00:00Folks, I'm going to have to ask you to brace yourselves for a second because I'm going to say something entirely shocking
00:04that you may want to be sitting down for.
00:07We here at Trek Culture really want Legacy to be greenlit.
00:11I know, I know.
00:13Terrifying.
00:14Completely groundbreaking news.
00:17I'm Sean Ferric for Trek Culture and here are 10 reasons to greenlight Star Trek Legacy right now.
00:23Number 10.
00:23Centre seat.
00:24The journey of Seven of Nine from the child of inquisitive and frankly terrible parents to the captain of the flagship of the Federation
00:33is one of the longest and most impressive character arcs in all of Star Trek, up there with both Worf and Nog.
00:41The chance to continue her story and strike while the iron is still hot is way too tempting an opportunity to pass up.
00:48Her story has been developing since the fourth season of Star Trek Voyager, the very first episode, Scorpion Part 2.
00:55And almost 26 years later, the story is still unravelling as evidenced with her arrival in the first season of Picard
01:03where she is still very much searching for a purpose in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants.
01:07She settles in as the first officer of the Titan A but even that is not without its issues with her butting heads with Captain Liam Shaw.
01:15Now, with the death of Shaw and the reshuffle in Starfleet after the events of Frontier Day,
01:20she is fast-tracked to captaincy of the Enterprise G.
01:23This is a story that very much begs to be told because we've seen Seven in so many different variations throughout her career.
01:32But a captain is very much a version of Seven that I want to see, particularly one who has Raffi sitting on one side and Jack Crusher sitting on the other.
01:41In fact, it's part of this, those relationships, that would be so meaningful for people to see in Star Trek Legacy.
01:48Here is the outcast, the rebel, the hard-earned, when it comes to respect of others, hero of the journey,
01:57and those who might be able to both support and keep her balanced.
02:01It's a no-brainer for me.
02:03Number 9. What about the Klingons?
02:05Discovery certainly brought back the Klingons and remains to be seen what they will do with the Klingons in their fifth season.
02:11Several Klingons have passed through in Lower Decks and there was in fact a Klingon in Star Trek Prodigy.
02:16But for the most part, when it comes to the late 24th and early 25th century, the only real Klingon we've spent any time with is Worf.
02:25Star Trek Picard chose to omit the Empire, focusing instead on the Romulans for its first season and the Borg for effectively its entire run.
02:33What is the Empire up to? What do they look like at this point in history?
02:38The Empire will probably still be rebuilding after the devastation of the Dominion War.
02:42Whatever happened to Chancellor Martok? Why did Worf step away as Federation ambassador to Kronos?
02:48As it stands, we don't know what's happened to the Klingons and their absence is sorely noted.
02:54The arrival of Star Trek Legacy would leave the door open for guest performances from J.G. Hertzler and even Tony Todd.
03:00But as time goes on, these are questions that only get more and more stinging by the fact that we don't know the answer to them.
03:08Number 8. You want crossovers?
03:12One of the highlights and frankly biggest surprises of Strange New World's second season was the crossover with Star Trek Lower Decks.
03:20I admit to being very confused when I heard it was coming that there was going to be a crossover between a live action Star Trek and an animated Star Trek.
03:26And the fact that it was done so easily begs the request for more.
03:31In that episode, of course, we see Jack Quaid and Tony Newsome.
03:35And, you know, because we're greedy here, we're a bit sad we didn't get to see Eugene Cordero or Noelle Wells.
03:42It is unlikely as things stand that we would see the characters from Star Trek Prodigy appearing in live action.
03:49So that might, again, beg the question of could the Lower Decks characters in total cross over with Star Trek Legacy?
03:58I argue they can because, again, Star Trek has done it so well and quite recently.
04:02Plus, I really want to see Noelle Wells play Tendi in real life.
04:06Who doesn't want to see that?
04:07Number 7.
04:08Daystrom.
04:08You need more fingers than I have on my two hands to count all of the things that we could dive into of Picard's final season.
04:16But one of the biggest and most tantalising things it introduced was Daystrom Station,
04:22the Black Ops site where Section 31 housed the most dangerous artefacts that they've discovered.
04:28Not since some bloke wheeled the Ark of the Covenant into a warehouse have we been teased with such a goldmine of potential storylines.
04:37Theft of another Genesis device, if it has a paywall nor not, or attack by attack triples, it's all there for the taking.
04:46A deliberate inclusion of Picard's third season would perhaps set up what would be something people have been clamouring for for a long time,
04:54which is the return, pun intended, of Captain James T. Kirk.
04:59His body, after all, was recovered from Viridian 3 and is kept in storage on Daystrom Station.
05:04The description, Project Phoenix, was written on his coffin?
