00:05processed, risking debt and poverty, MPs have warned. The Department for Work and
00:11Pensions aims to process 75% of new personal independence payment claims
00:17within 75 working days. However, last financial year just 51% were
00:23completed within that timeframe. A report from the Cross-Party Public
00:27Accounts Committee described the service as providing unacceptably poor service
00:32levels. The department said that by the end of October the average time to make a
00:36decision on a claim was 16 weeks. A spokesperson said claims were always
00:42processed as quickly as possible.
