00:01The bin strike in Birmingham has moved into its second year, with union members saying
00:05they are determined to continue.
00:08The dispute began on the 6th of January last year, after rows between the City Council
00:13and Unite over-proposed changes to the service.
00:17The Council has now confirmed it will press ahead with a new collection regime in the
00:22summer – even if industrial action is ongoing.
00:26Striking workers say they regret the impact on residents, including missed recycling and
00:31garden waste, but insist the dispute should have been resolved months ago.
00:36The Council says talks have been conducted professionally in that it must avoid any settlement that worsens
00:41long-standing equal pay liabilities.
