Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have refused to testify in the U.S. House Oversight Committee’s investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, rejecting congressional subpoenas and calling the probe legally invalid and politically motivated. Committee Chair Rep. James Comer says he will move forward with contempt of Congress proceedings against the Clintons after Bill Clinton skipped a scheduled deposition and Hillary is also expected to decline testimony. The escalating standoff deepens political tensions and could lead to legal consequences if contempt charges are pursued.

00:00Most Americans want President Clinton to answer some questions is because he
00:05visited the White House, Jeffrey Epstein visited the White House 17 times while
00:11Bill Clinton was president.
00:12These were the questions that we were prepared to ask.
00:16We've communicated with President Clinton's legal team for months now,
00:21giving them opportunity after opportunity to come in, to give us a date.
00:26And they continue to delay, delay, delay to the point where we had no idea whether
00:31they're going to show up today or not.
00:33Well, I think everyone knows by now Bill Clinton did not show up.
00:37And I think it's important to note that this subpoena was voted on in a bipartisan
00:43manner by this committee.
00:44This wasn't something that I just issued as chairman of the committee.
00:49This was voted on by the entire committee in a unanimous vote of the House
00:53Oversight Committee to subpoena former President Clinton and former Secretary
00:58of State Hillary Clinton.
01:00Hillary Clinton's supposed to show up tomorrow.
01:01We'll see what happens there.
01:02But with respect to the former president, he did not show up today.
01:08One reason I think most Americans want President Clinton to answer some questions is because
01:15he visited the White House, Jeffrey Epstein visited the White House 17 times while Bill Clinton was president.
01:21I've been in Congress nine years.
01:24I think I've been to the White House nine times in nine years.
01:27Epstein was in the White House double the amount of time that I was under one president.
01:32And then we know that Bill Clinton flew on Epstein's plane somewhere around 27 times
01:39after the presidency.
01:41So no one's accusing Bill Clinton of anything, any wrongdoing.
01:44We just have questions.
01:45And that's why the Democrats voted along with Republicans to subpoena Bill Clinton.
01:50Not a single Democrat showed up today.
01:53Not a single Democrat.
01:54The ones that have press conferences on the Capitol steps and talk about how they're trying
01:59to get justice for the victims and all that.
02:01It just seems like they only care about questioning Republicans.
02:07And we've had, we've had a former Trump cabinet secretary, Acosta, in for a grilling.
02:13We had Bill Barr, former attorney general, in for a grilling.
02:18But for whatever reason, President Clinton didn't show up and the Democrats on the committee
02:23don't seem to have a problem.
02:25This is the amount of preparation that went into this deposition today.
02:30These were the questions that we were prepared to ask.
02:33We've communicated with President Clinton's legal team for months now, giving them opportunity
02:39after opportunity to come in, to give us a date.
02:44And they continue to delay, delay, delay to the point where we had no idea whether they're
02:49going to show up today or not.
02:50I think it's very disappointing.
02:52As a result of Bill Clinton not showing up for his lawful subpoena, which again was voted
02:58on unanimously by the committee in a bipartisan manner.
03:01We will move next week in the House Oversight Committee markup to hold former President
03:07Clinton in contempt of Congress.
