00:20When we made the first Jurassic Park movie, I was aware that we were creating a character

00:26that was unusual in an action film. It was important to Steven and myself

00:31that Ellie was a feminist female action character.

00:43Dr. Ellie Sattler was such an iconic character and such an important character

00:48because she's a scientist and paleobotanist.

00:51It was really important to see an inspiring character like that as a young person.

00:58It felt really exciting that that became a takeaway for people who loved the film.

01:03She's badass and physically strong and complicated and funny.

01:08I would say that for all the female characters in this franchise.

01:12Stone Cold. I would not mess with her.

01:14I adore that there are so many female characters who are different

01:19because we're not all what would typically present as strong feminine

01:23or a superhero in classic adventure films.

01:27It's so important to have these female role models.

01:30Maisie as a character.

01:31Growing up with Claire as a mother who's like really strong and fiery.

01:36Ellie who's so intellectual and clever and really powerful.

01:39Dewanda's character, Kayla, who's a pilot and looks super fierce and tough.

01:44Still got it.

01:45It's been really amazing to work with such strong, independent women.

01:49I feel beyond honored to join this franchise.

01:53From inception, it's had great roles for women,

01:56but have a degree of character development and depth,

01:59and that's what I saw in Kayla.

02:03You want to ask questions or you want to ride?

02:05Jurassic is a very pro-female franchise.

02:10As it started, all the dinosaurs were female.

02:12They were women.

02:14And they're inherent in the idealization of that female strength, female power.

02:23I like saying woman inherits the earth.

02:26I really like that.

02:29Damn, that felt good.
