00:00The Eddie Murphy fronted Beverly Hills Cop is an icon of AE cinema, but if Sylvester
00:05Stallone had had his way, we would have gotten one hell of a different lemon twist.
00:09Before Murphy was attached to Beverly Hills Cop, the role of Axel Foley's was basically
00:14Stallone's.
00:15However, he wanted to rewrite the script.
00:17Stallone's draft of the film changed Foley's name to Axel Cabretti, toned down the humour
00:22massively, ramped up the action, and eventually led to him to part in the project two weeks
00:27prior to when filming was set to commence.
00:30As those familiar with the Cabretti name will have guessed, many of the ideas in Stallone's
00:34Beverly Hills Cop rewrite went on to feature in Cobra.
00:38Now Cobra is a wildly entertaining and somewhat deranged time, a complete vehicle for ego that
00:44has a bit where Sly eats pizza with some scissors, but it's not what Beverly Hills Cop should
00:49have been or eventually was.
00:51And hey, this way we ended up getting two 80s bangers, so Banana in the Tailpipe avoided
00:56as far as I'm concerned.
