07:09I'm from the UK and from Northumberland.
07:12And I'm supporting the Ella Dawson Foundation raising money for a charity looking after young people with cancer.
07:20It's been quite a journey so far.
07:25I don't really let myself think about anything else other than passage to passage, anchor to anchor, pontoon to pontoon.
07:36And I wouldn't really want to look much further forward than where I am now.
07:44The thought of finishing is too far out there for me, but it will be a hell of a day as and when I do finish.
07:51Hey, I'm Jasmine Harrison, also from the UK, from Yorkshire.
08:03And yeah, I don't really know what to say about this either.
08:06But a year ago was just like, it felt like yesterday, but also like 10 years ago.
08:12And yeah, I just want to take the opportunity after having discussions with people over the past few days,
08:19like how thankful I am to Don and Jane for actually allowing this to happen.
08:24Because like, I wouldn't have let myself go last December, to be honest.
08:29So therefore, like for them to allow me to just go was just and actually has changed my life.
08:36And it's all down on them to say yes or no.
08:39So like, for me, that's just like a massive thing.
08:41It's actually enabled everything to happen and to meet the most incredible people.
08:46Because like, yeah, it's a solo race.
08:49But now I'm like, right, we've got friends, we've got family for life.
08:52And all plans seem to now just involve all of you lot.
08:55And like, this is now just my life, which is brilliant.
09:00And I love my little boat, I love my space.
09:03And it's, yeah, a bit like what Dan said, it's changed me as a person.
09:08And I don't realise that until you kind of get put into normal life situations and then handle something differently.
09:14And I think that's really, it's really cool.
09:16So therefore, it's quite daunting thinking about going home.
09:19And like, what is going to happen?
09:22How am I going to, you know, do that and go evenly into a normal job and listen to people after having so much independence?
09:29So yeah, it's just mint and loved it and don't want it to be over, basically.

23:10Where his line of thinking is going
23:12And I think that really means
23:14That what we're doing now
23:15Just whets the appetite
23:17For more to come
23:18And where do you draw the line
23:19And decide that you're going to stop
23:21Because to my mind
23:22You never stop
23:24You just keep going
23:25For that next challenge

23:27I had 37 years in the Royal Navy
23:29My job was pretty much
23:31About preserving freedom of navigation
23:33On the global commons
23:34On the high seas
23:35And for me
23:37I cannot abide rules

23:40The beauty of setting sail
23:42To cross an ocean
23:43Is there are no limits
23:44And there are no rules
23:45Within reason
23:46And that's why it's important
23:49So dealing with loneliness
23:51Is not really an issue
23:52We have this extended family
23:54And we've heard about it
23:55The mini globe race team
23:57And I'm from a big family
23:58So I'm used to falling out
23:59With a few every now and again
24:00And I've managed to do that
24:01A little bit with this team
24:02And they tolerate us
24:04The way we are
24:05And long may that remain so
24:07But in terms of dealing with loneliness
24:10The advantage we have is
24:12The ocean is always changing
24:14The oceans we cross are always changing
24:16Last time I crossed the Indian Ocean
24:18I was commander of an aircraft carrier
24:19I was doing it at 26 to 28 knots
24:21Non-stop
24:22Going to deliver humanitarian aid
24:24To the Philippines
24:25And then come back in time
24:26For a belated Christmas
24:28And that was a routine practice
24:29When Don asked what we wanted
24:31To get out of the MGR
24:33I said that I wanted to know
24:35How big the world was
24:36And I still stand by that
24:38And because we break it down
24:39Like Adam described
24:40It's the next pontoon
24:42It's the next leg
24:43It's the next destination
24:44It's palatable
24:46But to be honest
24:47The world is a big place
24:49And it's a beautiful place
24:51And what this race has taught me
24:53Proximity to the surface of the ocean
24:55Is that we're not keeping our oceans
24:58In particularly good condition
24:59And so after this
25:02Ideally what I'd like to do
25:04First I've got a long list of paintings
25:05And sculptures in my mind
25:06I need to tackle
25:07And get on with
25:08I don't really feel I belong
25:10In any particular place
25:11Having left the Navy
25:11And my family's flown the nest
25:13So a foot in France
25:15A foot in Britain
25:16A foot in Vietnam
25:17Maybe even a foot here now
25:19The ocean's where I feel at home
25:21And so that's what I want to work on
25:22Is both continuing racing
25:24Looking for new challenges
25:26And not just racing
25:28Because the other thing I've learned
25:29Sailing around the world
25:30In the MGR
25:31Is there's a whole community
25:33Of global travellers and sailors
25:35And some of whom are here today
25:37And we've made really good friends
25:38Around the way
25:39And when you listen to their achievements
25:41And what they've done
25:42That too can be both humbling
25:44And inspiring
25:45So I want to do more and more of that
25:48I still want to see my family of course
25:50But I also want to devote
25:51Those years that remain
25:53Because the other thing we learn
25:54This is only a year since we left
25:56Is as you get older
25:57Every year passes quicker and quicker
25:59So the end is sort of
26:01Not too far over the horizon
26:03So I want to do as much as I can
26:05With my time
26:06To raise awareness
26:08Of the state of our oceans
26:09And to work with NGOs
26:11And to work about plastics
26:12Clean up in the oceans
26:13Try and lobby
26:15Many of the emerging countries
26:17Superpowers about
26:19How they take on
26:21Their responsibility and role
26:22And that's really linked
26:24To this rules-based enforcement
26:25Of the international right
26:27To freedom of navigation
26:28On the high seas
26:29And so there's a whole raft
26:30Of things to be done there
26:32And I just see this
26:33Having completed
26:34Hopefully
26:35The mini globe race
26:36In a few months' time
26:37It's just
26:38An important
26:39Pillar
