00:00Fantastic effort. I guess a couple of decisions.
00:04A couple. Possibly.
00:06For me, certainly there was the one that started the second half.
00:09Should have been a yellow for a year.
00:11And I had to look at your players, thought there was a foul.
00:14Yeah, there's no thought.
00:17Obviously, we've all seen it back.
00:21It's an awful thing when you played so well to come in and have to talk about officials affecting the game.
00:26But they clearly did.
00:26I think everyone in the stadium, everyone watching at home would have seen that.
00:30Such an easy game to referee, in my opinion.
00:33Such an easy decision for VR.
00:35I can't work out where football is with that sometimes.
00:38I'm a big fan of VR, but I can't work out how you can't get that right.
00:41Morgan Gibbs-White quite clearly gets pushed to the floor.
00:44The same player is then involved in blocking the ball, and he can't block it.
00:47As he jumps up, he goes through the bit of his body, which he would have blocked it with.
00:51Whichever way you look at it, it's a foul.
00:52And then they'll say, yeah, but the ball wasn't near him.
00:54And you go, okay, so the ball's not near the keeper, and you push the keeper to the floor.
00:57Is that going to be a foul then?
00:59And is that going to be, you know, because we all know it is.
01:02I can't work it out.
01:03And then they score from it, which is the double whammy.
01:07I mean, they're playing the first half, boots the ball away.
01:09I thought that was in the 80s when I was playing.
01:12You know, you boot the ball away, you get booked.
01:15Remember that?
01:16It was like swearing to the referee, booting the ball away, you get booked.
01:18He boots it into the crowd, and then dies on the floor injured, apparently.
01:22And we're going like, how's that?
01:24Nothing happened.
01:24And the same player brings Igor down in the second half.
01:27So it's an accident.
01:28You go, well, if that's an accident and he's running to a goal, then what happens?
01:31We all know what happens.
01:32He gets red carded.
01:33So why is it an accident and he's not yellow carded then?
01:36I just find it bizarre.
01:38I really do.
01:38And I think these are easy things to referee.
01:41I don't think that's a hardship as a referee.
01:43What's wrong with it?
01:44Just give him a second.
01:45Yellow, yellow, it's a yellow.
01:46That's it.
01:47Off you go.
01:47You know what I mean?
01:49I'm absolutely stunned.
01:51And I try not.
01:52I try and I'm a big fan of referees.
01:53I think they have a really hard job and they mostly do it really well.
01:56But I don't know how.
01:57You know, you get in trouble.
01:58And I'm like, why am I getting in trouble?
02:00How can I get in trouble?
02:02Just look at the footage and just go, yeah, okay.
02:04Bad one.
02:06I can't value it.
02:07Anyway, fathom it rather.
02:09Great, great pride in the team, though, today.
02:12Because you're playing a top side who are purring.
02:15We limited them down to, by their standards, low-level chances.
02:20And we created a couple of big moments ourselves,
02:23especially one in the first half, which, you know, early on,
02:25which was probably the chance of the game.
02:27We just couldn't get on the end of it.
02:29Great goal.
02:30Really, really pleased with the players on the counter.
02:33And so many good performances today.
02:35You know, so, you know, you come away,
02:36I'm just scratching my head out we didn't get a point.
02:39And unfortunately, I haven't to speak about other things
02:41other than two teams, just getting on with it.
02:44And I'm not questioning them, but I live in question of them.
02:46Great side, playing well, and a great manager.
02:49So there's no question I'm unseeing.
02:50No question at all.
02:51It's just on, I just couldn't believe what I was saying.
02:53So if you should, I'd be some further than all that one for me.
02:56I mean, I like the way that you put them under so much pressure on the ball.
03:02Anderson, you've been using that a lot.
03:04The game plan you had worked so well for most of the game.
03:08Yeah, I mean, two kind of semi-mistake goals, really.
03:12Good from their point of view, but, you know, we don't get distances right,
03:15which was rare for the first goal, but we know they're clever.
03:17We know that's how they play, and they time the room really well
03:19and good finish from their point of view, of course.
03:21But even that, you know, on another day, it hits the keeper's legs
03:24and it just squeezes through.
03:26And the second one's similar.
03:27You know, taking away the obvious, you know, how it gets through,
03:30it comes through two sets of legs.
03:32And you just think, you know, it's one of them days when that happens.
03:34But on the other hand, I mean, the performance level, I thought,
03:37was excellent from all involved.
03:38And the challenge, I've just said to them, I said, we've got to go again.
03:41You know, because when you're playing, you know, with all due respect,
03:44the division is a tough division, but they are one of the top sides,
03:47without a doubt, and they're showing that.
