00:00In Honduras, the Electoral Justice is reviewing appeals involving more than one million presidential votes and tens of thousands of municipal votes.
00:09This is a key process to define the legal certainty of the recent electoral process amid proven irregularities.
00:16Our correspondent, Karim Duarte, shares more details.
00:19The process of reviewing election appeals began this week in Honduras, with the Electoral Justice Tribunal, PJE, commencing the jurisdictional analysis of 97 appeals filed after the general elections.
00:38Today we begin to decide whether to admit it or not.
00:42The fact that a legal representative or candidate presents the appeal does not mean it is admitted.
00:49Through the plenarization composed of the three magistrates, we will make a decision based on the documentation.
00:59In the central district, groups linked to the Liberty and Refoundation Party have requested a recount and the inclusion of votes,
01:07alleging that there are approximately 100,000 votes distributed across more than 400 voting records,
01:13a petition promoted by candidate Jorge Aldana in his challenge before the TJE.
01:17Today we are asking respectfully, as we always do.
01:25We were outside the buildings for 30 days, sleeping in the street,
01:29asking in a peaceful but strong voice for them to count the votes,
01:33and they didn't because there was a huge pressure and manipulation from inside.
01:38I want to know who is behind this, who does not allow the counting of 100 and 1,000 votes.
01:45Today we continue to demand to this new electoral body, which is the Electoral Justice Court, the highest in the country.
01:53We are confident that a third decision will be taken.
01:57Otherwise, it would mean that pressures continue to affect the law.
02:00The TJE recognizes that there are inconsistencies in the statements issued by the National Electoral Council
02:10at the different levels of the process, which has led to a thorough review of files
02:15and a request for additional documentation from that body.
02:18We know that so far the results are neither transparent or verifiable.
02:27The National Electoral Council itself has indicated that there are 66 mayoral ties
02:33for which it cannot provide certainty about the results, as well as a number of candidacies for deputies.
02:39Consequently, the electoral system is in debt to the Honduran people and the candidates, and there is a common commitment.
02:47I believe that, to date, the three magistrates and the presiding magistrate,
02:52who is the one who originally initiated the process, have behaved in accordance with the law.
02:58The TJE confirmed that the first appeals rejected were those of former presidential candidate Salvador Nasralla,
03:05filed by his legal representative, as they did not follow the correct procedural channels.
03:11It reiterated that the court has until 2020 to resolve all challenges
03:16and emphasized that these rulings issued will be fine, definite and unappealable, in accordance with the electoral law.
