How To Repair A Pitch Mark

In this video, Neil Tappin offers some simple tips for how to repair pitch marks so they don't create blemishes on the green.

00:00Hello everyone, Neil Tappin here from Golf Monthly and welcome to this video in which we're going to

00:04take a look at how you repair a pitch mark correctly. Now we all want to play golf courses

00:09that are in perfect condition so we all need to do our part to keep the greens in good condition

00:14and to repair our pitch marks and there are ways of repairing pitch marks that will enable the

00:19blemish on the green to recover that much quicker and there are ways to repair them that will cause

00:23that blemish to continue longer into time so it's worth thinking about. Now the way in which you do

00:28not repair a pitch mark is as follows. So I've got a pitch mark in front of me, the ball's coming from

00:33this direction. The way in which you don't repair it is you don't put the pitch mark, repair it in

00:37and then pull back and lift up the middle of the pitch mark. That leaves you with that blemish that

00:42you're looking to avoid. Instead what you want to do is go to the sort of back of the pitch mark here

00:47and pull the grass in towards the middle. Do it sort of from the side, do it from all the way around,

00:53pull it in like so and then give it a good tap down and I think if you do it properly then you should end up

01:07with something like this. This is where that pitch mark was. Now you'd be struggling to see it at all.

01:11There's a small mark there but that should recover in half the time and it doesn't leave you with that big

01:17blemish on the green that can last for a very long time indeed. So when it comes to repairing pitch marks

01:22pull in from the from the back of the pitch mark towards the centre, pull the grass over the top

01:27and that should do the trick.