03:48So we've got to keep that level of performance against whoever we're playing
03:51and not come away from it.
03:53So that's the next challenge in that consistency of performance,
03:56which I've spoke about endlessly.
03:57But there's really good signs here in the way we've been playing,
04:00I think, and there certainly was today.
04:08Yeah, I mean, I was fortunate to get to know him reasonably well
04:12and his family a little bit as well.
04:14His fantastic wife has been super strong through a really tough period,
04:17obviously, for a while now, as his health was deteriorating.
04:20And just a great fellow.
04:22I mean, look, yeah, he's a footballer.
04:23I mean, he'd have been proud of that today.
04:24I know he would have, because he was brilliant at seeing through results.
04:27You know, when I was at Everton and stuff,
04:28and I'd see him for a coffee and a beer or whatever,
04:31he'd always look through it, you know, and go,
04:32no, no, I've seen what you're doing.
04:33You know, he's great at that,
04:35on an analytical sort of point of view and individual players.
04:39But also just as a bloke, he's funny, he was good to be around,
04:42he's good-humoured, sharp, loved his music, loved to sing along,
04:45you know, and just all them things,
04:47just an all-around great guy, I thought.
04:49So sad loss to me as someone who knows him somewhat as a friend,
04:54but a massive loss to Northern Forest Football Club, without a doubt.
04:56Sorry, what's the situation with Chris Wood?
04:59Yeah, he's had an operation, yeah.
05:01At the end of a period of trying to settle it down,
05:03which is unfortunate, but we had a lot of,
05:05obviously a lot of specialist opinion on trying to get it through
05:08sort of naturally, if you like.
05:09But they've decided that it's time to go and do it.
05:12So it's sort of a cartier version of a cartier job.
05:15We're not sure, it certainly won't be days, obviously.
05:17We're hoping for weeks.
05:18We'll have to wait and see how that settles.
05:19But the signs were good from the surgical point of view.
05:23Well, we'll see.
05:26I mean, I don't like throwing timescars about
05:28because of disruption on the way back to fitness.
05:30You know, it's never...
05:32We're hoping it's a smooth pathway.
05:33It sometimes isn't.
05:34So we'll just have to wait and see.
05:36It's a bit of a difficult week, Sean,
05:38with the job situation.
05:39You know, not an emotionally charged day to day.
05:42I think, in a way,
05:44it felt more of a celebration of someone.
05:46And I know different people want different things than that.
05:48And, you know, I'm not sure whether the family requests that.
05:52But it felt more of a celebration of a player.
05:55You know, I didn't sense that kind of dourness or anything.
05:58I think there's emotion and there's feeling.
06:00But in a kind of, you know,
06:02kind of an upbeat way for what he'd done.
06:04You know, he played, he played,
06:05as Brian Cloughby would say,
06:06but he played with a smile and he certainly did.
06:09And he was like that most of his time.
06:10Very dry, very funny, very witty.
06:13So, yeah, I mean,
06:14I think he'd have enjoyed the fact people were clapping.
06:16I respect minute silence as well,
06:18don't get me wrong, I'm not questioning that.
06:20But I think it was right on this occasion
06:22to clap, you know,
06:24rather than have a minute silence
06:25because he was that kind of fellow,
06:26you know, infectious with his personality.
06:29Sean, you might not have the goals for it in the league,
06:31but it's quite rare to see two centre-backs
06:34and Manchester rattle like they were quite a lot today.
06:37How encouraged...
06:38Well, you saw it,
06:39but apparently the officials didn't.
06:40But I don't know what happened there.
06:41Everyone else saw it,
06:42but I've never seen St. Reyes
06:45drag someone to the floor as much
06:47and get away with it
06:47that often in the Premier League.
06:49Yeah.
06:51I think he goes...
06:52No, he's doing well.
06:55Yeah, yeah.
06:55No, well, he's learning.
06:57You know, he's learning about the game.
06:58He's strong.
06:59He plays hard,
07:00but he plays fair.
07:01And, you know,
07:02adding the next step
07:03will be to get more goals,
07:04but he's in there.
07:05You know, he's hungry to get goals,
07:06but he's certainly shown
07:07what a good all-rounder he is.
07:09And now it's just adding goals,
07:10I think,
07:10which obviously that's not as easy as it sounds.
07:13But, you know,
07:14he had scored goals this season
07:15and I think he'll score more
07:16because he does get in the right areas
07:17and he's, you know,
07:18I haven't seen the hell far away,
07:20but, you know,
07:20the chance in the first time
07:21when Morgan crashed the box
07:23are very close to scoring there.