05:12Two?
05:14Icebox?
05:15Whatever you want to call it.
05:17So obviously someone's been having a crack at resurrection.
05:20There was an opportunity in the never produced fifth season of Enterprise that may have seen William Shatner return to the role.
05:26This is going to sound perhaps slightly insensitive.
05:28The clock is ticking on having William Shatner appear in Star Trek again.
05:34So if Legacy is greenlit, and if that is something that is going ahead, I feel that this would be a very nice inclusion in a first season.
05:42It could end up capping off Kirk's storyline in perhaps a more satisfactory fashion than Generations was able to,
05:49and also include perhaps the handing over of batons as well.
05:52It could be a slight stretch or far-fetched, but this is Star Trek.
05:57What isn't?
05:57Number six.
05:58Fleeting.
06:00How can this list not have a mention of starships?
06:02In fact, don't forget to check out our list of ten ships that need to be in Star Trek Legacy.
06:09Legacy has a fleet that's sitting there ready to go.
06:12Think about what we saw in Picard's second and third seasons.
06:15As part of the promotion of Picard, we got detailed breakdowns of all of the different vessels that were featured in Frontier Day.
06:23We had Excelsior class, we had Sovereign class, we had Odyssey class, we had Akira class, and we had a slew of vessels from Star Trek Online as well.
06:32For Legacy, you also have the options of, well, the Constitution 3 or the Neo-Constitution class, seems like a no-brainer,
06:38but also the scene-stealing USS Intrepid as well.
06:41There's also options from Star Trek Online like the Chimera class, or the Beautiful Pathfinder class as well.
06:47Audiences may even welcome back the Inquiry class, which, when there's not 150 million of them on screen, is actually not a bad design.
06:55And of course, whatever happened to that old Sovereign class, Enterprise E?
07:01That seems like something we should probably follow up on.
07:04Number five.
07:05It's cast itself, and the cast itself.
07:07If the name is any indication, Star Trek Legacy surely has to be about the people at its very core,
07:15both the crews that have gone before and the crews that are yet to come.
07:18This would seem like an even more prime opportunity to bring back returning faces.
07:24Picard did it very well in the third season.
07:27This is something that could be built upon in Star Trek Legacy.
07:29The fact that Picard producers were able to keep the return of such characters as Roel Arryn a secret
07:35proves that there still is things that can surprise us, even all these years later.
07:40What's Esri Dax up to?
07:42We know Janeway's looking after the crew of the Proto-Star in the early 2380s,
07:47but what's happening in the early 2400s?
07:50Has Bashir finally gone over to Section 31?
07:53Is Garak still ruling the Cardassian Union?
07:56Where the bloody hell is Captain Harry Kim?
07:58There is the risk that Star Trek Legacy could just become Easter egg after Easter egg after Easter egg,
08:03and that would only serve to hurt the show overall.
08:06So there would have to be a bit of restraint exercised when it came to just bringing people back.
08:12It's about how you use them.
08:14For example, a character like Barclay could come back because Barclay,
08:18who was instrumental in Project Pathfinder,
08:21might also now be instrumental in helping to rehabilitate Starfleet after the events of Frontier Day.
08:29Because if there's someone who knows about trying to figure themselves out,
08:34it's probably Barclay.
08:35Number four, The Return.
08:38The finale of Picard's third season left us with that stinger of a mid-credits scene
08:43in which Q appears to Jack's crusher and says he still has so much left to do.
08:49A recent interview with John DeLancey might suggest that, as it stands,
08:54this may only ever be a dream.
08:56But this, in fact, is such a wonderful way of using it as a jumping-off point for Legacy as well.
09:02Q has been one of the stalwarts of Star Trek since 1987,
09:06since his rather late addition to the script for Encounter at Farpoint.
09:10In that time, he's been a thorn in the side of Picard.
09:12He bothered Sisko once and went on to spend an awful lot of time on Voyager.
09:18Sure, Q died in Season 2 of Picard,
09:21but when has the Q ever been corporeal?
09:25And in fact, how many times has the Doctor died in Doctor Who?
09:28And it's alright, that was in the far future, it was in the past,
09:30or it was actually an alternate universe, it was this, it was that, it was that.
09:33This is sci-fi.
09:34What does death really mean?
09:36With that, would it not be hilariously fun to see a possibly earlier version of Q
09:42playing with a later version of our crew?
09:45There's always been that careful walk between imp, mischief, and menace within Q as a character,
09:53and is therefore a great foil for some of our crew as well.
09:57Now again, this will be a case of striking while the iron is hot,
10:00because the longer you leave it go, the less possible interest there might be in picking
10:05up this particular storyline again.
