00:00The workers are standing corn stalk bundles upright and putting them into holes they dug ahead of time.
00:05Then they push the red soil back in to hold the bundles tightly in place.
00:10A lot of people might wonder, what are they doing?
00:12They're actually preparing to plant yams.
00:15By burying the corn stalks in the pit, two things happen.
00:19First, as the stalks slowly rot, they turn into natural fertilizer, helping the yams grow bigger and healthier.
00:26Second, the stiff stalks create a straight path downward.
00:30Yams grow long and deep, so they follow the gaps between the stalks and grow straight without bending or breaking.
00:36When harvest time comes, the soil is loose and soft, and the yams don't snap easily.
00:42Workers just dig gently and pull them out whole. Super easy.
00:46This method also recycles old corn stalks, reduces waste, and saves money on chemical fertilizer.
00:52Practical, cheap, and really smart.