07:26And he's had a couple of chalked off,
07:27don't forget,
07:28one at Liverpool,
07:28everyone's still scratching their head
07:30out,
07:30that one was chalked off
07:31and still a bit different at Wolves.
07:33So, you know,
07:33he could have had another couple.
07:34But, no,
07:35he's learning well,
07:36I think,
07:36developing well.
07:37I think defending is a different art now.
07:46You know,
07:46in my day,
07:47you played against whoever
07:47and now it's more weighted
07:49in the favour of the,
07:51well,
07:52it wasn't today I didn't feel,
07:53that's why I was laughing.
07:54It should be,
07:55the way the rules are now,
07:56it's more weighted in favour
07:57of the attacker
07:57and the attacking play
07:58and the attacking style.
07:59That's why they bring up these rules,
08:01you know,
08:01more excite,
08:02more goals,
08:03more forward play.
08:04But today,
08:05that wasn't obviously the case.
08:06But, no,
08:08I think he's learning well.
08:09I'm enjoying what he's doing
08:10and if he can be a handful
08:13for defenders,
08:13then why not?
08:14You know,
08:14and that certainly looks easy.
08:15He's a strong lad,
08:17I know that,
08:17and he can certainly
08:18hold the ball up well.
08:20And he plays,
08:20he plays at that lovely measure,
08:22I think he plays competitively,
08:23but fair.
08:24I'm sure you've got to be missing Chris Wood,
08:26but his performances
08:27and his emergence
08:28make you...
08:29No,
08:29it's early for you.
08:30He's got to learn still.
08:31You know,
08:31he's still new to it all.
08:33But, no,
08:34Wood is a different idea.
08:35You know,
08:35Wood has got the depth of experience
08:36and the goals
08:37and the knowledge
08:38of the Premier League.
08:39He goes doing very well
08:40to fast track that,
08:41I think,
08:42and doing a good job of it.
08:43What have you seen in him
08:51and how has he responded
08:53to that fate
08:54as his first goal?
08:55Yeah,
08:55no,
08:55I think he's doing well.
08:56I think his positional sense
08:58is improving all the time,
08:59certainly the way
09:00that I want the team to work
09:01and I thought he did that
09:02very well today.
09:03He's an honest lad
09:04who will defend
09:04as well as attack.
09:05He can work off both feet
09:06and he's going along nicely
09:08at the minute.
09:09I thought both wide players
09:10did a shift today
09:11and not only
09:11without the ball,
09:12with the ball.
09:13We knew it would be important
09:14for us to,
09:14especially on counters,
09:15to work with width
09:16because they often dominate
09:17the pack,
09:18the midfield type zones.
09:20You know,
09:20it was Man City,
09:21the way they pop and probe.
09:22So we knew we'd have
09:23to work around that
09:24and I thought they did that
09:25well,
09:26both of them.
09:26So,
09:27yeah,
09:27I mean,
09:27Dylan just got a few minutes,
09:29you know,
09:29we'll see how he improves.
09:30He's obviously younger
09:31and not as experienced
09:32in the Premier League.
09:33At least Amara's had one season,
09:35albeit a tough season
09:36at Ipswich,
09:36but he's going along nicely
09:37at the moment.
09:38Is he somebody
09:38that's been able
09:39to handle that fee?
09:41I said when I got here,
09:44you know,
09:44a number of weeks ago
09:45when I think he come on
09:46at the Leeds game,
09:47I said,
09:47I haven't really done
09:49that much with him
09:49because I was believing
09:50in letting players go
09:51at first.
09:51You know,
09:51you don't want to keep
09:52over-coaching them
09:53and it's more a case
09:54of just offloading all that.
09:55The fees nowadays,
09:56you know,
09:57I said in the interview,
09:58I'll say it again
09:59because you obviously weren't there,
10:00I said,
10:00look,
10:00we could,
10:0115 years ago,
10:02we could have all sat there
10:03and had a list of players
10:03and we could have all
10:04roughly the same fee level
10:06for a player.
10:08It doesn't happen anymore.
10:08Now it's just pay it
10:09or don't pay it.
10:10So I told him that story
10:11and I said,
10:12look,
10:12let me do you the fee.
10:13I said,
10:13just enjoy your football.
10:15Just come and work hard
10:15and enjoy your football
10:16and I think he's shown
10:17signs of that
10:17and some very strong signs
10:20and there was
10:20some very strong signs
10:21and a very calm finish.
10:22Good play to be fair
10:23and a good ball
10:24from Igor as well
10:26but a very calm finish.
10:28Thank you very much.
10:29Thanks everyone.
10:30Cheers.
10:31Cheers.
10:31Cheers.
10:59Cheers.
