The short history of the long road—Danny Trejo
Transcript
00:00A girl who had been hungry for three days deliberately sat down at a table where someone
00:03had left their leftovers. She packed up the remaining food, preparing to take it with her.
00:07She glanced at her bill one more time and decided to sneak out without paying. But before she could
00:11reach the door, the cashier called her back. She had no choice but to return and take out the last
00:16of her savings. Ever since her father had passed away in an accident, Noah had been living in an
00:20old van. At night, she would look at the photos of her and her father, feeling the weight of her
00:24loaning even more. The little food she had left wasn't enough to satisfy her hunger. She tried
00:28to find odd jobs for repairs, just like her father used to, but no one paid attention
00:31to her. Her savings were almost gone. With no other options, she packed her things and set
00:36off again. She had heard that a nearby church offered free food on Sundays, so she hurried
00:40over. There, she met a kind old woman. After talking, the woman learned that Noah had nowhere
00:44to go and invited her to stay at her home. Noah, tired of wandering, gladly accepted.
00:48For the first time in a long while, she experienced the feeling of a home. The old woman's family
00:52had taken in many children, and everyone lived and studied in an orderly fashion. But Noah's
00:56behavior stood out. She would eat food in big gulps and hang her underwear on lampstands
01:00without a second thought. Finally, the old woman had enough.
01:03Are you out of your mind? Don't you ever do that again?
01:08Noah realized how out of place she was and decided to leave once more. She held the only
01:11photo she had of her mother and headed towards the city where she knew her mother was. But
01:15halfway there, her old car broke down and wouldn't start. She had no choice but to walk several
01:19miles to a nearby town to seek help. Fortunately, there was an auto repair shop in town. After hearing
01:24her story, the owner towed her car back. The car was so old that many parts needed to be
01:28replaced, and with other costs, it would be over $1,600. But Noah didn't have a single
01:33cent on her. Without the car, she would be stranded. Desperate, she asked the owner if she could
01:37work there to pay off the repair costs. But he refused, saying they didn't need any extra
01:41hands. Where should Noah go next?
01:43Unable to resist Noah's pleading, the man agreed to let her work off the cost of the car repairs.
01:48He gruffly informed her of her working hours and even allowed her to sleep in the loft above
01:51the workshop, since it had heating. Seeing the boss's tough exterior but kind heart, Noah was
01:55filled with gratitude. And so, Noah began her days of working to pay off her debt. She was diligent,
02:00always eager to take on the toughest tasks. Along the way, she also picked up quite a few
02:04skills in car repair. It was here that she made a new friend, Blue, who had grown up in a single
02:08parent household. With similar backgrounds, the two quickly became close friends, sharing everything
02:13with each other. When Blue learned that Noah was searching for her mother, she took her to the
02:16library. With her help, Noah quickly found her mother's detailed address. Around the same time,
02:21the boss informed her that her working hours had covered the cost of the repairs. So, she printed
02:25out her mother's address, said goodbye to her boss, and set off on her journey to find her mother.
02:29Finally, late at night, she arrived at her destination. Through the glass, she immediately
02:33recognized her mother. Noah was overwhelmed with emotion. She went inside, ordered a cup of coffee,
02:38and sat there quietly watching her mother, who had no idea that this was her daughter. As closing time
02:42approached, Noah still lacked the courage to reveal herself. She simply left a letter for her mother
02:47and walked out. But as soon as she stepped outside, her mother came running out and called out to her
02:51daughter. At that moment, Noah could no longer hold back her emotions and burst into tears in her
02:55mother's arms. Later, they sat in the old van left by Noah's father, talking. Her mother told her
02:59everything about the past. Noah learned about the difficult circumstances her parents had faced and
03:04the immense courage it took for her father to decide to raise her alone. Noah settled into her mother's
03:08home and decided to sell the old van to start a stable life and go to school. With her mother's help,
03:12the van sold for a good price. As she began to dream about a bright future, Noah gradually realized
03:17that there was still a sense of distance between her and her mother. Although her mother was willing
03:20to accept her, she only introduced Noah as her niece to others. Noah even discovered that her
03:25mother had never really liked children and was not prepared to be a mother. After some reflection,
03:29Noah made the decision to leave. She went to the used car market and bought back the very van she had
03:33just sold. When she returned home, she said goodbye to her mother, who seemed unsurprised, almost as if she
03:38had been relieved of a burden. So, Noah started the van and drove off into the unknown once again. This time,
03:42what had changed was her mindset, while what remained the same was the van left by her father. She no
03:47longer had any obsession with it. Her father's journey had come to an end, and the direction
03:50of her future was now entirely up to her to right.
