ourselves, but for other countries as well.