10:07Of course, there's a challenge with so many projects on the go, including Section 31 and
10:12Starfleet Academy, that things could end up getting pushed back and pushed back and pushed
10:16back, so we can only hope.
10:19This is something I think I'm happy to hope for.
10:21Number three, post-supernova.
10:23There is a literal goldmine of storytelling that can be mined from the Romulan supernova.
10:30What seems like an odd addition to the 2009 film has actually become an incredible way
10:37of building new stories around the Starfleet universe ever since.
10:41First season of Picard, of course, is entirely framed with the Romulan supernova.
10:46What caused it seems to be natural, but what causes came from it are very much unnatural.
10:52The impact of this goes right through up until the 32nd century, with the planet of Nivar
10:56existing in no small part because of the supernova.
11:00Symbolically, 2024 would be a great time to greenlight Star Trek Legacy and say,
11:04yep, we're going to deal with the supernova, because it'll be 15 years after it was first
11:07introduced in 2009.
11:09And excuse me while I just throw up a little bit in my mouth when I realised that was 15 years
11:13ago and I remember it like it was yesterday.
11:14But even with all of the discussion about the supernova and the Romulan free states that
11:19Picard in particular has done, we know next to nothing about what state the Empire is at
11:24at the moment.
11:25Where are they?
11:26Surely they can't still be on the artefact, as that's downed over Coppelius.
11:30So did they find other colonies to settle on?
11:33I would presume that yes.
11:34Yes, they did.
11:35And if they did, where are the Remans?
11:38Because presumably if Romulus was destroyed, I presume Remus must have been destroyed as well.
11:42So where are they?
11:44Did they get off the planet in time?
11:46They have space capability, as we saw in Star Trek Nemesis.
11:49So what's the deal?
11:51And of course, you knew I was going to say it.
11:53Another big question is, whatever happened to Selah?
11:56Now we've covered that so much on the channel that I'm not going to go too much into that
12:00now, but where are everyone's favourite bowl cut badasses?
12:05Number two, on demand.
12:07As with strange new worlds, the demand for Legacy is here now.
12:11Think of the fan outcry after the second season of Star Trek Discovery for there to be a spin-off
12:17series featuring the new, old crew of the USS Enterprise.
12:21And far sooner than, as the time has gone by between End of Picard and now, there was
12:28a confirmation that Stranger Worlds was happening.
12:30As Trekkies, we are a vocal bunch.
12:33Always have been.
12:33When it's been writing letters, or whether it's been getting to other conventions, or
12:37of course, in the modern age of social media.
12:39We let our feelings be known.
12:41Discovery, since its arrival in 2017, has been a constant source of conversation, if you will,
12:48even if perhaps it didn't click with as much of the audience as the producers may have hoped,
12:53which may, in fact, have led to its eventual cancellation.
12:57Lower Decks seems like a bit of an about-face here, as it's very much a gift to the fans.
13:02Picard helped to offer more time in the 24th and early 25th century, where Strange New Worlds
13:07was literally born from the cries of the audience.
13:11Legacy continues to be a huge source of conversation.
13:13It is often trending day by day, and you have showmakers like Terry Metallis and others like
13:19him who are chomping at the bit to be involved and to help make this a reality.
13:24So, we implore once again to Paramount, listen to your audience.
13:31The 25th century is too alluring to ignore.
13:35To quote a certain Senator Nonclos, there has never been a better time.
13:40Number one, easy money.
13:42Hey, legacy, if the producers would admit it, already exists.
13:47By that, we mean that the physical sets of the Enterprise-G already are there,
13:52and so are all the CGI assets as well that would have been built for Picard's third season.
13:57Some of them have actually existed since season two because of the Stargazer.
14:01They've proved resilient enough for two seasons worth of use and some minor redresses.
14:05In terms of setting up from the get-go, this has to be one of the less expensive shows to get going on.
14:10The bridge, corridors, sickbay, and a whole host of other sets, 18 in total, have been constructed.
14:17This means that the budget for the show could either be drastically lower or reallocated into other areas.
14:23For example, we still haven't seen main engineering aboard the Enterprise-G or a main shuttle bay.
14:27And of course, just think about how fantastic Star Trek, in particular, has been about repurposing sets.
14:33There may even be one or two that could be repurposed from Discovery.
14:36Now, while that bridge has been reused a few times, and of course, let us not forget the wonderful Federation HQ,
14:42which gets reused every Tuesday.
14:44There are a whole host of other locations, corridors, even planet sets that could be upgraded for the 25th century.
14:51It seems like all of the ingredients to make legacy happen are there, and all we need is for someone to go,
14:59Oh, they want legacy? Yeah, alright, we'll give them legacy then.
15:02Please.
